I woke up to my alarm going off. I open my eyes and yawn, noticing the time on my alarm clock. "Crap, it's only six-thirty in the morning. Why do I have to get up so early?" I moan, still feeling groggy. "Sweetie, are you up? You need to get ready for school, Rico's mom will be here to pick you up in two hours." I glance across my room at my calendar to see it says September first: first day of school. "Shit," I mumble to myself. I get up and pass over to my bathroom, scanning myself in the bathroom mirror. A mess, I was; my blonde hair was all tangled, while my tired icy blue eyes stared back at me.

After my shower, I quickly brushed my teeth and went down for breakfast. As I trudged down the stairs, I couldn't help but catch a whiff of the French toast and eggs that must be cooking in the kitchen.

As soon as I got to the kitchen, I plopped down on one of the bar stools at the counter. My mom set a plate of food in front of me, still steaming, and I had no choice but to dig in straight away.

After breakfast, on the walk to school, someone tackled me from behind. I, instinctively, screamed at the top of my lungs. "There's no need to scream bloody murder," I hear a sarcastic but familiar voice say.

I look behind me to see Rico with a bright grin covering his face. "What was that for?" I ask, throwing my hands on my hips.

"That's for not talking to me in a while." He explains, while putting his hands on his hips to mock me.

"We talked last night for two hours." I rolled my eyes at him and continued to walk.

"So? You didn't call me when you woke up, liked you promised." Oh, so that must be what he was talking about; must have slipped my mind. I had to be exhausted, I rarely make promises.

"Sorry," I shrug.

"Well," he pauses, "I don't forgive you." He teases, in a childish voice.

I obviously knew he was playing around. "Fine, I guess I'll go be best friends with the school player then."

"You wouldn't dare,"

"Yeah? Try me." I smirk as I wait for his reaction.

He sighs. "I forgive you, please be my best friend again." He gets on one knee, just as I twirl around signaling that I won.

We we're in front of the schools door, 10 minutes early. I hate school sooo much I usually just sleep unless it's art than I'm WAY into it. "What are you thinking about?" Rico asked me
"Just thinking about how I hate school." I said "Same but I think we both have different reasons." He says "My reason is it's just not fun but art." I respond " I hate school because of Daniel." Rico says looking down, Daniel is the schools player MOST of the girls are all over him, I'm the only one that's not. Rico likes this one nerd girl but she's way into Daniel.

Rico tries to get her attention, by either inviting her to eat with us or study. None of them work she either says she got it or she's going to go eat with Daniel.

"It's weird." I say randomly "What is?" Rico questions "Well I guess you haven't known Daniel since 7th grade but, he used to be nice and focus on sports and school, now all he focuses on are girls." I say with a straight face looking but on the other hand Rico is in shocked of what I just told him.

Before Rico can ask a question the school bell rings telling us to head to our first class luckily both Rico and I have all the same classes but last period. Which is art for me but tech for Rico, on our way to class we tell each other random made up stories about fairies or Princess. We've been doing this since the incident it's what Rico did to cheer me up, it even works when were hanging out.

We walk in our classroom soon as Rico says the final part to his story "Than the Vampire~Witch became the pet to Virgil and Roman, the end." He finishes "You watch to much Thomas Sanders" I proclaim "Your not wrong." Rico says giving me his signature wink, I giggled while going to my seat. In the back of the classroom.

Than our teacher came in, Mr. Snarts
"Hello students, welcome to the first day of High School. Unless this is not your first year here than welcome back." Mr. Snarts says to the class

Ugh, I know the real Mr. Snarts he might seem nice but in reality his not, his just nice when the principle is in the room or the first and last day of school. "Do any of you students have a question before the presentation?" Mr. Snarts ask I than raised my hand

"Ah Ms.Lindsay in my class for another year, what's your questions." He states more than ask "Do you hate kids?" I ask with a straight face "Hate is a strong word" He responds " Ok than, do you dislike kids" I rephrase all the eye turn to Mr. Snarts while he looks for the right words "That's not a very appropriate questions to be asking young lady." He says raising his voice, I turn to my left to see Rico with pleading eyes asking me to stop before I get in trouble. He knows me to well.

"I'm sorry Mr. Snarts it's just you just seem to give an attitude after the first day of school until the last day." I say, he seems taken back from my statement "Ms.Lindsay see me after class." That's the last thing he says before he clicks his mouse for the slides

"Why did you ask that?!" Rico whisper yelled I don't take my eyes off the screen but I still respond "This is my second from last year I want to know to see if I can help him." I say in a small voice about to tear up from the event. "Lisa? Can I please know about the event I'm your best friend I should know." Rico asks me with puppy dog eyes "Fine, this weekend." I sigh "What!" He yells "Mr.End see me after class as well." The teacher speaks up " shit." He says under his breath

The presentation took the while class time which was awesome since some teachers make us do work on the first day of school. I gathered my items along with Rico and went to the desk "Sir I didn't mean to yell I'm really sorry." Rico says really worried

"Your not in trouble Rico, far from it to be honest." Our teacher says Rico than got a dumbfounded face I tried holding in my laughter till we exit the classroom. "Lisa their will be one point in your life where you will act all grumpy at times but only because something sad happened. For example my wife died one year and she was the light of my life." Mr. Snarts says to me looking at his papers folding them neatly "Sir I'm sorry..." I was at lost of words to say to my teacher who I finally understand what happen. "You both may leave, I don't want you two getting late for your next class, we do now." I'm the one dumbfounded now he was just telling us something deep and now is worrying about us being late?! I get out of my dazed state from Rico pulling me out of the classroom.

"You know that explains a lot" Rico says "You tell me so much about him and how he's never happy." He continues "Who's never happy, nerd!" Someone yells across the hall I look forward to see Ray Tylor Lennard "Go away Ray, your not welcomed around us." I say holding my books closer to my chest "Stay out of it, loner!" He yells in my face "Leave her alone Tylor." Rico says grabbing his attention. "What did you say?" Ray says raising an eyebrow anger in his eyes. A crowd of kids have finally formed around us the one that sticks out, out of everyone. Daniel Leon Maverick. Though his not looking at Rico nor Ray but instead his eyes are glued on me. Some girls must of notice because I see them glare at me and put their arms all over him, not accomplishing their goal their though. I finally look back at Rico and Ray to see Rico on the cold tile floor with a black eye and bloody noise and Ray's eyes are on his next target. Me. He starts to walk up to me pulls his sleeve up ready to punch me "You know it's illegal to hit a girl." I saw looking at his eyes with no emotion but instead of a comeback he stops and looks at me confused at what I just said to him "Ray, leave her alone. She was just defending her best friend you just beat up pretty bad." Daniel said stepping in between us. Since when did he care about people getting hurt? All he thinks about is trying to pick girls up to get in bed with him. Gross. "Come on man! She deserves it for getting in the way." Ray says back "Plus she's a bitch in general." That's when he crossed the line, I got in front of Daniel and kicked Ray where the sun doesn't shine "How's that for a bitch?" I scowl back, starting to drag Rico to the nurse.
