Chapter 14 Mind Over Body

With more vampires turning up, more Quileutes turned.  A whole bunch of newly turned kids was under Sam's care. They showed up scared and confused but their state of shock evolved into honor and strength as the days went by. They started training and patroling around the area taking note of the incoming and outcoming vampires around to protect the people here. Nia heard about them through Seth, Quil, and Embry. They also didn't spare her any details with Paul who was still getting into fights. She scoffed not surprised that the hothead hadn't changed. It surprised her though that when they clarified that he's been getting into fewer fights nowadays. He was trying to be a calm person now. Out of curiosity, Nia asked if he ever started seeing someone new, Seth, Quil, and Embry all shook their heads 'no' and. It's not like I care anyway, she said to herself shrugging.

Still, the pack was getting anxious with the growing amount of vampires in town. They knew that she and the Cullens were no threat but the visitors staying with the Cullens maybe. Most of them weren't vegetarian vampires. They thirsted human blood. Thankfully, they all agreed to hunt in other areas but it still made the newborn vampire guilty. Even though Nia couldn't control herself around humans yet, she knew that the best way to keep everyone safe was to stay away from humans. However, that all changed when two new vampires joined them.

Two days ago

Renesmé and Nia both sat crossed leg on the porch overlooking the forest. They were catching up-talking about everything they both missed out on each other's lives.

"What's this?" Nia smiled holding onto Renesmé's bracelet.

"Jacob made it for me." The little girl perched up showing her aunt more of the bracelet. "Do you like it?"

"I love it." Nia grinned tapping her niece's nose.

In the distance, she saw Jacob giving a smile at them. He was currently with the newly turned shifters who looked no less than fifteen years of age. They were all in the middle of a discussion when suddenly two figures emerged through the woods. Everybody couldn't see their faces due to them running but they were vampires and were certainly not invited. Jacob sensed the danger and shifted into wolf form before howling to alert the others.

"C'mon" Nia pulled her niece up and lead her inside the house. "Stay inside and don't come out unless told so okay!" She didn't even wait for a reply before joining the others chase the intruders.

After a lengthy chase which involves the wolds clawing at the trees when the two jumped tree to tree, they ended up sitting on top of a boulder. The two vampires had smugness written all over their faces as the pack and the newly formed coven gathered from down below. Only Carlisle had a calm expression on his face upon seeing the dark-haired and white-haired vampires who had red glowing eyes. It was obvious that he knew them.

"Vladimir and Stefan, you're a long way from home." Carlisle remarked looking up at them.

The vampire who had snowy white-haired answered, "We heard the Volturi were moving against you and that you wouldn't stand alone." Nia took note of his strong Romanian accent.

"But we didn't do what we were accused of-"

"-we do not care what you did Carlisle."

The other one added, "We have been waiting for a millennium for the Italian scum to be challenged." He smiled making the mood more sinister than it already was.

"It's not our plan to fight the Volturi."

"Well, that's a shame. You think they'll listen?"

Present

When it was time for the vampires to hunt, all set out of town to do the deed. The only ones who remained were the ones who didn't rely on human blood. Nia was among one of them but the reason why she snuck out was not to hunt but rather to spy. She overheard the two Romanian vampires talking about feeding in town tonight and she wasn't going to stand for it. So she followed them when they sped out of the house. Nobody knew of her plan since she told them she'll just be in her room.

It was around midnight, it was a weekday so there wasn't really anyone insight in the streets. However, music and the sound of laughter was blaring in the corner of one street. It was a bar, and there were drunken people surrounding it. It was a perfect opportunity to hunt. Nia saw the two vampires walk towards it then turn left into an alleyway beside the lively bar. She got out of her hiding place behind a pole and walked in the same direction. Drunk people stumbled out of the bar bumping her on the way out. Nia's stomach started to hurt. She was getting hungry for not just any blood but for human blood. She licked her lips and clenched her fists trying to control herself. The smell of an open wound dilated her eyes. She was certain that her glowing red eyes were seen through the brown contact lenses but she didn't care and followed the scent of the flood.

It was of a woman in an alleyway. The same one Vladimir and Stefan went to. She was on the ground crying while the two vampires fed off of her. One of their hands was on her mouth silencing her screams.

"Took you long enough Nia Swan," Vladimir smirked turning around. He had blood dripping from his pale lips. "We're over a millennium old, we would know if someone was following us." His accent echoed throughout the dark alley.

Nia snapped herself out of her hungry gaze and said, "You're not supposed to hunt here. Leave that girl alone." She glared at him. He and Stefan started laughing. "You think that just because you're older doesn't mean I can take you." She patted out although, on the inside, she was quite unsure of their strength. One to two didn't seem like a pretty odd for the newborn vampire.

The two Romanian vampires looked at each other before throwing the woman's body at Nia's feet. She was barely breathing but nevertheless alive. Blood covered her outfit. It was inviting to Nia. She started to shake uncontrollably before bending down and feeding garnering more screams for the poor innocent woman. Nia wanted to stop, she begged her will to be strong enough. But it was too strong. The bloodlust was hardest thing to beat.

The Romanian vampires continued laughing. "I think we have a hypocrite in our hands, Vladimir."

"You're not wrong Stefan."

Nia whipped her head up at the two, her mouth and chin matched theirs-dripping with fresh warm blood. The woman was still alive and breathing heavily. "Don't you dare call me a hypocrite." She stood up slowly.

The two vampires were surprised. "You're not gonna finish your meal?"

"Human's aren't in my diet. Sorry boys." She wiped her lips clean. The blood allowed her to gain more physical strength while her still innocent soul allowed her to overcome the thirst. "Don't ever feed here ever again. Got it?"

"Or what?" They scowled.

Nia just smirked before walking over them. "You'll die." With those two words, she slammed Stefan's head onto the brick wall before grabbing onto Dimitri's body and slamming him onto the pavement. Stefan tackled her to the ground but before he could succeed, Nia kicked him sending him flying before landing on his feet. Dimitri also recovered and now was standing beside Stefan. Their eyes shot daggers onto Nia's head before they ran towards her preparing to end her.

However, it ended up with Dimitri on the ground begging Nia not to rip Stefan's head. Stefan was kneeling in front of Dimitri, his jaw started to crack due to Nia behind him pulling them apart. "GIVE UP NOW?" She screamed at them.

"FINE FINE WE WON"T HUNT HERE ANYMORE. JUST DON'T HURT HIM. HE'S THE ONLY ONE I HAVE LEFT." With a victorious smile, she pushed Stefan onto Dimitri and left not before bringing the injured woman to the hospital.

When she reached the Cullen house, everyone was taken back by her bloody appearance.

"Di-did you hunt humans?" Bella's eyes widened at her sister. She pulled Renesmé to the side not wanting her to see this.

Carlisle and Emmet stood up in shock while Rosalie tried not to be tempted by the blood on Nia's body. Only Alice had a knowing smile. She had a vision of this.

"Nope, but those two idiots Vladimir and Stefan almost did. Good thing I was there to save the woman in time." She blew her nails before skipping into her room.

She was really glad to have beaten the bloodlust for humans. Now, she was glad that she could finally visit her dad.
