Chapter 55

A/N: If you can't handle cliffhangers...wait until next chapter to read. Very bad cliffie ahead.

"No."

"What do you mean no?" Jungwoo's brows shot up, his annoyance flaring.

"Exactly what I said." Jungkook leaned in his leather chair. They were in his office, currently his father's office. When Jungwoo said he wanted to talk that morning, Jungkook wasn't so excited. "I'm not ready to take over the US operations."

Jungwoo snorted, "You wanted me to acknowledge your hard work." He reclined in the chair, crossing his legs and clasping his hands over his abdomen. "I see that you've turned around the atmosphere here. I won't say I'm thrilled, but it certainly brought positive changes and increased productivity. The investors and shareholders won't stop singing your praise and capability. Naturally, I want to expand your domain so that one day you can take over as this company Chairman."

Jungkook stared at his father for a long moment. Was that a validation? It was the only good thing his father had said to him in...well, maybe this was the only good thing he said to him. Only it did not affect the youngest. Perhaps, if his father had said this a few years ago, it would have meant something. Now, it only brought a frown to his face.

"As I said, I'm not ready. My hands are full and I don't have enough time for anything else."

"When I was your age, I was already a father and a Chairman of this company." Jungwoo chuckled, "And look at you, I merely asked you to handle the US operations and you're whining."

Jungkook narrowed his eyes at his father. "The Managing Director for the US operations is handling it well. Recently, we had a remarkable breakthrough in the US market with our recent product launch. I may not handle the global business, but I'm aware of what's happening with our business." He crossed his legs and fixed his stare at his father. "The transition with Chinese operations is still in process. Many things have to be changed or restructured. I'm working at my pace."

"It's not a valid excuse," Jungwoo said dismissively. "Have your friend...that Taehyung guy to handle the operations here while you sort out the US. You'll have to stay there for six months. Your personal manager is efficient and can run things until you can come back. People can't stop talking about the Saturday party. I'm sure he can handle things on your behalf with Taehyung. I already have everything planned out for your move."

A sigh drifted off Jungkook. He was too tired to argue with his father on a Monday morning. "I'm not going anywhere." He stood, pushing his hands into the pockets of his black dress pants. "Stop controlling my life."

"I wasn't giving you a choice."

Jungkook lifted a brow. "I didn't expect you to and don't make me repeat. I'm staying here. It's either my way or no way."

"What do you think you can do, huh?" Jungwoo almost snarled, his composure slipping.

"I'll quit."

Jungwoo jumped to his feet, slamming his fists on the table. "Are you threatening me, boy? What kind of future do you think you'll have out of this office?"

Jungkook shrugged. "Anywhere is better than here." With that, he turned on his heels and left the office. He'd said enough. He'd be a fool if he let his father control his life again.

With Jimin back in his life, leaving to the US alone was the last thing on Jungkook's mind. His father can go to hell and take the business with him for all he cared about.

"You're doing great, Jimin-ah," Jin flashed a bright, contagious smile and Jimin found himself reciprocating the smile genuinely. "You're responding positively to our therapy lately. You haven't had a migraine in a month, especially since we resumed the therapy. It's a great sign."

Jimin smiled. Jin hyung thought his positive response and lack of headache was because of Jungkook. He had said that being in love with Jungkook again was somehow helping his therapy. His memories about the past were still vague, but Jimin thought he remembered most of his time with Jungkook and Taehyung. There were of course a huge chunk of memories missing at times, but it wasn't horrible unlike before. Moreover, he was getting better at handling his emotions.

"That's enough for today. I'll see you tomorrow again."

"Okay, hyung." He checked his watch. "Good night."

"Good night, Jimin-ah."

His phone rang as if on cue, an involuntary smile curving his lips. With a swipe of his thumb he lifted the device to his ear. "Jungkookie..."

"Hyung, Taehyungie hyung wants us to go over for dinner. Yoongi hyung is cooking. When are you coming?"

"I'm just leaving the hospital. I'll come there directly."

"Want me to pick you up?"

Jimin smiled fondly. "Nah, you don't have to drive all the way to the hospital. Besides, I'm leaving with Noona. I'll see you there."

"Okay, hyung. See you there."

Fifteen minutes later, he was in the car with the women, laughing and cracking jokes about their day. They still laughed about the party and what happened in the aftermath. The traffic was pretty light for a regular Monday night. He wasn't complaining though. The weather was pleasant and so was the song in the background.

"Guess who put a ring on our Katy?" Alvie started in a cheerful voice and Katy was already blushing in the backseat she shared with Jimin.

"Katy?" He looked at her, complaining. "You didn't bother to tell me because? We talked even this morning!"

"Aish...it's just a promise ring. We met for lunch today and he...um..." Even the dimly lit interiors couldn't hide her blush.

"A ring is a ring, nonetheless," he argued. "Promise ring, wow. I'm surprised he hasn't popped the question yet." Jimin examined the simple yet beautiful ring on her finger. "It's beautiful."

"We are...um...taking it slow?" Katy retracted her hand to fiddle with her fingers on her lap, a rare sight but it fit her well, especially today. Jimin never thought he'd catch his noona flustered over someone.

"And what about you, Panda? What are you hiding?"

"Nothing!" she squeaked in a high-pitch tone that spoke volumes and the others snickered.

"Are you asking about the time she conveniently forgot the condom?" Katy piped in.

"What?!" Portia grew red. "That was an accident."

Jimin lifted a brow in amusement. "Wow."

"Accident?" Alvie snickered.

"And they went at it thrice," Katy supplied with a cheeky smile.

"Ugh! Stop the car! Let me throw myself under a truck," Portia groaned. "Give me one good reason...why am I friends with you again?"

"Because you love us." They responded in unison.

"I want to go back in time and take back everything I said." Portia folded her hands across her chest with a pout. "Why is no one talking about Katy or Alvie?"

"Because our stories aren't hot as yours," Alvie supplied.

Their banter continued as Katy's phone rang. A blinding smile found its way to her face as she swiped her thumb across the screen. "Hey..." she breathed, face flustered. "Yeah...okay. I'll see you there."

"Hobi?" Alvie asked.

"Yeah." Katy cleared her throat. "Um...he invited me to Taehyung's home for dinner."

"Cool!" Portia cheered from the passenger seat. "If someone told me we will be head over heels for a man a few months ago, I'd have laughed at your faces."

"You did laugh," Jimin reminded her.

"I take it back," she grunted.

Jimin shook his head with a laugh. "Katy, I'm heading to Taehyungie's home too. We can go together."

"Sure," she beamed, visibly relaxing. "It's good to have company. I was kinda nervous."

"Yoongi hyung is cooking and you're already close to Taehyung." He poked her hand.

"I know...it still isn't like having you around."

"Right." He laughed a merry sound that filled the car.

They soon arrived at the women's shared apartment and Katy hurried to change for the night. Twenty minutes later, she stood in front of him, showered, and wearing a simple blue jean with a white long-sleeved t-shirt.

"Is this good to go?" Katy asked.

Jimin looked up from his phone to give her a once over and nodded with a smile. "You look adorable." He pocketed her phone. "Now let's go before my boyfriend drives here to pick me up." He rolled his eyes and Katy laughed. "He has already called me twice while you were changing."

"That's cute."

"It is." He turned to Portia and Alvie huddled on the couch arguing on what to watch. "See you girls tomorrow."

"Aren't you taking the car?" Portia asked.

"Nah, not in the mood to drive tonight," Katy said. "I'll take a taxi back or someone can drop me."

"Okay, then. Bye!" Both waved merrily as they left the apartment.

Jungkook called again when they jumped into the taxi and Jimin quickly rattled the address before answering the call. "Hey..."

"Where are you, hyung?"

"On my way. I'll reach in fifteen."

"Come soon, hyung..." Jungkook whined. "I already miss you."

Jimin laughed. "It's not even three hours since I left office. You already miss me?"

"I do."

Jimin could imagine Jungkook pouting at that. He's adorable.

"Shh...you're being a baby."

"I'm your baby."

Jimin burst into laughter, his eyes forming crescents and falling sideways on the seat. Katy was shaking her head at him with a knowing smile as she reached over and fastened his seat belt.

"You are," Jimin said softly. "Wait for ten more minutes...I'll be there, hmm?"

"Okay. Love you, hyung."

"Love you too, baby."

He pocketed the phone with a smile stretching his lips. The youngest was just so adorable when he got clingy and whiny. Jimin loved it when Jungkook behaved like that. It made him feel wanted. Cherished. It felt good.

"So...did you tell him yet?" Katy asked and Jimin knew what she was talking about.

"Not yet." He tried to talk about the rings and tell Jungkook about everything he remembered but the event organizer distracted him with a phone call and later it had slipped his mind.

She reached over to squeeze his hands gently. "Talk to him soon, Jiminie. You know communication is the key. He has to know the truth."

He nodded. "I'll tell him tonight."

"Good."

Jimin was about to respond when he saw the flashing headlights first. When his eyes widened and mouth opened to scream a warning it was too late. He registered Katy's frown and her head slowly turning to follow his gaze as the loud sound of impact deafened him.

Screeching tires, crunching metal and terrified screams—it all happened too soon as his head hit the airbag. There was a moment of silence and a hand reached out.

"J-Jiminie..." Her voice was shaking.

Jimin blinked. A pounding headache rendered him immobile for a moment. "N-noona." He grabbed for her hand blindly, relaxing at the warmth she exuded.

"Are you okay?" her voice wavered, dripping with worry.

Jimin wanted to say yes but he couldn't open his mouth. He took a few deep breaths before responding. His vision cleared as he now registered they were pushed over to a barricade. When he managed to glance at her, his heart stopped.

Red soaked her white t-shirt. She squeezed his hand weakly. "Are you hurt, Jiminie?" Her voice was too low, breathing shallow.

"N-no," he said. "Noona...you're...you're going to be okay."

She closed her eyes as the car shook again and Jimin realized whatever vehicle hit them was still attached to the side of their taxi and they were trying to pull away. It was also then his disoriented mind registered the airbags at her side hadn't worked as it should have.

Katy moved her head weakly to the right side, staring at what looked like a truck backing up. Her hold on his hand tightened. "C-can you get out?"

"Huh?"

When she turned her head to him, he saw blood dripping from the other side of her face. "Y-you have to get out now," she hissed and he could tell she was mustering up all her energy as she began to fumble with his seat belt. "T-try..."

He tried to help but he froze when he heard it again. With horror, he registered the truck was coming for them again. This time he saw it all, the fast-approaching vehicle and the panic in Katy's eyes.

Jungkookie...I'm sorry.

And they were hit.

Sorry about that...I'm still reeling from concert. If it's possible I'm having a concert hangover.

Until we meet again...💜💜💜

Their undercuts, see through shirts and sexy performances are killing me. And Jikook......why are they so hottttttttttttt....

I'm dead and writing from my grave.
