Chapter 6

Yoon Min's classes were over today. She found plenty of time for herself. Usually, she would go back to her room now but it was a surprise she was feeling a bit funky today, not wanting to end her day so soon. So she decided to have a tour around the magical land. The infinite green land up above the purple sky will lead you to nowhere but inside your own imaginary scenarios. She traced her feet on the mild wet grasses and enjoyed the orange sun going home.

She crossed through many green heart-shaped trees which had shining leaves blooming. This land of utmost beauty will cause your broken heart to chill down and make you feel like this was your real home. A satisfying smile made her way to her lips.

Yoon Min promptly sat down on the grass, leaning against a tree's trunk. She almost thought it was a soft pillow. Giggling at her thought, she let out a relaxing sigh before closing her two eyes and let the moving sun fall its last rays on her face.

It was a minute or two when her eyes were opened by a beautiful humming sound. It sounded so pleasing and musical. As if his voice was itself an instrument. Yoon Min straightened her back and scanned the area in order to find the source of humming. Her excited mind had no idea that the voice was coming from the tree. Blinking softly and sharpening her ears, finally, she was able to figure out where the voice was coming from. She turned her back and raised her head to meet the branches.

Unexpectedly, she found a boy laying on the wide strong branch, his arms under his head as a pillow, one of his knees bent. He had no fear of falling from so high. Yoon Min noticed he was the one humming this beautiful song. She took advantage of him and laid down again, enjoyed his humming as the background music.

After a while, his humming came to an end, his voice slowly faded away with the clouds. He was so amazing.

“Hey, nice voice.” she had to give him a little compliment.

The boy opened his eyes and looked down, still remaining in his position. He definitely didn’t look happy to see her as he didn’t know her at the first place and he wasn’t aware of her presence.

“Thanks, Guardian Yoon Min.” he replied back.

It surprised her greatly as she looked back at him again, eyebrows clutching together.

“How did you know my name?”

The boy let out a scoff as if he found her question childish, “You are the talk of the town nowadays. Senior Guardian Kim Seok Jin's favorite student, they say”.

Yoon Min felt herself being a bit unaware of her surroundings. She's the talk of the town? How come she didn’t’t know it? And why? She's his favorite student?!  She laughed sarcastically and laid her back against the soft trunk again.

“Yeah, right...Favorite student, my foot.”

She heard the boy chuckling at her comment. She decided to ignore him for now.

The boy eventually jumped down from the branch and landed right beside her. She looked at him and found herself judging his appearance already. He had a handsome face, not that tall, but looked perfect for a boyfriend material. His eyes were the type to show kindness and gratitude often. And the soft brown hair was puffy like a sheep. She shook herself from these nonsensical thoughts and looked away.

“I'm Guardian Choi Beomgyu, by the way.” he introduced himself after slapping the dust off his pants and sitting right next to her.

Quite friendly.

She gave him a small bow before looking away again.

“Guardian since?” he asked promptly.

She replied without looking, “More than a month.”

“You?” she had a curiosity suddenly.

“Five years. And today marks as six years.” he raised 5 of his fingers and added another from the other hand.

Her mouth opened in surprise as she fully looked at him now, “6 Years??! God, you must be so experienced!”

Beomgyu chuckled faintly and lowered his head, “Yeah, six years without any badges and memories. I must be quite experienced.”

Yoon Min glanced at his white jacket and saw there weren’t any experience badges. He must've not saved any V.I.P souls till now. She bit her bottom lip as she found him sulking and a bit sad.

“It must've been tough. Six years without any memories...”

He didn’t answer her because he didn’t feel the necessity.

“Didn't it bother you? You lived every day saving humans and yet didn’t get a chance to see your past. You don't know why you took your life and how much you went through. This suddenly... you're a guardian who took his life, now has to save others from doing it. Aren't all these too much? We could've just gone to hell. Why Almighty had to recruit us; the souls who had a justified reason to commit suicide, to save others?”

Yoon Min didn’t realize how much time she took to let out her feelings about all these. Turned out, she was a bit uncomfortable about being a guardian. She closed her mouth, realizing she almost blabbered for five minutes without any pause. Slowly she moved her eyes to her right and like she expected, Beomgyu was staring at her with big eyes.

She sighed and looked away.

Beomgyu's eyes landed on a green leaf beside his hand so he took it and twirled it around fast. It was clear the leaf had just fallen from the tree.

He suddenly said, “What if the trees refused to let go of their dead leaves?”

Yoon Min looked at him again, finding his question unique.

“Now see? We are dead already. There is no reason to hold onto our dead past. We will...just look ugly, bad. Just like trees. Imagine, a stubborn tree not letting go of its dried leaves...just think how unnatural it will look then.” his words sounded so wise and true at the same point.

She couldn’t blink hearing the meaning behind his words.

Beomgyu let go of the leaf he was holding. The wind took it along with the other leaves, going to neverland beauty. He let out a soft sigh and looked at the sky before saying,

“Letting go of bad things makes us grow. It makes us strong and more careful than before. If you want to fly in the sky, you have to leave the ground. If you want to move forward, you have to let of the past.  So I did the same. I don't care what I did in my past life. I just want to be happier now and make no such mistakes I did before. That's why, I'm just going with the flow without looking back.”

Yoon Min was beyond speechless, hearing the sound of his mind and the power of his meaning. Never did she think it like this. She was still gaping at him shamelessly.

Beomgyu looked at her and ended up chuckling.

“I must be really experienced.”

She also chuckled softly along with him.

Now that the conversation ended in a good way, silence filled in between them, leaving both of them in their own thoughts what they should say or do for the next minute. Beomgyu glanced at her face again, he could look at her properly this time as she was looking at her other side. He was careful, in case she caught him staring at her, but he indeed found her a rare piece of beauty. The sharp tip of her nose trailed backwards in between the bottom area of her two eyes so perfectly, the pinky cheeks smoothly brushed in light colour, the brown hair falling on her shoulders and a few strands of her forehead, especially her ocean-like eyes and her strawberry colored lips. She looked like every normal girl but more beautiful and brighter than them.

He had lost himself in watching her perfectly structured face with the sound of faint wind behind. His gaze softened and there started an unknown weird sensation in his stomach. Upon realizing a different feeling, he brought himself back to his position, trying to forget the fact how openly he was staring at a stranger. A quite beautiful stranger.

Suddenly, the awkward silence between them came to an end luckily by the sound of a watch beeping. Yoon Min looked back at Beomgyu, her eyes moved to his wrist following the sound. He took a look at his watch and it was beeping.

He sighed, “Well, looks like another human needs me.”

Saying, he got up from his position and brushed his hands loudly before looking at the undescribable sky again. Then he turned back and faced her, his eyes lowered to the bottom as she was still sitting under the tree.

“It was nice to meet you, Guardian Yoon Min. I hope there is a chance for us to become friends.” his charming sense of friendship made her smile widely and nod her head, giving him assurance.

“I hope so too.”

He smiled back, that sweet smile of him is enough for anyone to melt in adoration. Then in front of her eyes, he disappeared into the air, leaving nothing behind. He will come back though. He just went to save another soul.

Yoon Min stood up on her feet and made her way towards their apartment as she thought she spent enough of her free time. She was happy to meet a new friend who was quite wise and handsome. Giggling at her thoughts, she entered the long bridge that connected the school and the apartment chambers.

Until she had to stop as she saw 2 people standing at the end of the bridge, face to face. They were so immersed in talking more like arguing with each other that they didn’t notice Yoon Min. She hid behind a long white pillar and didn’t mean to eavesdrop but had to as she was her friend.

“Look, tell me if there's anything I did wrong.”

“What wrong? No, Jimin Seonbae. You didn’t do anything wrong. I just want you not to follow me around, that's all.” Myeong Jo replied back to Jimin.

He held his hands over his waist and sighed, looking away.

“Senior Guardian, try to understand. I just got here. I need time to settle here. It wasn’t a week when you proposed to me. Imagine, a newbie like me would be so flabbergasted and scared. I mean...I cannot accept you, please.”

Yoon Min wondered why Myeong Jo kept pushing Jimin away. What was wrong with him? He's handsome, popular, kind, sweet, charming. Female guardians fan-girl over him mercilessly. And he liked her. She should be lucky. Why not accept him?

Jimin looked at her with a ray of hope, “If I give you time, will you accept me then?”

Myeong Jo did not answer him. She was so cold-hearted, that's what Yoon Min thought from the distance. If Senior Guardian Jimin would ask her out, she would gladly say Yes. Who can resist this charming guy? Yoon Min was sure Myeong Jo was some sort of robot when she was alive back in earth.

She waited patiently for her friend to answer Yes.

“No.”

Jimin let out a soft chuckle in disappointment. He lowered his head, keeping his displeased eyes.

“Wow, I was sure she would say No.”

Yoon Min nodded and replied, “Right? I mean, Myeong Jo is such a--”

“Bitch?”

“No! More than that! How can she turn him down like that? He likes her so much!” Yoon Min whined as if she was the one who gave birth to Myeong Jo and now was regretting for giving birth to such an unworthy daughter.

“Well, Jimin had a crush on her since the first day she got here. I never knew his crush would grew into fondness.

She sighed, “I wonder what's wrong with Myeong Jo. Why is she playing hard to get?”

“I'm curious too.”

“I'm gonna have to ask her. She better tell m--”

Suddenly Yoon Min tilted her neck to the side, stopping her mouth from whatever she was going to say.

Who is she talking to?
