Coma girl
Oswaldo's P.O.V
If there's one thing I hate doing, it's waiting, and I've been doing that for almost a year, and still Melody hasn't opened her eyes. To say that I was pissed off would be an understatement. I needed her to open her eyes and come back to me and our daughter. I missed her so much.
I was on my way back to Melody's room when I saw someone slipped in. I was too far away and too tired to get a good look at the person. I figured it was one of her family so I took my time walking back. I sip some of my coffee but cursed when the steaming hot brew burnt my lips. Coffee has become my main food supplement, I've been living off of the stuff. I had to keep awake, both of my girls needed me to stay alert.
I greeted a few of the nurses as I passed their station. Some of them thinks that it's very admirable of me to keep coming to the hospital even after so long, and others think I should just move on and carry on living my life. But what they don't know is that my life was in that hospital, lying on that bed. There was no carrying on without her.
When I got to the room I almost spilled my coffee. I knew that Max visited Melody, but he always does it when I'm not around. So, when I saw him in the room I almost lost my cool. I was still mad at the dickhead for kissing and trying to steal my girl away from me. But, I knew that causing a scene would only get us both thrown out.
He was sitting next to Melody's bed holding her hand. As I moved more into the room, he looked up and saw me. I saw a wave of emotions pass over his face, the same emotions I felt every time I looked at her. I was still very much pissed off with him, but I decided to be civil.
"Do you want to see Megan?"
He looked shocked at the offer, but he shook it off and nodded his head. I nodded back and walked out of the room, I didn't wait to see if he was following me. As I approached the nursery, I heard Max behind me. When we got to the nursery I greeted the nurse and walked over to Megan's crib. I smiled when I saw her, because she was wide awake and looking around. They said that she won't be able to recognise me for a while, but I didn't know if I believed that, because her eyes landed on me as I neared the crib.
I carefully scooped her up in my arms and rocked her from side to side.
"Hey there, beautiful, I brought someone to see you."
I turned her in my arms, carefully supporting her head so that Max could see her. He looked a little out of sort like he didn't know whether he should run or stay. I decided to make things a little easier for him.
"If you sit in one of those chairs over there..."
I pointed to the row of chairs in the corner of the room.
"...I'll bring her over and show you how to hold her."
He looked a bit unsure but then he walked over to the chair and took a seat. I followed him over and carefully placed Megan in his arms. I showed him how to support her head then took a seat not too far away. I watched as he smiled down at her and talked to her, telling her about Melody.
He suddenly looked up and apologised.
"I'm sorry bro... I shouldn't have kissed Melo, I just...she makes me feel things and I sometimes can't control myself when I'm around her, but that still doesn't excuse what I've done."
Was this fool really expecting me to feel sorry for him? Because if he was then he'd be waiting a hell of a long time.
"Is that supposed to make it better, you kiss my girlfriend twice and you tried to steal her from me. What's to make me believe that you wouldn't try to take her away from me when she wakes up? As you said, you can't control yourself when you're around her."
I looked at him pointedly and waited for an answer. He looked confused for a moment then Megan made a sound and he turned his attention back to her. I saw him smile and I knew that she was capturing his heart the same way she captured mine.
"I ain't that heartless to try and break up yo family. This little angle right here needs both her parents."
He turned back to face me and I saw sadness and longing in his eyes.
"Besides, I was an idiot to think that Melo would love me back. Since the moment I first met her, I knew that she loved you, but I was unwilling to believe it."
I sat there not saying anything, I didn't even put him out of his misery by telling that she did love him, but she loved me more. I got up and took Megan from him. I was done talking to him, we weren't friends and we weren't going to ever be friends again.
He handed her back to me without complaining, he could see that the conversation was over.
"You might want to say goodbye to Mel before you leave."
I said to him as he was about to walk out of the nursery. As his hand reached the door, I called after him and he turned slightly to face me.
"This doesn't make us friends and don't for one minute think because you give me some half ass apology that I'll put all that you did behind me and let bygones be bygones. You tried to take away the only girl that I love and will ever love, that's something I can't easily forgive. Heck! I'm not even sure that I'll ever be able to move past it."
He nodded his head and left the room. I sat quietly with Megan for a moment before a sound to the far corner of the room captured my attention. I turned my head, curiously, only to see Isabelle sitting in the corner looking guilty. She was so hidden away it's no wonder I didn't see her when Max and I came in. I didn't know if I should be pissed off that she heard my conversation or laughed at the panicky guilty look on her face.
"I didn't know anybody was in here." I said.
"Yeah, I guessed that, but I didn't want to interrupt your conversation. I didn't mean to eardrop."
I smirked at her, giving her a knowing look. She smiled sheepishly then shrugged her shoulders.
"Ok, so I did mean to eardrop, but in my defence I was here first, it isn't my fault that you guys forget to inspect the room before you started talking."
I chuckled under my breath. I don't know you guys, but there's something about this girl that makes me forget about my worries and pain, even if it was for a little while. I really enjoy her company.
I got up from where I was sitting and walked over to Megan's crib and placed her in it carefully. She was sleeping, and she looked so innocent and beautiful, just like her mother. I felt my anger sore at the thought of Melody lying in the hospital bed, refusing to open her eyes. Didn't she know that I needed her? I tucked the blanket around Megan. We needed her.
"They're so peaceful when they're sleeping, it's the most beautiful thing to watch, don't you agree?"
I nodded my head, it was beautiful to watch.
"So, um...would you like to go get some coffee with me?"
I turned my head to watch her, was she asking me out on a date? She much has seen the confusion on my face, because she went red.
"Oh, my god! I didn't mean that the way it sounded, I wasn't asking you out on a date or anything, just two strangers who happened to meet in the hospital's nursery, going to have a cup of coffee. I know you're in love with coma girl—"
I flinched when she called Melody coma girl. And her eyes widen in horror and guilt.
"Oh, my god! I didn't...I shouldn't have...I'm so sorry, I didn't mean that."
We just stood there quietly watching each other. I didn't think I was mad at her, but I wasn't too happy either. The silence got intense, so I decided to break it.
"Coffee sounds good."
A beautiful smile lit up her face and I smiled in return. Besides, there was no harm in getting coffee with her, I did dump mine before I came into the nursery. And I knew it meant nothing, my heart was already taken.
"Great! I know this nice little place that serves the worst coffee to ever assault your taste buds..."
She started walking towards the door and I chuckled and followed.
"And the awesome thing is, it's right here in this hospital."
She continued talking about random things and I just listen and laughed when she said something funny. However, I stopped listening when I passed Melody's room and saw that Max was still there. I stopped for a minute and watched. Max looked up as if sensing me, but I turned and walked away. It stilled pissed me off to see him near her.
Isabelle was oblivious to it all, she carried on talking and walking and I hurried to catch up to her. I laughed when I saw a few people were looking at her strange. She turned when I laughed and frowned. She looked around and saw people giving her weird looks.
"What's with the crazy girl looks coming my way?"
I shrugged my shoulders and tried to keep a straight face. I wasn't about to tell her that she was talking to herself for about three minutes.
