Chapter 63

When Yoon Min came outside on the beach, the light chilling breeze forced her to go to the bathroom as soon as possible. The night was still young with a bright crescent moon displayed on the dark sky, its reflection dancing on the waves. She arrived there and entered inside the women's section where there wasn't anyone. She found her shawl left beside the sink thankfully, so she took it and released a sigh of relief.

Her phone rang the exact moment and she smiled shyly to see who it was. Accepting the call, she heard his concern voice speaking,

"Yoon Min-ssi, are you okay? Did you find it?"

A butterfly winked at her from the inside of her stomach as she replied, "Yes, Kang-ssi. I'm heading back now." Saying, she turned around with a giggling face, but her excitement vanished when she saw someone standing behind the closed door.

"Please come back quickly. I'm worried, that's all." Though Kang was speaking non-stop concerning words for her, she was more focused on the bad guy lurking around the women's section, probably there to do something to her. Mentally seeking courage and giving a short reply to Kang before hanging up, she posed bravely by raising her clenched fists forward and slowly, she began to approach the closed doors.

Once she found the right chance and opened the door without delaying, she yelled like the main leads in a movie, preparing for battle. But her yelling caused no fear on the man in front of her, caught in the awkward position as he was eavesdropping her conversation.

Yoon Min widened her eyes and asked, "S-Sir? What on Earth are you doing?"

Seokjin cleared his throat before standing properly and looked everywhere except her eyes. Wow, he got caught sooner than he thought. Thanks to his unskilled moves.

"I-I..." He started to talk. "came to...the bathroom as well."

She furrowed her eyebrows, "Weren't you dining with Ms. Kim in the restaurant? There were lots of better bathrooms there."

He mentally slapped himself for being like this and was about to think of adding something. But she cut him off, "And this is the women's section."

It didn't take her long to realize his real intention of coming here as she gasped not too dramatically and accused him, "You were following me!"

Yes, he was.

"No, I wasn't, Secretary Song. Please don't get ahead of yourself. Why would I ever follow you?" He laughed to make his words look convincing.

Yoon Min closed the door behind her, "Because you've been too interested in ruining my chances with Kang-ssi." Without giving a chance to reply, she walked away from him, with the intention of going back to the restaurant.

Seokjin got offeneded by her words, even though they were true. He ran behind her a little to catch up with her.

"Yah, can't you see this bold attitude of yours ever since you've been meeting that guy?" He shouted a bit for her to hear him as she was only walking faster.

Yoon Min didn't bother to reply to his childish questions.

"Is he that much of a good deal to you? He isn't even that handsome. He looks like those type of men who keeps an innocent face in public, but who knows what's behind the mask? He isn't even rich!" He tried thinking of all the bad qualities of Song Kang to brainwash her.

"In fact, I really do think you guys won't ever look good. He looks like a villain, honestly. Ask Jisoo. She has the same opinion as me."

Yoon Min couldn't endure anymore. She gritted her teeth and turned around swiftly, her hair strands flying in the mild breeze as she frowned, "What is your problem, CEO Kim?"

He stopped a few steps in front of her, gulped down slowly.

"Why do you hate Kang-ssi so much? He's nice, kind, funny and takes care of me. You...you're supposed to be happy for me."

Seokjin was silent, his lips slightly parted and his eyes lidded. A shiver ran down his body by her deep, demanding voice. What was he supposed to say? That he was jealous? He wasn't liking the chemistry between them and he couldn't imagine anyone else with her? What was the right answer? He shouldn't be this upset at the first place but now he's way over his limited lines and facing her with a scared expression.

Yoon Min receiving his silence asked more, "You cannot act like this. This is unacceptable. You aren't jealous, are you?" She chuckled breathlessly and hoped what she said wasn't true.

He didn't reply. His blue eyes were only locked with hers, eyes pleading her to find out his feelings. With a lick on his lower lip, he looked towards the ocean instead of hers and remained cold. Was it wrong to feel jealous?

Upon receiving no answer, she didn't waste time there as she turned back and walked again, this time in her normal speed. She hoped he would return to his senses soon.

But she heard him murmuring, "I am."

Yoon Min stopped in her place. Her ears straightened up as well as her heart.

"It doesn't feel right. You with another guy doesn't fit the puzzle. I feel like...I'm the one who's supposed to protect you, take care of you, make you happy. N-not someone else."

She turned around, her hand gripping the shawl tightly while the other was free. His eyes fell on hers, never looking away from her eyes then. They knew they were stuck in forever, just the two of them.

"I feel like I'm gonna lose my place in your life once you let another man in your heart. You'll forget me and...treasure him. I-I can't let that happen, you are mine. You were always mine, n-not his." Seokjin wasn't messing around with his words. He was being completely honest and he himself didn't know how he was managing to speak out his heart. He was stuttering a lot, as if all the elements of the universe were helping him to do so.

At the mention of those lines, Yoon Min's heart increased its pace, beating louder than bombs inside her chest. Her cheeks flushed bright red, trying to refuse the loud pounding of her heart in her ears.

What was he saying?

He wasn't supposed to talk like that. Did he know that? She tried examining his eyes; they were sentimental and honest. The light of the Moon visible in his eyes. She didn't know what she should react to him. She really didn't know. Running away was the only thing in her mind.

Being speechless, she took a shaky breath, eyes leaving him and she turned around for the final time and walked, walked faster, quicker to leave him alone in the beach. His sensitive voice was ringing inside her head, repeating those same lines over and over again. How could she live the rest of her life, remembering this moment? Why would he play with her emotions, why would he give her false hopes and false signs? Why say something he never meant?

Or did he?

Seokjin watched her walking away from him, leaving her footprints on the sand unaware to her knowledge. He took in a deep, cold breath before murmuring to himself,

"I shouldn't have said that."

--------------

Two days.

Two damn days she avoided him.

She had to. There was no way. It was easy though, thanks to both Jisoo and Song Kang. Jisoo took care of Seokjin all the time, they went on dates almost every hour. And Kang was the reason she wasn't 100% thinking about him all day.

After that night on the beach, Yoon Min only could find herself asking this one question the entire time,

"Does Seokjin like me?"

Every time she thought about this, she would slap her cheek and get back to her senses. He would never like her, never. He was in love with his girlfriend, not her. Then why would he feel jealous? Why wouldn't he want her to be with a good guy like Kang?

The way he stared at her that night, the way his lips left those heart-fluttering words, the way he was truthful...every single second was haunting her. She would feel shivers run down her spines upon remembering that moment. She placed her palm above her chest, right above her calm heart and breathed.

"Is something wrong?" Kang asked her with a hint of concern.

She woke up from her neverending thoughts and turned to him. She almost forgot they were walking on the same beach together.

Nodding her head, she rambled, "Yeah! Y-yeah I'm good, don't worry."

Kang chuckled weakly, "I know we aren't that close to ask you this but, I am a great listener by the way. You can tell me if you want to talk about it."

She looked at his eyes and asked innocently, "Talk about what?"

"Your boss. He's the one you think of, right?"

Yoon Min's mouth fell apart but no sound escaped, only tensed air. She let out a fake laugh and declined instantly, "No! Oh my God, no, no, you're wrong."

Kang smiled a little bit more, pressing the matter more, "Can't blame you though. He's handsome. Surely he's worthy to think of."

"I wasn't thinking of him, Kang-ssi." She sternly corrected him, cleverly lying in the same time.

He didn't argue on that. Instead, he glanced at the ocean and opened up, "Just so you know, I like your boss. He's kinda protective over you, like he doesn't want anything to happen to you. How many of us get a person like that in our life?"

Smiling secretly, she stayed quiet about giving a reply. The amount of care he showed her always had given her those hopes. But she knew better, his care was nothing. The place she wanted in his heart; he will never give it to her. Never.

She sighed and released a sad sigh. Just then, she received a call from someone. Giving a weak smile to Kang, she took out her phone and read the name first.

Jisoo?

She rarely called her. So receiving a call from her was a surprise. Shrugging her shoulders lightly, she took the call and answered respectfully.

Only to hear a heart-shaking news.

"Secretary Song!? Come to the hospital right now! S-seokjin...h-he.. met with an accident..."
