Chapter 28
Her lips curved up into a little smile, seeing another survivor realizing his mistake and letting go of the knife he was holding.
Yoon Min was certain Choi Woo Sik won't think of suicide anymore. He realized life might take away his most prized possession but that didn’t mean he should follow it to eternal darkness as well.
She watched him sobbing; sad over the fact his son died. When the links of life are broken and a child has to part, there is nothing that will ever heal a broken parent's heart. Choi Woo Sik was going to take his life too, thinking he might meet his son in the afterlife. But thanks to her, he didn’t get to commit a dangerous act.
Slowly, Yoon Min backed away and left his abandoned house as he spent the rest of his day crying and grieving for his only son. Coming out of the house, she released a long breath she was holding. Eventually, she closed her eyes and again, those unwanted thoughts and questions about him filled her mind.
What is the difference between caring for someone and loving someone? Thinking deeply, they are not the same at all. Caring can be felt by anyone even towards those whom you do not personally know while love can only be felt towards a special person. Care can be understood as concern, interest or even a liking that is displayed towards someone. Caring for someone is more of a friendly behaviour. While love is a feeling that you cannot forget. If you love someone, you want to be with them and you want to be an important part of their lives. It is usually involuntary. You are naturally attracted to him/her without any reason.
Then what was Seokjin doing to her?
He cared for her. She always knew he cared for her as her senior. Then why did he confuse her that night?
Yoon Min practically was filled with questions that had no answers. She didn’t know how she should consider him now. As much as she was beyond happy that he took a beautiful step closer to her heart, she was also worried if she was the one expecting everything. Just pretend everything was fine because it was just a kiss on the forehead or try to know the meaning behind that act? No matter what answer she got, all she knew was maybe Seokjin and she won't be getting along like before anymore.
Getting a forhead kiss from your senior...was it normal?
She opened her eyes and gave a short slap on her forehead. “Stop thinking about him, Song Yoon Min.” she warned herself.
Shaking her head, she touched her watch to leave for the universe. But when she opened her eyes, she wasn’t in the universe. She was still back in Earth. Odd...
“What the--” she touched her watch again. It didn’t work. She touched it again and again. Even punched it aggressively. But it was no use.
“Why isn’t it working?! What happened?!” she began panicking now. She gritted her teeth and hit on the watch forcefully. But no matter how hard she tried, she was still stuck in Earth. Fear consumed her whole body as her knees began trembling with the most terrifying thoughts.
Oh no....
------------
Seokjin was in the library as usual. He finished three books today and now he was on his fourth. He tried to engage his mind in books because he couldn’t stop thinking what he did to her that night. Imagining that whole moment again made him gulp down nervously. Why the hell did he do that?
His fingers tightened with each other as he forced himself to read the book. But her face kept flashing in front of his eyes. She didn’t like it, right? As far as he knew her, Yoon Min wasn’t the type of person who liked illegal skinships. She's been avoiding him in every way as possible since that night. And that wicked Beomgyu was helping her. He bet she already told him what happened.
“Aish, I can't believe myself.” he yelled in frustration, shut the book and rested his head on the table. He didn’t want her to be mad at him. It made him feel helpless.
That's when, Ella and Daisy entered the library, giggling like high school girls. Both of then sealed their mouths, seeing him in a not-so-happy position.
Keeping quiet, they were about to go to the opposite direction when Seokjin raised his head and called one of them,
“Fairy Ella.”
She stopped and looked at him, surprised. “Yes, Sir?”
“Where is Guardian Yoon Min? I want to talk to her.”
Daisy gave him a “duh” look and bickered, “Are fairies supposed to keep information about their guardians all the time? That's torturing.”
He glanced at his own fairy and gave a mocking smile, “Of course, you wouldn’t care even if I die, right?”
She nodded, pride written in her face.
Sighing, he looked back at Ella who was stuttering with her words, “I-I..uh...Miss is...umm...she..well--”
“You don't have to tell me if she forbade you too. She forbade all her friends to tell anything about her to me. I guess she told you as well.” he said with a light scoff.
Daisy finding the right second teased him, “Aigoo, my Sir sucks at winning women's hearts.” she chuckled like a villain.
He gave her a death glare which encouraged her more to chuckle evilly.
Ella then said, “Miss must be somewhere in the school. I'll inform you once I find her.”
“Thank you, Fairy Ella. You know how to please people unlike my enemy Daisy.” Seokjin huffed before getting up from his place and left the library, thinking how to apologize to her again.
------------
“Hyung, you know where Guardian Yoon Min is?” Jimin peaked his head inside his office.
Seokjin lifted his reading glasses and eyed him, “Would I be here if I knew her location?”
“So that's a no?” Hearing Jimin's silly question, he sighed and went back to reading.
Jimin entered inside with a bunch of documents in his arms. He stood in front of his desk and whined, “I need to give her these. I've been looking for her everywhere. Her fairy doesn’t know either.”
Seokjin looked at him again, this time with concern and worries, “You can't find her?”
“Apparently, her fairy said she had gone to Earth 6-7 hours ago and that was the last time she saw her.”
He took his glasses off, stood up fast; still maintaining the eye contact with his friend. His whole face was worried and fright ran through his veins. “Jimin, shouldn’t we do something?”
Without hearing his reply, Seokjin went straight out of his office and ran off to somewhere. Jimin had to follow him since he was unaware of what to do.
“Where is Yoon Min?” Seokjin attacked Beomgyu with this question.
He seemed surprised as he put his drink down and stood up from his place. “W-what about h-her?” he himself didn’t see her all day so he became slightly confused.
Jimin told him everything while Seokjin ran off to find someone else. Hearing about her absence, Beomgyu's facial expression changed slowly to a scared one. Did something happen to her?
Seokjin found Ella nearby and caught hold of her, “Fairy Ella, you said Yoon Min went to Earth many hours ago. You haven’t seen her since then?”
Ella was startled for suddenly being questioned so she was unable to answer properly, “Y-yes.”
He sighed in frustration and let out a worried gasp as his arms reached his waist, his pupils moved quickly everywhere in anxiety.
“W-why, did something happen to Miss?” Ella whimpered, tears appeared in her eyes.
“What happened?” Beomgyu appeared, gasping for air since he ran fast.
Seokjin looked at him and answered, “I think she's still back in Earth."
“Earth? Why? Guardians aren't supposed to stay there without serving humans. Why is she there instead of returning to the universe?” he shot questions at a time.
“I fear something is stopping her from returning.” saying, Seokjin took large steps to the left, going somewhere as if he knew what to do.
Beomgyu and Ella followed him since both were worried as hell for her.
Secretary Baekhyun was the person he needed. He barged inside his office, causing Baekhyun to choke on his hot coffee. “Aish, you startled me, Seokjin.”
He banged his fists on the desk, “Something happened to Song Yoon Min. She isn’t back for 7 hours.”
Baekhyun widened his eyes in surprise. He was speechless about the sudden information. “I-I--”
“You are monitoring every residents' location, right? Find hers and tell me where she is.” Seokjin was in the exact mood Baekhyun feared always.
He sighed and put down his coffee, “I need to talk to Prin--”
“GODDAMN IT SHE IS ALL ALONE IN EARTH AND YOU ARE WASTING TIME! GOD KNOWS HOW SHE MUST BE FEELING! SO JUST DO WHAT I SAY BEFORE SOMETHING HAPPENS TO HER!”
Baekhyun needed no more words. His spines shivered due to Seokjin's extreme mad yelling. He began checking the monitor like he said.
The others came inside as well. Beomgyu was surprised by Seokjin doing well for her return. He knew what to do in what situation. Meanwhile, he didn’t even know the girl he likes was missing.
Baekhyun checked the monitor throughly, not missing a single location. After some time passed with him working hard, he mumbled something strange, “Hold on...I can't seem to find her location.”
Seokjin glanced at him. He went around his desk to look at the monitor himself. Baekhyun was right. There was nothing about her whereabouts. His body fell into an endless hole of horror, thousands of thoughts ran through his mind.
Baekhyun muttered, “The monitor is supposed to track her watch. If nothing is showing here--”
“Then something must be wrong with her watch.” Beomgyu finished the sentence and he was shocked.
Seokjin looked at Ella whose cheeks were already wet with tears for her guardian. “Fairy Ella, do you know what Yoon Min said before going to Earth? Anything about her location or the human she was gonna save?” he asked with every ounce of hope inside his chest.
Unexpectedly and fortunately, she nodded and gagged on her words since she was crying, “M-miss said she was trying to save this human for three days. Soul Choi Woo Sik, a 49 year old man who lost his son in an accident. He's a farmer.”
Beomgyu's eyes lit up with hope, “Great! He's in South Korea! We just need to check all villages. She must be around somewhere.”
Seokjin nodded and immediately was gonna touch his watch to teleport but Baekhyun held his wrist to stop.
“Seok Jin, you cannot go to Earth without the princess's permission. No guardian is allowed to visit Earth except to serve a human. No, I won’t let you.”
“Then Tell Princess Aereum that Song Yoon Min cannot come back to the universe! We need to go down to bring her back!” Beomgyu shouted at the secretary.
Seokjin removed his grip from his wrist and looked directly at his eyes, “I doubt Princess Aereum will stop me.” his serious voice sent goosebumps to Baekhyun who gulped down.
Without wasting another second, Seokjin disappeared from their sight as he went to the Earth to find her.
Beomgyu also was about to touch his watch when Baekhyun stopped him this time, “No, Guardian Beomgyu! Not you! You absolutely cannot go!”
“Ah, why not?!” his voice sounded desperate.
“I cannot let you go until Princess Aereum permits us. Let's go tell everything to her first.” Baekhyun grabbed his arm and tried to drag him with him.
But he was protesting, “Who cares? Yoon Min is alone there! I need to go too!”
“Senior Guardian Seok Jin already went there and he broke a rule. I cannot let another guardian break a rule and have me lose my job. Please calm down and follow me.”
No matter how Beomgyu fought back or protested, at the end he failed to go down on Earth. He was ashamed, mad at himself for not being worthy of Yoon Min, for not being able to take care of her, for not being able to make her heart flutter. Cursing at himself, he just hoped she was alright and Seokjin brought her back safely.
