~Chapter 6~
As I returned to the table, a heavy silence descended upon the room.
"I'll agree to the marriage," I announced slowly, my parents' faces lighting up with joy. "But I have one condition."
"What is it, dear?" My mother inquired eagerly.
"I don't want to be pressured into taking over Dad's CEO position at the office," I stated firmly. My parents had been pushing me towards this, but it wasn't what I wanted. I've always dreamed of becoming a kindergarten teacher, not running a company. I love children, and that's where my passion lies.
"But—" My mother began to protest before my father intervened.
"Alright, we'll honor your wish. Thank you for stepping up to help our company," he said gratefully, and I simply nodded in response.
As they continued discussing business and wedding plans, I sank back into my seat, contemplating the turn my life was taking.
Eventually, the meeting came to an end, and it was time to leave. I bid farewell to my soon-to-be in-laws and husband-to-be, feeling the weight of those titles settling uneasily on my shoulders.
The ride home was quiet, the only sound being the music on the radio. I gazed out at the illuminated streets, finding solace in the quiet beauty of the night.
Arriving home, I made a beeline for my bedroom, craving solitude. After a long, hot bath, I lay down on my bed, replaying the events of the evening in my mind.
I was getting married, and to Julian of all people. I couldn't shake the feeling of dislike I held towards him, but our recent conversation had stirred something within me. Despite my reservations, I couldn't deny that he seemed kind, and his concern felt genuine. Or was it just an act?
My thoughts swirled around in my mind until exhaustion finally claimed me. Drifting off to sleep, I hoped for clarity in the morning, knowing that my life was about to change in ways I couldn't yet comprehend.
