Chapter 8 The Call
Be careful, Nia reminded herself. She walked slowly carrying a tray full of cookies the pack. A smile was evident in the brunette's face. Baking lessons in Emily's strict kitchen finally paid off after weeks of practice and observation. Nia Swan was proud to say that she could finally bake. So she decided to make chocolate chip cookies to celebrate. Simple yet delicious, that's how Nia liked it. In fact, she made three batches. Two for the pack, Emily and their imprints then one for her father Charlie. It was supposed to be a surprise for them, but being in a house full of werewolves with sensitive noses changed that. They all came rushing to the round table by te porch as soon as they whiffed the aroma of the freshly baked pastry. "Tada!" Nia exclaimed.
Each one took two pieces muttering a "thanks" before devouring it. Paul did not say thank you on the other hand, instead, he pecked his girlfriend on the lips earning him two more cookies. "World's sexiest baker right here." He pulled her closer by the waist and nuzzled his face into her neck. Nia's face turned red as the pack starred at them with disgusted faces. Quil made a barfing noise which sent the pack into fits of laughter. Paul rolled his eyes at the seventeen year old boy. "Jelous Quil?" He smirked refferring to his two year old imprint, Clair Young, Emily's niece. The pack then replied with 'ohhs' and 'ouch!' as Quil gave Paul a sarcastic smile along with the middle finger.
"Oh! I almost forgot I have another tray in the kitchen." Nia hopped out of Paul's arms and ran to the next room.
"Oh I almost forgot I have another tray!" Leah as bitter as ever mocked.
Nia popped her head round the door "I heard that Leah. So you're helping me bring them here." She motioned Leah to come over with her index finger. The she wolf rolled her eyes and stood up from where she was sitting. The pack burned holes in her back for being rude whereas Leah didn't give a flying F of what they thought. She's a bitch and she knows it. Nia tried to keep cool with Leah Clearwater though never arguing back at the moody girl. From her experience with Julie Myers from last year, Nia Swan could spot a broken heart from a mile away that could change any girl from sweet to bitter. So she sent her a warmhearted smile when she placed the tray on Leah's hands.
Meanwhile in the porch, they all spit out the extremely salty cookies into the trash bin. "Those were the worst cookies ever!"
"Shut up Jacob she might hear you." Jared peaked through the window to see more cookies on their way. Nia waved hello at him as he faked a smile. "Oh no, incoming."
The rest groaned. Paul shot a glare warning them all to play nice. Leah went out followed by Nia who wore a bright smile. "Who wants more?" She looked at them with enthusiasm. They all looked at anywhere besides her face.
Embry spoke up "Nia I love you as a sister bu-SWEET MOTHER OF" Paul coughed kicking him in the groin from underneath the table. Everyone looked at Embry with puzzled looked. "Sweet. Mother. Of. Cookies! They're amazing but unfortunately-" he stood up "-It's my turn for patrol."
A ring from Nia's pocket made everyone sigh in relief. They were saved by the bell. Nia took her phone out and squealed. "Bella! I've missed you! When are you coming home?" Attention was on her again. The pack had mixed emotions about her older sister since the Jacob vs Edward fiasco since last year. Others like Emily, Sam, Embry and Quil perked up whilst others like Paul, Leah and Jared rolled their eyes. Jacob belonged to a different category however, he belonged to the love sick puppy group.
"I'm at home actually-well, at the Cullens. But don't tell Charlie though." Nia's eyebrows furrowed as to why Bella didn't want her own father to know she was home, and why she sounded so weak. Must be that honeymoon sex, Nia shrugged. (Meanwhile, Edward who was sitting beside his wife chocked on his drink. Even through a telephone, he could still that twisted witty mind of Nia's.)
"Why wouldn't you want me to tell dad your back? Are you okay? What's up?" The first question rose some eyebrows in the pack, especially Jacob's.
"Um...I actually have news. And I don't know wether it's good or bad."
Nia brought the phone closer to her ear. "What kind of news Bella?"
Nia heard shuffling before Bella answered. And when she did. Nia could hear nothing but static. She could no longer concentrate. The pack asked what was it but she dosed off for a moment until without any explanation, Nia ran to her car and started the engine. The pack just looked at each other confused as ever. It was Paul who decided to run after her but by the time he arrived in the front lawn, Nia's car was gone. She was going beyond the speed limit. Paul would chase after her but he had no idea where she was going. He wondered what Bella told her.
