An Escape
Kim took him in her busted old truck and Cole was glad when she didn't ask him any question regarding what happened earlier. She just talked about a book she was reading to telling him about her girlfriend who broke up with her.
Cole was too wrapped up in himself to feel really sympathetic about it but he muttered a sorry to her.
"She was cool, but I guess this whole University, college thing got a good hold on her, but whatever right? I'll just find someone else in college hopefully."
Cole didn't even want to talk about college yet because the thought of being in another school far from Cloud was terrifying. "Can we talk about something funny or cheerful? There's too much sad here."
Kim grinned, glancing at him before turning up the radio to Levels by Nick Jonas. They both fell silent and Cole leaned back on the seat and eventually stared at Kim who had her eyes on the road. She had her hair up in a loose bun and wore a long sleeved black cropped top. Loose beige colored pants which she wore with a Champion canvas. She looked a little different from how she had looked when they had first met. Then she looked like a spoilt rich kid but now she looked pretty normal.
"Quit staring at me. It's turning me on." She said suddenly and Cole scowled.
"I thought you were gay?"
"I was kidding, Cole." She laughed then killed the engine making him sit up to see they had stopped moving. "Seriously, what crawled up your butt and died?" She asked as she smiled at him.
He ignored the question and came down from the truck to see an old apartment style building. It had to be far from school because all that he could see were more apartment buildings and small shops.
Cole let her lead the way into the building, going to the back which was tight with more buildings and pulled down the ladder. She glanced down at him when she started up the rusty old ladder, "Would have let you use the elevator but, it broke down this morning." She continued moving up giving Cole the chance to follow her. "That's why I didn't dress all fancy-like."
They got to the first platform before Cole said to her, "I actually thought you lived in a rich fancy house to go with the rich fancy dressing. Guess I was wrong."
Kim chuckled, leading Cole up another platform before knocking on a window. "I don't live here, Cole. I indeed live in a rich fancy house uptown but I've got to go to school and here's closer. My parents even wanted to buy me a fancy house but, nah. The old ghetto ones are pretty homie than the gigantic rich one that made me feel lonely. Besides," Kim knocked again and someone opened the curtain from inside, "I paid rent for the year so I let people looking for a place to sleep in."
Cole nodded and glanced back at the window that was opened by none other than... "Henry?"
"Oh great, you both know each other." Kim smiled before pushing him to pass through the window.
Cole came in and stared at the kid he had met twice now. He looked skinner and extremely dull. His brown hair fell lazily to his face and he wore a white shirt he was obviously swimming in. He looked terrible compared to the two times they had met.
"Oh my god, Henry. What happened to you?" Cole said with concern as he came closer to brush the hair out of his face but Henry stepped back and did it himself, tucking the strands that covered his eyes behind his ear.
"Uh..."
He started but Kim cut him off saying, "His uncle found out he was gay. Told him to pack his things."
"Kim!" He turned to pin her with a glare but she brushed it off as she brought several hair accessories to the living room table.
When she was done, she turned to him and asked, "Did you order the pizza?"
"Yes but why did you tell him about-"
"You would have done it anyway. You're a talker when you are in pain and I just found out Cole isn't when he's in pain. You both should start talking. Maybe you'll help each other out." Then she pointed at Cole when a buzzer rang in the apartment. "Start talking." She added swiftly then left to answer the call.
Henry grunted, cursing quietly before storming to the kitchen in anger.
Cole shrugged and glanced around the apartment. It was nothing big. The sitting room led straight to the kitchen which had the dining room too. There were two doors that could probably be the bed rooms. It was a pretty small place but didn't look as old as someone would expect.
Cole looked back at Henry when he heard a thud and saw him open an ice cream bucket. It was pretty big. He looked up from it and asked, "You want?"
He nodded before walking over to the kitchen, taking a spoon and joining him on the dining. Cole dug his spoon in and sighed in bliss when the cold tasty goodie touched his tongue. It was Vanilla Oreo and God does he love that.
"You like it?" Henry asked, stopping to let Cole take another spoon.
"My favorite. What's yours?"
"Chocolate fudge, but she hates that so whatever." He rolled his eyes apathetically and stabbed the ice cream making Cole wince. "I hate this."
Deciding to stay quiet, he let Henry voice out his annoyance. "I hate this so much. Why can't they, I don't know, not be so hung up on the fact that I'm not like everyone else. There are people out there that are like me and their parents love them. I seriously cannot continue like this. It's so painful to be waking up every day to find my parent spitting at me face or my uncle kicking me out."
"I thought he already knew," Cole asked dryly then took another spoon.
"How can he know? I never told him. I was scared he'd treat me like my parents and I didn't want that at all." He shook his head immediately and added, "And things had been good for me only for my boyfriend to come to his Art studio and shove his tongue down my throat. Seriously, I want to strangle him but I love him too much for that."
"So what happened next? Break up with your boyfriend?"
Henry frowned at him and hit his spoon with his so the ice cream in it fell back to the bucket then said, "Why would I break up with him? He's my very first boyfriend and I love him too much for that." He ran a hand through his hair and stuck out his tongue at Cole when he glared at him for taking his ice cream out of his spoon. "I just told him I'll be out for a while and he won't be able to see me till I get back."
"Sorry." He said as he played with the ice cream in the bucket. Henry had since stopped eating. "In my case, I have a feeling my boyfriend's going to break up with me."
Henry stayed silent like Cole had done when he was ranting and Cole rolled his eyes before continuing, leaning back on the seat. "I kissed my best friend while dating him. He's going to be mad and I hate myself for it. He has been nothing but a wonderful boyfriend and I can't believe I'm the one to ruin it. He even told me he loved me and I still haven't gotten the courage to say it to him."
"Do you love him?" Henry asked Cole the question he been asked over and over again but there was something about this time. He didn't know if it was the guilt but he didn't feel any doubt.
He looked back at Henry and smiled, "Yeah. Yeah I love him."
"Then tell him." Kim suggested as she came in with the pizza. The second she opened it, the two boys rushed for one and she rolled her eyes at them. She turned to Cole who had gone back to his seat and said, "You could just tell him you were figuring out your feelings. I'm sure he knows you are fucked up by now."
"Is that an insult?" He stopped mid bite and gaped at her.
She gave him a droll stare, "I honestly don't know but I suggest telling him what happened. It won't be as bad as you'd expect."
Cole didn't trust her words but he knew she was right. He had to tell him about it unless the guilt was just going to destroy what was left of the relationship.
Kim snapped her fingers to get him back and she said as she loosen her bun and did it again, "So, I rented Avenger: Age of Ultron. Anyone wants to watch?"
Henry nodded happily and Cole followed them to the sitting room with the pizza and ice cream in hand. He ignored his ringing phone as he settled on the floor beside Henry. He needed an escape and here was just the right place for him.
"Can't wait to see Chris Hemsworth in that armor, dammit. I'm sure he's the one who made me so gay." Henry purred and Cole choked on his pizza when he tried to laugh.
"Just shut up Henry." Kim smacked him upside the head and smiled.
