Chapter 61
Yoon Min woke up in the middle of the night not by herself, but by the doorbell of her flat. Getting up from the bed, she only realized she directly went to sleep after coming back from the party without changing her clothes or removing makeup. The surprising part was she hadn't sobbed as much as she guessed she would. She took it as a good sign.
Eyes half-closed, she barely managed to walk to the door stably (she tripped and bumped into furnitures). Letting out a large yawn, she looked at the screen and after her eyesight was clear, she saw none other than Seokjin, the least man she wanted to see now.
Opening the door, the first thing she noticed was his hands being occupied with two soju bottles and a big, happy smile on his face. Wow, it must've been nice for him to spend quality time with his girlfriend. So what brought him here?
"What is it?" Yoon Min covered her mouth with her palm while letting out another yawn. She leaned against the door frame for support and closed her eyes. Mainly she didn't wish to hear him out even one percent.
Seokjin raised the soju bottles to his chin level and sing-songed, "Let's have some drinks!"
"Sir, please be serious. It's way over 12 a.m. I wanna sleep." she refused but still waited for his response.
"Come on, I know you're dying to know what happened. Let me in." Without her permission, he entered inside her flat after forcing himself inside like a total disrespectful guy. Yoon Min very well knew she couldn't say no to her boss, especially the one whose apartment she was living in. Moreover, he was her boss, one impolite behaviour and he could fire her anytime. Scoffing by herself, she slammed the door shut and prepared for his stories.
"And then, she said she was tired so I dropped her home. She suggested to stay the night but I had to take my award home so I came back. And I thought I had to celebrate our reunion so I came straight to you." Seokjin was the only one in the living room, talking and drinking the wine in a glass. Yoon Min sat across him, drinking slightly and nodding her head frequently without paying attention.
He had to celebrate their reunion so he came straight to her? What a jerk...
She had a fake smile on her face as she put her glass down on the coffee table, "Great! Now that you've finished telling me what lovely things you did with Ms. Kim, why don't you leave now so that I can go to sleep?" Others would take her smile as in creepy.
Seokjin answered, "Whoa, what's with the attitude, kid? Aren't you supposed to be awake watching your dramas now?"
Yoon Min was in no mood to argue with him so she sighed and poured more soju in the glass before sipping it bit by bit again. He really acted like a jerk sometimes.
Her heart stopped when she heard him chuckling, "Come on, who's gonna hear me other than you? You're the only person I got in this world."
She didn't know where she got the courage out of nowhere, she glanced at his face before coldly letting out, "Stop saying that."
Seokjin paused pouring in the glass and looked at her, a bit surprised by her tone. She herself was.
"Stop saying those type of things. It doesn't sound right." She looked away and sipped the alcohol slowly. Heart pumping inside with heat producing, she calmed herself down and tried to forget what she just told him. You can't blame her, he kept sweet-talking and acting inappropriately by holding her hand and hugging her when he wasn't supposed to. He made her feel special only to be stabbed in the heart by none other than him. Someone needed to remind him not to play with her feelings.
Seokjin blinked a few times, unable to believe what she just told him. She wasn't acting like herself; she was angry, upset, irritated by his presence. She never behaved like this before. And why did she seem like she was jealous?
But he didn't ask her the reason. She was right, maybe he did cross his limits sometimes which he shouldn't. So he remained silent and sipped his alcohol, turning the situation more awkward.
"Jisoo wants to go to Jeju Island."
Yoon Min looked at him and by this time, she was back to being herself again, to hide her feelings deep inside and be happy for others. She smiled lightly before asking, "That's...a great idea. You both should go on a trip. Should I book your tickets?"
He didn't expect her to be happy suddenly, but he smiled more and replied, "Y-Yeah. I mean, sure. It's been a long time we went on a trip together." He didn't realize he was blushing.
She took out her phone and began preparations for the ticket booking. One of the vital reasons she was excited to send the couple on a trip was because she could spend some time away from him and his confusing signs. She's been into him for too long and now she realized he was never going to be hers, so it's better for her to move on before she changed her mind.
But she didn't know she could never do that.
Seokjin was feeling like flying to the Moon after reconciling with his girlfriend. He seemed to fall in love with her again like the first time he did. The long grudges, bitterness he stored in his heart for Jisoo because of her uncontrollable temper, high attitude and hurtful words; he seemed to be fine with them now. Maybe because he was too happy that for once, Jisoo tried to win his heart instead of him, she came to surprise him at the party and indeed, it was the best surprise of his life.
His foolish, blind love for her was locking his feelings for Yoon Min faraway in his soul. But somehow, there still was a part of his true feelings left behind, and those feelings were urging him to keep staring at her face. Why was she upset? She was always happy for both of them. She always supported their relationship, but why wasn't she smiling genuinely now? Why was she hurting instead of rejoicing? It wasn't like she had feelings for him, right?
Seokjin spent a long, silent time thinking about these questions, and to get the answer, all he knew he had to ask her that.
"Come with us."
Yoon Min shifted her gaze on him. She asked with a blank expression, "What do you mean?"
"You know, to Jeju Island. You should come with us."
She clutched her eyebrows together, lines appearing in her forehead as she crossed her arms over her chest, "Sir, you're getting tipsy. You should go back to your floor."
"No, I'm quite sober, Secretary Song." Seokjin suddenly used his bossy tone. "And when I ask you a question, you answer." Believe me, she could kill anyone to wipe that smirk out of his lips.
Yoon Min protested, her voice coming out as whines, "Are you crazy, CEO Kim? Why would you want me to come with you? This is no business trip!"
"I know. I'm still asking you to come. You should also clear your mind from work for a few days." He sounded like he wanted her good.
"No, to do that, I can watch Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha on my bed with snacks. I don't need to go with you."
She was confident in this. Was he out of his mind? Why would he want her to tag along on his trip with his girlfriend? To see their lovey-dovey things and suffer? Never.
Seokjin licked his lower lip and glared at her, "Secretary Song, this is an order. And when I tell you to do something, you don't reject me."
"Forgive me, CEO Kim, but I'm not going on this trip with you. And there's no way you're making me change my mind." Yoon Min smirked back confidently, imaginary crowd applauding for her answer. Seokjin could never force her to do this, never.
Well, she was wrong.
Currently, all three of them were in a car on the way to the airport; Yoon Min was driving with a poker face and Seokjin, Jisoo sat in the backseat. Her fingers gripped the wheel tightly, taking out her anger on that activity. Let's just say Seokjin did a lot of blackmails to change her mind. She was too kind to ignore them.
To her unaware, Jisoo whispered into her boyfriend's ear, more like asking with gritting teeth,
"Remind me again why she's coming with us."
Of course, Jisoo wasn't happy with the idea.
Seokjin knew she would ask this so he replied straightway,
"Babe, I asked her to come to carry our luggages and stuff. We'll both be busy with each other and someone needs to take care of our reservations, food orders...right?" It was completely a lie. He only wanted her to come because he was scared to leave her alone. He couldn't spend a minute without her anywhere. She gave him courage, support, confidence always. And she never knew that.
Jisoo sighed and replied which sounded like a threat, "I hope this decision of yours won't disappoint me."
"It won't." He kissed the top of her hair before smiling.
Yoon Min wanted to throw up, but she was preparing to get used to these type of scenes. She's gonna have a really nice time in Jeju Island. Really nice time.
---------------
Just how Yoon Min expected.
After they landed on Jeju airport, they drove to their hotel and as their rooms were booked already, all three of them decided to check out their rooms first. Yoon Min had to carry the couple's bags along with her own like a servant and she couldn't even complain. Seokjin and Jisoo took one room for themselves. They were a couple after all, they needed some privacy.
After the couple took some rest, both of them left the hotel to visit the Jungmun Beach to have fun. Yoon Min wasn't even informed, she only got to know after she knocked on their door to give them their travel guidebook. Finding their room empty, she asked around and the employees told her then. Poor her was sad for a while, wondering what she should do here. She couldn't waste this chance though, coming to Jeju Island was one of her bucket list so she might not find an opportunity like this again.
So she decided she will travel alone, without anyone. Seokjin and Jisoo could do whatever they want, she wouldn't stay in her room and cry like a miserable soul just because she had no one to spend time. Like that, she changed her outfit into a summer dress and took a bag as she left the hotel as well.
She made her way to a place called Seopjikoji which offered a 2-km walk with stunning coastal views. Hiking to the lighthouse on the hill at the end of that valley, she enjoyed a stunning view of the sea and the unique rock formations formed against. Canola flowers in full bloom provided her with a unique feeling that would inspire a lifetime of memories. She mostly came here because it was the filming location for several Korean movies.
At one time, when the sun was turning light orange, she trailed her feet on the beautiful, vintage path on the hill. Trying to relieve her mind from negative thoughts, she took calming breaths and looked around the beauties of the place. But constantly, his face was the only beauty inside her mind.
Yoon Min stopped walking and decided to take a break. The path she was currently walking on was simple yet attractive to soothe your heart. Holding to one of the railings made out of ropes, she stared at the sun for quite some time. The sun was always mighty and ferocious in the sky, glaring fire rays at every corner of the world. She wished she could be as strong as that creation.
"What is a pretty girl doing out here alone?"
A manly voice caught her attention, and it was no doubt that voice was talking to her. She glanced to her left and found a male in his 20s beside her; a perfectly shaped face, sharp, beautiful eyes to get lost into, cute nose and light pink lips that were holding a smile. He was tall, way more taller than any guy she ever met and had the most perfect figure, wearing a casual shirt and pants.
Realizing he asked a question earlier, she mindlessly returned to watching the sun before letting out, "I could ask the same."
The man chuckled at her words, almost fascinated by the fact she considered him good-looking at their first meeting. Letting out a peaceful exhale, he leaned on the railing and also looked at the sun in the west sky.
"Why're you looking at the sun?" he asked.
Yoon Min didn't hesitate, considering he's a stranger and she shouldn't easily speak to him like this. But what could be done? Her heart was feeling down ever since yesterday and she needed someone to have by her side. "The sun is alone, but still shines." She let out a breath. "So why can't I?"
Like she expected, he remained silent. She didn't expect him to answer either. He was just some guy hoping to get her number by sweet-talking, that's all. That's what she thought about him.
"Because you aren't the Sun." He suddenly spoke up. Which caused her to look at his face. "You're you, and God up there didn't plan to make you to shine in your hard times." Turning his gaze back to the sun, he kept quiet for some time. "Instead, he wanted you to keep looking at the sun. So that all the shadows of your life fall behind and you don't have to see them. Just like you're doing now."
Yoon Min basically couldn't blink after what he said. Her heart skipped a beat by the beautiful realization and she almost blushed by his silent compliments. For the first time, she reacted such a way to a mere stranger. He saw through her soul so easily when she couldn't.
She smiled, not helping it. She started studying his features and pursed her lips with the thought of realizing how handsome he looked. He could be the most handsome man she ever met in her life, after Seokjin of course. No one could beat him. Wait, why was she thinking about him?
Shaking her head, she let out, "That was a deep thought."
The man beside her smiled shyly, innocent he was to think she was being touched by his impressions. He decided to take things further as he successfully made a nice impression on her.
"Mind asking you your name, Miss?"
She didn't hesitate before replying, not looking at him, "Song Yoon Min."
The man gasped in exclamation, surprised and happy at the same time. "We share the same surname, Yoon Min-ssi."
Yoon Min found his words amusing, childish but she liked it. His excitement over small things did something to her heart and now it wasn't beating like before. She pondered and almost became curious to hear his name.
The man answered, holding out his hand with a genuine smile,
"I'm Song Kang."
