Chapter 47

There were not enough words in the world to capture the explosions in his body. Seok Jin was stunned as she was hugging him with ease. His mouth fell apart and he felt his heart increasing its pace faster. He stopped breathing in an attempt to lower the sound of his heart because her ear was right above his chest. It would be terrible if she knew it.

He never felt his whole body reacting to a hug this powerfully. Heat took over his face, his arms and his legs, he knew she had an effect on him no one had; an extraordinary one. A hug that could freeze him and warm him at the same time, and make him feel unknown emotions. He remained unmoved though a little part of his soul wanted to hug her too.

He heard her whispering in a soft voice, “T-Thank you. You saved me though I'm no one and that's why I'm beyond grateful to your kindness. Thank you so much.”

Yoon Min pulled away as soon as she said those words and smiled gratefully.

“No one ever backed me up or took my side or consoled me every time I was left alone and hurt since I remember. You are the first person who protected me when Ms. Seo was hitting me and took my side when she was scolding me. I never knew how it felt to have someone to trust until I met you. I know we haven’t known each other a lot or spent a good amount of time; but I can never thank you enough for what you've done for me and the children.” she didn’t stutter at all.

Her kind words warmed his heart and he found himself listening to her attentively. Of course who wouldn’t like to hear compliments about themselves?

“I've told you this before, but thank you for helping the kids and protecting me when I needed it. You're indeed a good person, Seok Jin-ssi. I hope you know that.”

He had been praised highly by the whole world for great achievements but her sincere words that came from her heart couldn’t beat them. She meant every single word and he was happy that he could be someone she trusted. He only did something people should've done for her long ago. She deserved this much at least.

As being born with a weak heart and being abandoned by her own parents, she was already done wrong. She never should've lived another poor life when her parents were filthy rich. When having a heart that barely helped her to breathe, she was being mistreated by adults who were supposed to make her strong and ready for the world. People who were supposed to take care of her abused her mercilessly. Along with children who were supposed to be friends with her and stick by her side, they mocked her and treated her like an inhuman. Growing up alone with no parents, no friends, no love, no care, no support was torturous. But she still managed to be a responsible girl and raised the children like her own. She hid her pain behind her smile and watched over them so that unlike her, they could spend a happy childhood.

And now, she had only three days in her hands to find a place for her own and struggle to live a life where she couldn’t even afford her own meal. With her being sick and unprepared for the future, it was no doubt she might feel dead while fighting to live for the next day.

She didn’t deserve it.

No one did.

Seok Jin blinked to return to the reality as he blurted out unexpectedly, “Do you want to come with me?”

It was only a second of silence before Yoon Min faced his eyes and her smile faded away. He didn’t like the reaction she had.

“W-what?”

Jin was only being concerned. If it was for someone else, he would've done the same for him/her too. Frankly, she wasn’t anyone special to him, was she?

“You need to find a place to live. I'll take all of your responsibly so all you have to say is Yes.”

Yoon Min was still shocked by his offer. She didn’t take his words in a good way. His approach was kind of scaring her. As if he was indirectly telling her to start a thing with him, just like Ms. Seo told her not long ago.

It took a minute for Seok Jin to understand her reaction.

He widened his eyes and immediately tried to explain, “Hold on, if you're thinking something inappropriate, I've no intention to do anything with you. I only--”

Before he could finish, she suddenly turned back and walked out of the kitchen.

Jin didn’t see that coming so blinking to get a hold of everything, he ran after her to break the misunderstanding.

“Yoon Min, wait! What do you take me for?”

She didn’t answer him as she was walking fiercely in a speed.

“Are you actually thinking I'm trying to be a Sugar Daddy? I've a girlfriend for God's sake!” He yelled behind her.

She stopped suddenly and flung towards him, “Then why?”

Jin halted his steps too and stood like a dumbfounded kid who didn’t know the answer of a simple math question.

“What am I? I'm nothing to you so why do you want to take me? You have no reason to do that. You know I'll just be a burden.” she sounded heavy and hoarse.

“I'm just trying to help--”

“You've done enough for me, okay? Already I don't know how will I repay you for everything, so please do not talk nonsense like that.” she started to walk away again.

Jin sighed and rushed after her, “Hey, can we please talk without running?”

No answer.

Thanks to his long legs, he rolled his eyes and took a few long steps and finally caught up to her. He grabbed her wrist and turned her around, leaving her surprised.

She was gonna exclaim but he beat her, “Hear me out first.”

“The only reason I'm trying to help you is because you don't deserve all these, okay? Nobody does. When I first arrived here, I wasn’t supposed to follow Heesung and Sunoo. But I did and I ended up with a bruise on my forehead. Then I met you. You impressed me by your character and sacrifices for the younger ones, you told me something I never got to hear from anyone. Knowing more about you made me pity you and I couldn’t help but to think of you all day.”

“Look, you know I've been alone most of my life. My mother's practically on her death bed and my girlfriend barely has time for herself. I really worked hard and tortured myself to reach where I am today. Now that Almighty has given me opportunities to help people, why should I waste it? I liked being with you, talking you, playing with the kids, be their brother, spending time here. I feel like being with a family when I'm here. Can't I show my gratitude to you all? When you and those kids deserve more than you have?”

Yoon Min blinked slowly, unable to believe those words he just said. Her whole body felt jiggly and heat took over her face.

Why did he have to strike her heart like this?

He licked his lips before continuing, “If you're thinking I'm trying use you like Ms. Seo said, you're wrong. I've absolute no intention to hurt you or betray your trust. I'm honestly worried for you so I'm trying to help you have a better life. There's a whole lot of world you're yet to experience and I know you'll love it. There are cute dresses, delicious foods, beautiful places, lovely people, and a grand place of books what we call Library.” he was tempting her by mentioning books. And it was working. Her eyes seemed curious.

“I'll take care of you. You'll live close to me, you'll find interesting activities, you'll make friends, you'll get a job and start to live on your own. Doesn’t sound nice?”

When she still didn’t seem satisfied, he sighed and looked into her eyes, “Trust me, can you do that? I'm willing to take care of you from the bottom of my heart.”

Yoon Min shivered under his gaze. He could make her tremble out of ecstasy and make her feel so many unnamed emotions.

She understood his pure intention to help her. But she didn’t want him to. She was nothing but a sick burden. What if she would cause him more trouble? What if her agreement would take them to a horrifying future? What if one day he would regret for taking her with him?

After all, they share a faraway relationship. A bond with no lawful name.

Her lips quivered and she looked down in sorrow. A soft whisper left her mouth, “Even though I-I have a weak h-heart?”

If there was something severely wrong with her, it was her heart. That goddamn heart which disappointed so many parents and herself. The most important organ that was supposed to help her to live, instead made her suffer painfully. Maybe reminding him that she's sick seriously might change his mind.

But he didn’t give up. He gave her the softest smile and nodded.

Yoon Min sighed deeply and pulled her wrist out from his grip. There was gotta be someway to make him disagree.

She shook her head, “I can't leave the kids. They need me.”

Hopefully, she thought it might change his mind.

Jin's eyebrows arched together as he crossed his arms. With a disappointing look, he told her,

“Why is it that you are the only person who's denying my kind offer? Most people wouldn't even let me finish before they would agree to live with me.”

She blinked to clear what his words meant. But she had no idea. All she wanted was to convince him not to take her with him because she feared he might regret one day, and she didn't want to see that day.

Yoon Min opened her mouth to say something but Jin already cut her,

“You trying to change my mind is actually making me not change my mind. I want to tell you if you really want to get out of here, I'm the only chance. I will never see you as a burden or regret for taking you, so I hope you consider my offer and agree to come with me.”

She refused again, “Please try to understand, I cannot let you--”

He didn't give her a chance, “You have one day.”

She tried to reason out but he already turned around with a cheesy smile on his lips and started to walk away from her.

Yoon Min was baffled by his action. How could he walk out leaving a big decision on her shoulders? That too in one day?!

What will she do?
