Chapter 8 The Wolf Is Out Of The Bag

Was this what she felt? Bella thought as she stood by the door watching her little sister sit on a chair staring out the window. Bella hadn't done that in weeks ever since she started hanging out with Jacob who has stopped talking to her. Nia started a few days ago. There were nothing but unfathomable thoughts and unanswered questions in Nia's head. It turned into depression, Forks, her mother, sister, Jacob, Quil, Embry and the meadow were the things on her mind. She had lost her mom to her new husband, her sister Bella to the unpresent Edward and her three best friends to Sam Uley (who they hated couple weeks ago) for reasons unknown. She had nothing now, no one to talk to, no one to love her back. Bella was also worried about Jacob who had stopped talking to her and sister. She grew agitated, she couldn't take it anymore. Bella slammed her fists and matched over to her sister. "Up" she demanded. Nia didn't even move an in inch so Bella pulled her up and dragged her into her car. Nia tried to let go in protest but Bella had an iron grip. She was tired of feeling sorry for herself. She drove to Forks to give Jacob a piece of her and her sister's mind.

Nia rolled her eyes upon seeing the Black house. It was no use for her. Whatever Bella had planned wouldn't work, Bia would still be depressed and Jacob would still be ignoring them both. Bella got out of the car slamming the door in the process whereas her sister slowly got out and followed after her mad sister.

Billy answered the door. "I need to see Jacob." Bella announced.

"I'm sorry girls, but he hasn't-"

"-been feeling well? That has been the excuse for these last couple of weeks. We need to talk to him."

"You need to talk to him. I was dragged here remember?" Nia bitterly said. She was annoyed. Jacob is never gonna talk to her or Bella again.

"He's-" Bella went inside midway Billy's lame excuse. Nia rolled her eyes at her rudeness.

"Sorry Billy." She apologized on behalf of her sister stepping into the house. She followed Bella through the halls and into Jacob's room. Despite what Billy said, Jacob was sleeping on his bed when the Swan sisters barged in. Nia knew that Bella wasn't gonna wake Jacob up, but she wasn't leaving either. Just my luck, a couple boys from Uley's cult came out from the backyard. They were shirtless and ripped but Nia didn't care, the only body part her eyes wandered on was their matching tattoos on their arms. One of them was Embry, the guy she had fancied a couple weeks ago. He was buffier than the last time she saw him and it suited his short hairstyle. Nia ducked her head as she followed her sister who approached them.

"What did you do?" Bella screamed at them. They stopped in front of her. "What did you do?" She pushed Sam who didn't even move an inch. The faces of the other boys hardened at this.

"What did we do? What did he tell you? What'd he tell you!" A booming voice shouted. Nia couldn't see the face though, she was covered by Bella's back.

"Nothing! He tells me nothing because he's scared of you."

That voice began to lough. Nia could sense a red flag on this guy. The dangerous tension in the air was hard to miss. Bella slapped him. Nia gasped in shock and fear. Bella couldn't even hurt a fly. Oh no. Her older sister moved backwards, now she could see the face. He was shaking and growling, gripping hand into fists, Nia squinted her eyes not believing that his ears started to grow. She might've been mad at Bella but she had to get her out now. "Bella-" she tried to drag her sister out but Bella pulled back her hand making her younger sister fall to the ground. The attention was now on here.

That was the moment when Paul Lahote imprinted on Nia Swan. Her head lifted to see him starring deeply at her. Their eyes sparkled, it was a not a good time to fond over a stranger but Nia couldn't help stare at his beautiful face...and his rock hard abs. Paul on the other hand had completely forgotten about the slap as he was looking intently to the goddess on the ground. He imagined himself brushing his fingers on her rosy lips and tucking her brown locks behind her ears so that he could admire her dark brown eyes even more. Sam and the other boy were shocked that the player of La Push and the hothead of the pact just imprinted. Bella was the most confused at the situation. "I'm sorry Nia, I didn't mean to." The younger one nodded at her sister knowing that it was just an accident. But wasn't for Paul. He looked back and forth to his imprint and the blood sucker's mate. The shaking came but, and this time it didn't stop.

"It's too late now."

"Girls get back!"

He jumped ripping his clothes and landed in wolf form. Nia could feel her stomach dropped. She knew it, it was all true. Nia was still bolted to the ground while her sister took off running "Nia run!"

Jacob ran into the backyard where Bella ran past him warning him to run. He didn't listen though, instead, he also transformed into a wolf. Now Nia wasn't surprised that Jacob did the same, she had just connected the dots from the wolves to Sam Uley. She stared at Jacob's brown wolf with the same set of dark brown eyes she had seen back at the meadow.  He stood protectively in front of the Swan girls. The dark silvered wolf pounced on Jacob and their fight began.

Sam rushed over to the two whimpering girls. "Take them back to Emily's place."

Jared helped Bella up while the other came up to me and said "Guess the wolf's out of the bag." Embry tried to lighten up the mood by offering his hand. Nia stared up at it and slowly put her hand in his pulling her up. There was an awkward silence before he spoke up. "Nia I-" He didn't finish-Nia Swan had just kicked him where the sun doesn't shine and ran the opposite direction.

---------

"Oh hey, about Emily, Sam's fiancé? Don't stare. It bugs Sam." Embry said to us before walking into the house. We rode in silence the whole time-well, Nia was the silent one. Up till now. The young brunette's mind was clogged with unanswered questions and thoughts.

The sisters found why Embry warned up not to stare. Emily Young's left side of the face were scarred with multiple scratched running from the bottom of her eye sockets to her chin. Nia wondered what had caused this but knew it was impolite to ask. "So you're the vampire girl?" She smiled at Bella.

"Wait what?" Bella's a vampire? I looked at all of them in disbelief and stormed out of the house. I hadn't known that even my sister was a monster...

Footsteps were heard at the back "Go away Bella." Nia called out not needing to look back to see who it is.

"Just let me explain!"

"Then explain!" She turn around "That's what I've been waiting for months! Explain to me why you were so distant during your 'depression', why are you so secretive, why you wouldn't let of of this Edward and how come you're a vampire?"

"I am not a vampire...I'm in love with one. Edward and his family are and the reason why I didn't tell you and dad was to keep you both safe. I know what happened to you and Laurent in the woods and meadow-that's what also happened to me. There are vampires who want to kill me and now you. It killed me leaving you alone, but I'm your big sister and if anything would ever happen to you I wouldn't know how to live with myself." Bella looked down with a tear falling down to her cheek. She looked up again. "As for Jacob and the wolves..I'm still in the dark about this as same as you. BUt if you would come back, maybe we could find out more." Bella pleaded.

Nia bit the inside of her cheek. There were so many things she wanted to know but she also wanted time to herself. She lowered her pride and went back in. Before she did though, Bella held her hand in comfort. Nia pulled back her's and glared. "I'm going back inside not for you but to finally know the truth. You still need to gain back my trust."

The boys sat back down on their seats. It was obvious that they had eavesdropped. They were about to grab muffins when Emily swatted their greedy hands away. "Save some for your brothers. And ladies first. Muffin?"

"No thanks."

"Yes please." Bella and Nia said in unison. They both grabbed a seat and sat. "You haven't eaten in days." Bella pushed a plate towards Nia who pushed it back.

Embry got the muffin and put it on Nia's plate. "You should eat Nia."

"Since when did you care?"

"Ohh burn!" Jared laughed to himself. All of us stared at him, Emily flicked the back of his head. "Ow...sorry." He went back to eating.

"Leave to Jacob to find a way around Sam's gag order." Emily mentioned.

"He didn't mention anything to us." Bella replied.

"That's a wolf thing. Alpha's orders get obeyed wether we want to or not. And check it out. We can hear each other's thoughts." Embry said.

Jared gave him a shove. "Would you shut up? These are trade secrets. She runs with vampires damn it."

"You can't really run with vampires." I retort. He gave me a glare. Emily and Embry giggled at my remark. Bella gave half a smile, I ignored it looking the other way. "Cause they're faster."

"Well we're more faster."

"You're not the first monsters I've met."

"And you're right." Sam walks in nodding to Bella. "Jake's right, you're good with weird." Emily perked up when he came longer. They shared a kiss while I roll my eyes. I knew that Embry was watching in the corner of my eye. Sam sat down beside and "And you're new to this."

"Anything else Mr. Obvious?" I sarcastically retort.

He laughed like that I was actually telling a joke. "And still feisty as when you were young and didn't stop following me around." I stayed quiet because it was true. Before I left this town with Renee, Sam and I were two peas in a pod. He was like an older brother and I, his younger sister. But that was the past, things have changed.

Two other boys went in smiling and acting as if they literally weren't biting each other just twenty minutes ago. Jacob sat beside Bella, and Paul sat beside Nia. Involuntarily, he shifted his seat closer to hers. Sam smirked at the hothead while Nia grew more comfortable in her seat, still, they would share a couple glances at each other before shyly turning away. "Sorry." He said to Bella.

"You girls already know Jacob, Embry, Emily and I...so this is Jared Cameron-" Jared raised his glass "-and Paul Lahote." Paul smiled not at Bella but at Nia.

"I know you."

"You do?"

"Of course, you have quite a reputation around here."

"As do you the new hottie of Forks." He flirted.

"I wasn't talking about your temper, player." She smirked grabbing a muffin.

"Ouch!" The boys laughed.

"You so do NOT have a chance now!" Jared teased.

"Shut up Cameron." Paul glared. Nia put back the muffin before she had ate it. She stopped herself at laughing, she couldn't be laughing after what happened. She needed to think-but think about what? She already knew what she wanted to know but Nia still felt bothered by the vampires, wolves, her sister-everything in general. Nia lost her appetite much to Bell and Embry's dismay. Paul had noticed change of mood too as the laughter died down.

"Excuse me." Nia left to go for a walk.

----------

Nia saw Bella and Jacob go out to talk. She didn't join them, figured that they would talk about their relationship that never happened. Poor Jacob, Bella would never look at him in that way. Upon hearing footsteps crunching the grass, Nia looked down to see Paul climb up and sat beside her. It was no use telling him that she wanted to be alone, Paul Lahote didn't seem to be a guy who listens to orders. Instead, she kept quiet staring out into the distance. He was the first one to speak, "It's a lot to take in, I know. I had a difficult time accepting the truth but the truth hurts. And it's better to know now than being confused forever."

Nia stayed silent, it took a couple minutes for her to reply. And in those silent minutes Paul sat there awkwardly contemplating wether he should come down and let her be with her thoughts. "How did you cope?"

"Sex" Nia flipped her head and saw Paul smiling at his joke "Sam, Jared. They were the only shifters before me. They helped me cope with the new lifestyle and for a while were my mentors. Having people who can help and support you is better than closing yourself from your humanity not having anyone to be your backbone." Nia looked down at her hands, another pair of hands made it's way to hers. Paul opened her fists and placed a muffin on top. "I noticed how you stared at the muffin before placing it back. Punishing yourself won't do you any good either."

"Th-thank you." She smiled at him. Nia did not at all recognise this boy who had phased into a mad wolf a while ago, instead, she saw the true Paul Lahote, a sweet and caring one. She felt a pull to him which she had never felt with anyone (including Embry) before. Paul felt the same. And they only just met. He used to think that imprinting was a stupid way to get tied down but now he saw it with a new set of eyes, it was the thing pulling you up and not down to the ground. It was warmth in the heart that will never leave.

" I know that we only had just met but I'd like to see more of you-to help you cope and all." Paul tried to play it cool. He was a natural at talking to girls but he found himself talking like a dork with Nia. He was beyond nervous at her reply.

"I would love that." She nodded.
