Melody’s P.V.O
“Would y’all two stop fighting?! It’s all y’all ever do. Ugh!”
I am sick of this. All day, every day that’s all my parents ever do, fight. If they hated each other so much, then why not just get a divorce? Why subject the entire street to their constant ranting. It’s embarrassing.
Everyone can see that the love has left their marriage years ago. Heck, I can’t even remember the last time they said something nice to each other. Living with them is becoming harder every day. They stopped caring about each other as well as me. It’s like they forgot that I exist, and on the off chance that they do remember, they would try and acted like parents.
How do they expect me to respect them if they behave like crappy parents? Sometime I wonder why they ever got married in the first place. How can two people who once loved each other enough to tie the knot, now can’t stand to be in the same room with each other.
I grab my coat and my house keys and head for the door. There is no way I’m staying in this house just to watch them curse each other out.
“I’m leaving, I’ll be back later. But it’s not like y’all care anyway.”
As I’m walking out the door I hear my mother shouting. “Melody Gibbs get yo black ass back in this house, it’s after midnight!”
*Bang!*
That’s the door. Like hell I’m staying in that house. I’m only 3 minutes out the door, and my crazy ass mother comes running out the door. Shouting, waking up the entire neighbourhood. Can this woman be any more embarrassing?
“I said get back in her young lady! I’m your mother, you have to listen to me.”
Ignoring her I keep on walking. I see a few of the neighbours light coming on in their windows. I curse, pulling the hood of my coat over my head. It’s not like it’s going to help. Everyone knows me as the crazy black lady’s kid anyway.
I always hear people talking and whispering about me, when the think I’m not listening. There goes the crazy Nancy’s kids. Look at what she’s wearing, isn’t that the same clothes she had on yesterday or the day before that? Why did her dad, a white man from a rich family, threw it all away for a poor black woman?
When I was younger the talks used to hurt a lot, but now I just ignore them. These people think they know me, but they don’t know shit about me or my crazy family. I must agree with them on one thing though. Why the hell did my dad, gave up all of his family money to marry my mom. They live worse than cats and dogs.
Halfway down the street and I could still here my mother shouting after me. I grab my IPod out of my pocket, unwrap my headphones and stick them into my ears. I just keep on walking. I am not too sure where I am going, but I don’t care as long as it’s far from my house.
I’m not sure how long I’ve been walking. Or how far I’ve walked. I check my watch and curse.
“Shit.”
I’ve been walking for two hours. I turn around to make the long journey back home. My headphones are still in my ears, so I didn’t know someone behind me until they touch my shoulder. Turning around, I was ready to kick a nigga’s ass. Don’t be thinking I’m helpless, just cause I’m walking by myself.
Only it isn’t some stupid ass nigga. Instead it’s a stupid ass white boy. Don’t this fool know he shouldn’t be cruising in a neighbourhood like this, at this time of night?
“Boy is you crazy? Is yo stupid white ass looking to get jacked?”
I frown at him, looking at him expectantly. However, he just stands there staring. Why the ass is this fool staring?
“Boy, is yo ass dumb? Did you not hear me?”
I snap my fingers in his face and he smile. I don’t have time for this shit. I have school in a few hours and I still haven’t done my history homework. I know I’m gonna get detention, but I just don’t give a shit. I’m not stupid, if that’s what you’re thinking. I just don’t see the point in doing history, when I’m never gonna use it.
I’m leaving this crazy ass white boy on his own and I’m going home. Rolling my eyes at him, I turn and start walking away. I hear footsteps behind me and I turn around. Is the fool really following me? Am I gonna have to beat his ass?
“Why the hell are you following me? Are you lost? Look I don’t take in strays, and even if I did you’d never wanna live in my house, trust me.”
I know you’re probably thinking I should be scared, but I’m not. My last three boyfriends were street fighters. It’s a shame they had to find out about each other. I really did had a good thing going. And before you start calling me a hoe. No, you sick minded creeps, I did not give up the cookie. I made lots of promises, but I held on to the good stuff. What kinda girl do you think I am?
“No I’m not dumb, I was just wondering if you needed a lift. It’s pretty late and you’re walking all by yourself.”
I roll my eyes. “No shit Sherlock, did you figure that out all by yourself.”
I know I’m being a bitch, but I don’t care. I only have a few more hours before school and two of those I have to spend walking back home and he’s wasting my time.
He looked at me amused. “Are you always this friendly?” The sarcasm in his voice irritates me.
I bat my eye lids and smile sweetly at him. “Only when I met strangers a few hours before sun rise. So I guess today is your lucky day. Yay you!”
Turning I keep on walking. I don’t look back, but I couldn’t hear footsteps behind me either. I exhale and put my headphones back into my ears. I turn, upon hearing a beep.
Lo and behold, the fool decided to follow me in his car. Great! Just great. By the way, where the hell did he come from? And that is one fine ass car. This kid must be rich, cause I ain’t never see a car that fine driving in this neighbourhood before.
“Why the hell are you still following? If you looking to buy weed, you’ve got the wrong girl, green eyes.”
He chuckled. But damn that was sexy. Now I’m looking at him good, for a white boy he ain’t too bad looking.
He leans out his car window and smile at me. “I’m definitely not looking to buy weed, as I said before I just wanted to offer you a lift.”
He did? My bad, I guess I wasn’t paying attention. That is very sweet of him. I guess I was a little hard on him before. I can be that way sometimes. It’s one of my many bad habits that I have to break, but just haven’t gotten around to them as yet.
I return his smile, but then I frown. My mood swings are what makes me, me.
“Are you crazy? You can’t go driving around offering lifts to any which body. Do you know what could happen to you if you pick up some crazy ass person, who would wanna slit your throat and use your blood for voodoo rituals?”
He holds up his hands in surrender. A smirk playing across his handsome face. Wow, but damn this dude’s hot. For a white boy I mean. His brown hair is cut in spikes and his green eyes are just glowing. Who is this dude?
“I don’t go around offering lifts to anybody, just you. Now are you gonna get in the car, I’d like to go home I have school in a few hours.”
I am going to get in the car? Hell yeah I am! Why should I walk, when I could be getting a lift? This means I can have about two hours sleep before I have to wake up again for school. School ugh! I hate that place, but anywhere is better than home.
I walk around to the passenger side of the car and got in. I almost sighed out loud, when my ass touches the seat. So, so soft. He started the car and drove off. I’m sitting in this car, with some strange guy I don’t even know. I didn’t even ask the guy his name. Who’s the stupid one now?
“So what’s your name green eyes? And what are you doing in my neighbourhood?”
I twist myself in the seat to look at him. Even his side profile is nice. He looks at me once then turns his eyes back to the road.
“Actually they’re jade not green and my name is Oswaldo Richards. Where do you live?”
looking at him I started laughing. “Oswaldo? That’s your real name, Oswaldo? Who the hell named you that?”
I laughed and laughed. Only a white person would name a child Oswaldo. Boy do I feel sorry for him. I looked up at him and saw him frowning and I bit my laugh in, feeling a bit bad for laughing at his name.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to laugh at your name, Oswaldo.” Yes I did.
“Yes you did. Now that you’ve had your laugh on my behalf, can you please tell me where you live?”
I frown at him. “Why do you wanna know where I live?”
“So I can drop you home. What’s your name by the way?” Oh, right. That’s why I’m in his car.
“Right, I forgot. And my name is Melody Gibbs.”
I give him directions to my house and we drive the rest of the way in silence. It’s not that I don’t wanna talk, I am just preparing myself to deal with my parents. My mother’s bound to be mad at me for not listening to her. And my dad going to get mad at my mother just for existing.
We are almost at my house. “Stop the car here please.” I don’t want my parents to see a boy dropping me home. My mother would freak. Not because he’s a boy but because he’s a white boy. According to my mother white men are good for nothing. I’ve never dated a white guy before so I wouldn’t know.
Oswaldo stops the car and I get out. “Thanks for the ride, green eyes. I hope I never have to see you around here again.”
Turning I walked away. Ok so this is it. All I have to do is go in, run straight to my bedroom and lock the door. I should be asleep before my mot…
What the… I mean OMG! Am I in heaven? If this is heaven I don’t even wanna leave. Is that my toes I feel curling? Yes, yes it is. Damn but this boy is a good kisser. Wait a minute! Why is this guy kissing me? Forget that, why am I kissing him back, and liking it?
I pushed on his chest and shoved him away. “What the hell is wrong with you? Do you kiss every strange girl you meet?” This boy must be looking for a beating. It doesn’t matter that I enjoyed it. You just don’t do shit like that.
“No,” he smirked, “Just you.”
He turns and walks back to his car, driving away leaving me standing confused.
“Hey, get back here and tell me why you kissed me!” I shout after him. “Oswaldo, Oswaldo!!!”
