Chapter 3 Embry Call
The days seem to get gloomier in Forks for Nia. Everyday she would leave a snack and a cup of coffee by Bella's bedside while she was still staring at that damn window. On most nights, she wouldn't sleep, Bella's screams could be heard in all rooms of the house. It took Nia switching rooms to three times to find that out. So she and her sister started sharing a bed which worked....for a little while. Nia was worried as hell, her first B- was a wake up call for her to start sleeping over in Jessica's. Charlie on the other hand was already accustomed to it. Now he's figuring out how to tell Bella that she might be going back to Reneé to get help. One sunny afternoon, Nia was laying on her bed contemplating what she should do today. She couldn't talk whenever she's with Jessica and all she can do is talk when she's with Bella who douln't even answer 90% of the time. I can hang with Charlie while he's in work...nah i'm not that desperate. "Aha!" She shot up from the bed. Remembering the lovely twins Nia always looked up to. Wether they were putting on make up or having another one of their teenage conversations, Nia was obsessed with the Black girls ever since she was five. Hopping into her car outside the house, she drove away to the Black household. Of course, she knew that Rachel and Rebecca no longer lived in town, the reason why she was driving all the way to La Push was because of the cute black haired boy named Jacob. He was Nia's childhood crush, that ended when Jacob gave Bella Valentines cookies when she was seven. Now they're good friends who texts each other from time to time. I can't wait to see the look on his face when he sees me! Nia smiled at the rearview mirror excited to see her childhood playmate.
DING DONG, the youngest Swan shuffled awkwardly at the porch of the Black house. It felt like yesterday running around the red house attempting to catch Jacob who kept on stealing her favorite doll. From the looks of the house, Nia concluded that nothing really changes in here. It was a good thing though, it still felt like home. The door was swung open by the man on a wheelchair. "Nia?"
"Billy!" She crouched down to hug the second father figure she had. "Still wearing that ridiculous hat?"
"Still wearing a diaper on your head singing country music?"
"Touché, let's never talk about that ever again."
Billy laughed at the witty teenager. "You have grown so much since the last time I saw you. How are you?"
"I've missed you too Billy! And I'm doing good!" Nia nodded her head. She was also glancing inside the house for any sign of Jacob.
Billy smirked knowing what she was doing, "Jacob's in the garage. I swear that boy seems to spend more time in there more than he does in the house." Nia was long gone before Billy could even complete his sentence.
Jacob was in the middle of fixing some motorcycle when the brunette bursted through the door. He had to time to say a word because he got tackled to the floor in a hug. "JACOB"
"NIA?! What are you doing here!?"
"I live here now stupid! You could have known if you hadn't left me on read a few weeks ago!" She punched his arm.
"AWW" He screeched. "You were the one who left me on read!"
"NO I DIDN'T-wait really-no way." Nia brought up her phone to doublecheck. Indeed, it was her. "Whoops, sorry." She sheepishly said getting off of him. He was still inthe ground shaking his head at her. Nia brought her arm out to help him stand up. "Woah you have the height of a building now." She got to admit, puberty was being good to him. The only that she didn't like was the bird's nest on his head. "And since when were you a hippie? Is it real?" She tugged on his long hair which he yelped in pain again and swatted her hands away.
"Okay now I regret wishing you moved back here."
"Aww little Jacob missed me that much?"
"Shut up."
---------
It took two hours for the teens to catch up with everything. They got along still pretty well after years of not seeing each other. Jacob still didn't believe that 'country music Nia' had 'boobs'. A comment which sent Jacob's tool flying to his head. Charlie Swan also came over to visit his best friend. The two dads were currently watching the game inside the house while the two teens stayed in the same area. Jacob went back to fixing a motorbike for Bella while she was lounging on the couch reading The Written Project. There was a peaceful silence...minus Jacob's tools. Nia grabbed her cup of coffee on the table and took a sip. A song was playing o the stereo, a song she knew all too well. Nia softly sung a long. "I may never ever walk on water.I may never ever walk away. I may never get the chance to tell you. Oh believe me."
"Wow you're good. You should sign up for American Idol." Nia got up from the couch to face Jacob. This was the first nice thing he had to say to her. She liked him being nice "...if they want the world to end." Her smile turned upside down. Jacob started laughing hysterically he turned serious when he saw Nia grab another one of his tools to throw at him. "NO NIA STOP-"
KNOCK KNOCK
Nia let down the screwdriver. "Be thankful Black, that just saved your life." He nodded scared of her.
Jacob looked at Nia with new respect. "You don't seem like you're into the Indie scene. Everyone in school is pretty into it." He pointed at her shirt.
Wow, I like La Push high school more than my own now. "Well don't ever judge a book by it's cover." She stuck her tongue out. "The Smiths are a classic 80's Indie."
"Bella used to like this song but now she says that she doesn't like music anymore."
"Well, that's Bella. Distancing herself from everyone she loves for some guy that's not even in the same country for all we know." A couple more loud knocks cutt Nia off in her midrant. Jacob ran to the door to get it.
Nia wondered who it could be. It couldn't be her father, Charlie. He definitely would spend more than just two hours here-perhaps even the whole day. This was his second home. He was probably drinking a beer and talking about hunting with his best friend Billy right now.
Jacob swung the door open and was knocked down by two other teenage boys. Nia felt a sense of deja vu. They looked about their age and had the same features as every other person in La Push; beautifully dark hair and an eye catching skin tone of russet. Nia stared awkwardly at the trio now roughhousing. When they stood up, one of them grabbed her coffee and started chugging on it not knowing that she owns it. Heck, the two teens still hadn't noticed that she was in the room. One of them finally met eyes with a smiling Nia and quickly nudged his other friend with long hair similar to Jacob's. The one who was drinking her coffee looked up at chocked at the hot beverage causing a seen. The two new strangers were immediately smitten to Nia's beauty. One of them tried to stop chocking on his drink which made it worse, coffee spilled out of his nose making the only girl in the room laugh. "Are you okay?" She asked. The embarrassed boy tossed his hand to give her a hands up.
"Nia Swan, meet Qui-"
"I'm Quil Ataera." He cut Jacob off. Nia held her hand for a handshake but Quil went for a kiss on the back of her hand instead. He had a flirty smile, CRINGE.
"And I'm Embry Call." The one who chocked on her coffee sheepishly said. Normally, she would be pissed if someone stole her coffee but what the hell, coffee boy looks cute.
"Dude you were ruining the moment." Embry glared at Quil who thought he had a shot. Nia giggled involuntarily twirling her hair. "So you're Jacob's girlfriend?" Quil asked.
Nia almost gagged "No...um...we're just friends."
"BURN" Quil laughed together with Embry.
"A-actually, remember the part whe-when I said tha-that she's a girl a-and a friend." Jacob stammered.
"Embry do you remember making that distinction?" Quil sassily asked.
Embry responsonded with a loud "Nope!"
Jacob gave her a sorry look. This dork told them I was with girlfriend? Nia crosses her arms and smirked. "I don't know wether I should feel flattered or disgusted."
"HAHA He did that to Bella too! How is she by the way?"
Nia shrugged at Quil. "So do you two have girlfriends?"
It was not Jacob's turn to laugh at the two. They both shifted uncomfortably. Especially Quil. Oh please mother earth don't make Jacob bring it up. "Quil here-" FUCK "-is taking his cousin to prom!"
"Yeah that's funny Black. You want funny? I'll give you funny." He tackled Jacob back to the ground. This time, Jacob fought back laughing at Quil's selfish attempts to shove him back down.
"What's with boys and roughhousing?" Embry took a seat beside Nia while this happened. He shook his head not knowing. "And i'm guessing that you don't have a girlfriend to take to prom? Or are you taking your cousin too?" She teased.
He looked down scratching the back of his neck. "I don't have a girlfriend...nor a prom date yet."
"Well that's good." Embry looked surprised by Nia's response. "It's good to keep your options open." She winked at the blushing boy.
