Chapter 9: Plan of Action
Nothing much happened for the next few days, in the Nordic house. That is, until Peter went missing.
The day he disappeared, was the day that the others realised just how much they were in danger...
And how much they needed a plan to get Peter back home safe and sound.
----------------------------------------------
Berwald sat on the couch, cradling Tino in his arms. The smaller nation was sobbing, and had been doing so for at least an hour. The other Nordics had come and gone, trying to calm the hysterical Fin to no avail.
The only one that stayed was Berwald, and he couldn't have gone anywhere if he wanted to... which he didn't. Tino had a strong grip on him, and refused to let go.
"Su-san?" The little Fin asked, still crying his eyes out. He took his face away from his friend's chest momentarily to recieve an answer.
"Yes?"
"I-I'm so happy you're here for me."
"That's what friends are for."
With that, the conversation ceased. Each country thinking his own thoughts, breaking up on the inside, destroyed by the disappearance and by their own feelings.
Soon, Tino stopped crying, and fell asleep clutching onto Berwald. The taller nation, picked the smaller one up, and carried him to his room. He set his friend down on the bed, and pulled the covers over him.
Tino mumbled something, but Berwald couldn't hear what he had said, and assumed he was sleep-talking. Walking out of the Fin's room, he closed the door behind him and walked down to the living room.
Why had Peter gone missing? Was the thing in the woods to blame? Should he tell one of the others about whatever it was? So many questions swirled around Berwald's mind as he sat back down on the couch.
Presently, he was joined by Mathias and Lukas who were bickering about where Peter had gone. Emil soon followed, and sat on the edge of the couch looking bored yet sad.
'I'm going to tell them.' Berwald thought, and took a moment to mentally prepare himself.
"I think I know what took Peter." He stated, speaking in a loud voice so they could hear better despite his thick accent.
The others stopped talking, and stared at him with looks of confusion and sadness.
"It was a... thing we saw in the woods." He continued, getting up and leaving to go back to his own room.
After he left, Lukas started thinking about the possibility that Peter was taken by a magical creature. He thought that maybe it could be a demon, but thought better of it. 'No... I need to see it for myself to find out for sure.' The Norwegian thought.
"Hey Norge! Hey! Hey Norgeee! Norgeee!" Mathias exclaimed, waving a hand in front of Lukas' face. Lukas snapped out of it, and gave the Dane a dark glare before knocking him off the couch.
The Norwegian then turned his gaze to Emil, who was about to doze off. "We need to go camping in the woods." Lukas stated, standing up and trudging towards the basement to go get the camping supplies.
"Is he out of his mind?!?" Mathias shouted, crawling back up onto the couch. He looked over at Emil who started walking off in the same direction as his brother.
"Why is no one listening to me?!?!?" Mathias whined loudly after him, but the other nation had already gone.
The Dane ran a hand through his spikey blonde hair. He sighed, and got up, following Emil and Lukas to the basement.
Meanwhile, Tino had awoken and was sitting up in bed. He stared out the window, tears threatening to spill from his eyes as he thought about Peter. After a few moments, he grabbed a blanket and wrapped it around his shoulders. Then he trudged down the hall to Berwald's room.
Berwald was sitting in his windowsill, watching birds flit around in the trees when he heard a knock at the door.
Without waiting for an answer, Tino plodded inside and plopped down next to the Swede. He curled up in a ball, and sniffled a little bit.
"You okay?" Berwald asked, patting him on the back. Tino shook his head, and crawled onto his friend's lap to let out his tears some more.
Tino shook his head and cuddled up to Berwald for comfort.
And there they sat. Sharing each others' company and mutual feeling of sadness.
Down below in the basement was another scene entirely. It had burst into chaos, with Lukas trying to get the camping gear out, Mathias 'attempting' to help, and Emil just sitting on a shelf.
"Holy... Just help me, and stop trying to get my attention dammit!" Lukas shouted at Mathias as the other nation kept talking to him.
"Geez, okay!" The Dane exclaimed, and started pulling out more gear. He whistled a bit while he worked, but that was quickly silenced when Lukas threw a tent stake at him.
Soon, all of the gear was packed up into backpacks, and all that was left to do was get clothes. "Okay guys, go pack a few changes of clothes and i'll go tell the others what's going on." Lukas told Emil and Mathias, before walking off to go find Tino and Berwald.
After he had notified them, he packed up his own things, making sure to bring his magic equipment. He dragged his pack downstairs, and tossed it with the other packs before sitting down nearby.
It took a while, but eventually the rest of the Nordics gathered by the door. Except the animals, since it would be too risky to take Hana and Mr.Puffin.
"Okay guys. We're going to figure out what took Peter, and find him! We can do this, as long as we work together! We can do anything! As a team!" Mathias shouted, before Lukas put a hand over his mouth to shut him up.
"Yeah, basically what he said. Now let's go." The Norwegian said calmly, and walked outside.
It would be a few days before they would all see home again. And whether the mission was successful or not, they would come back changed. If even just a tiny bit, or exponentially....
