Prom Prep

"So you've found the journal?" Cole asked the second Kim caught up with him.

Rolling her eyes, she shook her head and smiled coyly at him. "Well, good morning to you too."

"Did you find it?" Cole could worry about greeting later. The Journal probably had everything up to Mattew's confession.

She rolled her eyes again. "Yes. It was in the school magazine room. On my desk as if I had left it there."

"Hadn't you?"

"Pfft. No. Someone stole it from me." She grunted then picked up her pace after she checked her watch. "And that person is so going to pay."

Cole caught up with her, slightly surprised they were heading the same way. "Are you sure-"

"I know my journal Cole. I carry that shit around all day because I practically write all my stuffs in it. Like what color of bra my girlfriend –sorry– ex-girlfriend wore today. Who looked at her? What was her grade on her last test?"

Cole narrowed his eyes at her. "You stalk your girlfriend?"

Kim stopped abruptly in the hall causing Cole to do the same and she gave him a tired look. "Look doll, what I do to my ex-girlfriend is none of your business. I wouldn't necessarily call it stalking but you'll still say I am." She sighed then continued, "My night last night was rough. Henry's boyfriend came over and I had to sleep on the couch since they went all doggy on my bed. I have to wash those sheets until they sparkle after school. But right now, I just want to plan prom and get on with my day. The journal is safe and I'll stop bringing it to school so at least the last part doesn't get broadcast."

"Uh thanks?"

"I don't have time for this." She immediately started walking again and Cole had to catch up as they both weaved themselves through the crowd that was formed in front of the cafeteria for reasons Cole didn't care about.

It has been a few days since the family dinner and prom was now a week away. It's was funny to Cole how they still hadn't started the familiar prom king and queen competition. However, that was hardly Cole's business since the only reason he was going was because of Cloud. Then there was the thing about his incomplete community hours.

The both of them finally got to the student council room and to Cole's surprise, Cloud was in there and he was talking with Sidney.

"See you later, Cole." Kim nodded at him before going to talk with the rest of the council members.

Taking a deep breath, Cole approached Cloud and Sidney and Cloud immediately stood up from the table he was sitting on. "Hey Cole."

"Hi Cloud. Sidney." He gave her a smile even though deep down, he was wishing she would disappear seeing as she couldn't keep her damn hands off his boyfriend.

"Haven't seen you in what? A week?" She smirked at him, finally taking her hands off Cloud's chest to cross her arms over her chest.

"Isn't that a good thing? We happen to see at bad times if you know what I mean." He gave her a bored look before looking back at the council members who were about to dish out orders.

Kim was the one to speak up for the rest of the members. "As you all know, prom and graduation is coming in a week. That is more like Friday and Saturday if you don't already know the exact date. We'll need volunteers to set up and take down prom and graduation before and after the event." She rose a blank sheet and showed it to the crowd in the room. "Each side has one. You can either help in the Prom or graduation. Equal community hours. You can do both since grad and prom are on two different days."

She dropped the sheet on the table then continued, "After you've written your names and email, people setting up prom should stick with me and graduation should be with Kelsey." Then she turned to the blond haired girl beside her and asked, "Is that fine with you?"

"It's perf." She answered without even looking at her.

Kim shrugged then knocked on the paper and said, "Begin." She moved away from the table so people could sign on it.

Cole didn't bother rushing to get there because it was quite a crowd. He'd just sign after when a lot were done.

"Who knew Kim was a lesbian?" Sid said suddenly and Cole was shocked to still see her hanging around. He had actually forgotten she was there.

"Kim's a lesbian?" Cloud asked confused as he looked at her.

"Wait, she isn't out?" Cole was confused. Kim was so comfortable talking about her girlfriend that Cole thought she was out.

"Nope."

"Then how did you know?" Cole was curious now. As much as Kim made being a lesbian clear to him, he had never thought of her as such before. She blushed around guys, giggled when someone said a joke and she was plainly just being a girl. Guessing she was a lesbian was just...absurd.

"Oh I know. Trust me, I know." She winked at him then smiled up at Cloud before disappearing into the crowd that had lessen slightly.

Cole felt a chill course down his spine and he made a face at her disappearing figure. "She makes my skin crawl."

"You dated her." Cloud replied making Cole look at him.

"Yeah, but that was to hide my sexuality. Which honestly, I shouldn't have done."

"Maybe we would have been dating earlier if you hadn't." He shrugged then started to walk over to the paper to sign up.

"Oh don't start pointing fingers. We both liked each other at the same time but were too much of a chicken to approach the other."

He wrote down both his name and Cole's then said to him, "I accept my fault. I should have asked you out earlier. If only I had found your man cave earlier though."

"Whatever." Cole rolled his eyes at him but brightened up when he saw Mattew and Marcus over Cloud's shoulders. He walked past Cloud to them startling the both of them.

Mattew almost jumped three feet in the air while Marcus just held his chest with a dramatic look on his face.

Mattew glared at him as he said, "Dude that scared me."

"Yeah. Where have you been man?" Marcus asked.

"Oh you know, here and there." Cole felt slightly bad since he hadn't been hanging out with them as he used to. He had more friends now plus he had to be home early whenever the CPS dropped by.

"Good to know, I guess."

Out of nowhere, Kim rushed towards them and dumped a couple flyers on Mattew then said, "Four of you, stick that on a couple of walls. I don't care where but it must be on this floor. Wrapped inside is a sticky tape. Don't let me leave here and it's not done."

"Make that five, ma'am." Dustin, who quickly entered the room, grinned at her then threw an arm around Marcus. "Sorry I'm late."

She only rolled her eyes skywards before moving to another group that was standing at another corner and conversing like they were.

"What crawled up her butt?" Mattew scoffed. "Come on, let's go put this up before the end of school's bell rings."

Quietly, they got to work, sticking up the prom posters on the walls and some lockers even. The locker idea was from Dustin, and Marcus was up for it mostly to piss off the owners.

They were on their last batch and it didn't need that much people to handle which made Marcus and Dustin fall back to actually discuss prom.

"I've got a prom date." Dustin said cheerily as he leaned against one of the lockers he had put a poster on. "Guess who?"

"I can't." Marcus shook his head.

"Carmine. Don't worry. You don't know her. She's in the school tennis team."

"I know her." Mattew spoke up, glancing away from the poster he was holding up for Cloud then added, "We were classmates in middle school. She's awesome in Geography."

"Future Geologist." Dustin chuckled.

"What about you Marcus, Mattew?" Cole asked. "At least, everyone knows I'm going with Cloud."

"Honestly, I don't know who to go for? Since I won the winning goal, I've got girls calling me constantly."

"Don't boast." Dustin punched Marcus lightly on his shoulder.

"What about you Mattew?" Cloud asked as he stuck the last edge of the poster to the wall.

Cole, Mattew and Cloud moved back to stare at the work. When they found it okay, Mattew finally answered, "No one's asked yet. You know, kind of quiet and hang with the same set of people."

When Cloud didn't respond, it became unnecessarily awkward, at least Cole thought so. Clearing his throat to get the attention off that, he walked up to Mattew and gave him one of his cocky smile. "Don't worry Matty, you'd definitely find a hottie that would take you or you'd take to prom. Trust me, your hottest cannot go to waste."

Cole was a bit amused by the blush that grew on Mattew's cheeks. Mattew ran a hand through his hair as a smile fell from his lips. "Thanks."

"Don't mention it."

"That was cute." Dustin said as came behind Cloud to put him in a headlock. "Come on, lover boy. We've got work to do."

Cloud only nodded then glanced between Mattew and Cole. "Yeah. See you later Cole."

"Where are you going?"

"Mrs. Markham needs our help moving her equipment to her new lab. You can come and help if you're free. I mean, Derick's your ride home right?" Dustin said as he started to pull Cloud away.

"He can ride with us if he's busy." Mattew shrugged then smiled at Cole.

"Thanks but I'll stick with Cloud. We were going to the tailors after anyways."

"Oh."

"Okay. Later then." Dustin called to them before disappearing down the hall.

Marcus finally stood up from where he was squatted on the floor. Walking over to Cole and Mattew, he said, "So, should we say bye now?"

"Shut up Marcus." His twin shook his head at him then said to Cole, "So, how's home? You get along with Tames well nowadays."

"The little dude's fine. What you should be worried about is the CPS people who might take me away from my parents."

Marcus eyes widened in shock. "Wait what? I didn't know of this. Did you?" He asked his brother who just gave him a dry stare.

"Duh! Mum talks about it during dinner sometimes and since I spend more time with her, I tend to know things."

"Damn. Now I feel like the bad friend." He whined. "How is it going man? How are your parents treating you?"

"It's all good Marcus. In fact, they are very accepting of my sexuality now."

"That's awesome." They both said at the same time, which for once, actually made then look like actual twins.

Cole was about to comment on that when he sensed a presence and turned to see Chris Jacob, Shamus right hand or best friend. Maybe even boyfriend?

Cole thought the boy might just walk past them but instead of doing that, he stopped right in front of them. Chris Jacob on his own wasn't exactly scary like Shamus. He was pretty handsome and sometimes looked cute when he wasn't trying to be scary. Although, he still had those empty eyes that looked like he would rather have the three of them dead than in front of him.

And as if they all had the same idea, they moved away from the front of that locker to another and Cole was relieved he didn't follow them and indeed opened his locker.

"That dude is weird." Marcus whispered.

"I wonder who he's going to prom with?" Cole asked curiously.

"Boy's been quiet since Shamus got expelled. Serves him right anyway." Mattew shrugged.

"Aww. Don't you miss this? The three of us being terrible people with each other? I miss it." Marcus sighed then stared at his watch. "Ten more minutes before end of school. We should start going Mattew."

"Yeah. Call you later, Co-"

"Excuse me," Someone said before them and they were shocked to find Chris standing right in front of them again. Well, right in front of Mattew actually and staring at him with weird foreign eyes. Something Cole hadn't seen before. "Excuse me Mattew."

Mattew definitely froze there and like the good brother Marcus was, he stepped up for him. "Hey man, what do you want?"

"Not trouble." His voice was unbelievable deep with an accent and it made Cole realize, he hadn't heard him talk before.

"Then what?"

Chris gave Marcus a look that made him cower back because even though he couldn't do anything to them, he still had that scary aura. "I came for Mattew." He said then looked back at the cute freckled boy who seemed to be back in his right mind.

"W-what do you want?"

"I know this may seem weird but, would you go to prom with me?"

Cole was two seconds from screaming out of shock and it looked like the twins were going through the same thing. However, Mattew managed to calm himself and he said, "What?"

"I said, would you like to go to-"

"I got that part. What I don't understand is the part of you asking me? Forgotten I'm a dude?"

"I know you're into Cole."

Cole couldn't hold it back anymore. "What?! How...How did you know? How did you find out? Was it Sidney?" For obvious reasons, Cole had a feeling it was the bitch that stole Kim's diary.

Chris gave him a puzzled look and said, "I'm sorry but I'm not friends with any of your ex-girlfriends. I just like Mattew and I noticed he liked you. That was why I never approached sooner."

"But-But-"

"Look dude," Mattew cut Cole off saying, "I don't like you. I might not hate you but I definitely wouldn't go to prom with you. I hate your friend Shamus and friends tell a lot about a person."

"I'm not Shamus and what he did," He paused and glanced at Cole before continuing, "I never knew he did that. Never. If I even knew he was into guys, I would have told him I was gay but he was the one being the terrible homophobe and I was scared of him. He's been my friend ever since elementary and yeah he was mean, but he stood up for me a lot then.

"Since he hated what the bullies did to me, he decided to be the bully so no one could bully me. It worked well. I mean, I wasn't beaten when I came here and everyone, well, stayed off my path. It was later on he became violent and he made me do those things which I'm not proud off."

"But you did them." Mattew frowned at him.

"Because I was scared. I knew if I chickened out Shamus would hit me and tell me how weak I was and how if I didn't do, they were just going to do it to me." He rushed on. "Look, I know I've been bad but can't you see things have settled down since he left? His parents even moved away."

"That's bad. You should have followed him away from town then, seeing as you cannot survive without him." Mattew said, sounding pretty pissed off. "You hated being bullied but you were the dude who ducked my head into a toilet twice. I have slight OCD so yes, you can imagine how I suffered the rest of the day. Hell to the no. I'm not going to prom with you." And without another word, he brushed passed him and walked off.

Cole, Marcus and Chris just stood there and watched him walk off because Mattew had never been that mad. And Cole knew when he was quite well.
