I've got your back

The moment I was introduced as Richie's girlfriend, look on their faces changed from curiosity to one of shock and horror. I swear to y'all, their eyes looked like it was seconds away from popping out of their sockets. I smirked at them and waved. And what the hell is up with those names?

I heard Harmony snickering beside me and I know she was wondering the same thing as me. White people be naming them kids some weird ass names.

The tall blonde girl stepped forward, looking from Richie to me. A look of utter disbelief on her face. She was actually quite beautiful, they all were. Seems like good looks ran in their family, because as evil as Richie mother is, she is a very attractive woman.

"You're kidding, right? This is another one of your jokes, right?

When Richie didn't laugh or answer her she stepped back like she was hit with something. Her eyes got stormy and filled with rage. Her death glare was casted on me and I held my own. If little bitch wanted to fight I would gladly kick her ass. I ain't ashamed to give her an ass whooping.

"How could you Oswaldo? Lisa is my best friend, you two were together for a long time. You love her and she loves you. Does she even know that you've moved on, with her?"

She brought her hands up to cover her mouth and cried softly.

"Lisa must be so heartbroken, I've got to call her to make sure she's ok."

She turned away from us, dug into her pink purse and retrieved a mobile phone. I didn't listen to what she was saying because suddenly the room erupted. There were shouting and yelling followed by screaming and crying. I swear it was like and episode of the Kardashian. All this drama because Richie and I are together.

Harmony and I looked at each other and we backed away into the kitchen. I walked over to the cupboard and grabbed a glass, turning the tap on, I filled it with water and took a big gulp. Harmony was standing over by the door looking at me. I grabbed on to the sink of support and closed my eyes. I was tired of all the bullshit.

"I swear my life is like some reality T.V bullshit. I went from being the poor black girl that nobody liked, to the poor black girl that's dating the rich white guy that nobody likes."

I really didn't think I could deal with any more drama. I knew having a relationship was hard, but having to fight someone new every day just to prove that you have the right to love whoever you choose, is harder that you might think. I love Richie, there is just no me without him, but will we still come out strong when the fight is over? But more importantly, will the fight ever be over?

"Is this the shit you have to deal with?" Harmony asked.

I nodded then buried my face in my hands. I could still hear them on the other side of the door arguing. I just didn't get why they couldn't just leave us alone. We weren't hurting anyone, we just wanted to be able to love each other in peace. I ain't a weak person, but as my mama always says, constant banging always breaks away. I was getting tired of fighting, I was tempted to take the easy way out but I knew Richie would never let me. He keeps he grounded and focus that's one of the reasons I love him.

I felt Harmony arms around me and I turned and rested my head on her shoulders. I sighed deeply and let her comfort me. She rested her head against mine and squeezed my shoulders.

"Remember that time when you were fourteen and Bobby Hallway was hitting on me and I didn't like it."

I laughed slightly and she continued.

"Remember what you said to him? You told him that if he didn't get his diseased hands off of me, you were going to kick his fat ass until he loses 20 pounds."

I laughed harder remembering how scared Bobby was. He avoided us for months. He was a fat seventeen-year-old kid, with more mouth than balls.

Harmony continued. "He got up in your face thinking you were joking then you kicked him in the jewels and he went down crying like a baby. I think you traumatised him, he wasn't able to walk straight for a week."

"Although you are three year younger than me you always had my back Deedee and now it's my turn to have yours."

She turned me to face her. "I'm not going to let them break you. You are one of the strongest persons I know and you don't take bullshit from anybody, so don't start now. I've got your back just like you've always had mine, you hear me?"

I nodded my head, tears falling from my eyes. She wiped it away and turned me back around to face the door.

"Now, let go out there and show them that you're here to stay. You're gonna fight for what's yours and that white boy is yours."

I laughed as we walked back out into the room. Richie saw me, frowning when he saw the tears in my eyes. He came over to me, concern deep in his green eyes.

"Mel, are you ok?"

I nodded my head and he brought his lips to mine. It was a short kiss but in that one kiss I knew he was telling me that he was going to fight for us. If he wasn't going to give then neither was I.

He took my hand into his and turned to face his family again. I was still getting hateful looks from them, but I didn't care. I loved Richie and if they couldn't handle us being together then they could all go to hell.

"Either you guy threat Melody with the respect she deserves or you can all get the hell up outta our house."

They were all standing there silent, looking at each other. Richie broke away from me and went to the still open door to retrieve their bags. As much as I wanted to object to them staying with us I couldn't, because I had my cousin there I couldn't very well tell him not to let his stay.

Harmony went over to help Richie. I stayed my black right where I was, no way was I bringing any of their shit in. Harmony grabbed one of the bags and was about to bring it into the house when Crawford snatched it out of her hands, making her fall to the ground in the process.

"Get your filthy hands off my stuff."

I gasped and Richie pushed his cousin away. But that wasn't the reason I gasped. Just as Harmony fell, the guy she left with at the club stepped up to the door. His murderous gaze was focused on Crawford, but he bend to pick Harmony up. His hand went around her waist protectively, pulling her to him.

"I don't take too kindly to people touching what is mine."

It was said in a deadly calm and even voice. He shifted slightly and I saw the gun in his waist band. I don't think anyone else saw it, they were all to focus on his handsome face. I looked at my cousin but she never looked my way. What the hell has she gotten herself into?

"Connor."

Harmony said, stilling the hand that was reaching for his gun. He looked down at her and the look in his eyes changed from murder to utter love. He smoothed the hair away from her face and smiled.

"You ok, Princess? Or do I have to kill somebody?"

He cast that murderous look back at Crawford, who took a step back with fear in his eyes. Richie however, was smirking. Harmony nodded her head and he kissed her hair, accepting that she was ok.

Connor turned to Richie and held out his hand.

"Richards, I see you took my advice and found yourself a woman worth keeping."

Richie laughed and shook his hand. "And I see that you took mine and did the same."

Harmony and I looked at each other dumbfounded. I was completely lost. Shit was just all over the place, I felt like Alice in wonderland. I arrived late to the tea party so I missed something vital.

"You two know each other?" Harmony asked.

Connor nodded. "That a story for another time, right now I'm here to take you and your cousin to lunch like I promised."

I was tried to being in the dark, so I took a step forward and asked.

"Somebody better tell me what the hell is going on before I kill somebody. Staring with you."

I pointed to my boyfriend. Connor laughed and said something I didn't hear. I turned my heated gaze on him. Daring him to say one mo thing. He help up his hands in surrender then I turned back to Richie.

"Start talking or shits about to go down."
