Chapter 16. Mission 101: Begins

Under the hotness of the day yet darkness of the night, as always, Khaotung's office was shining bright like a star. The small office had almost always been the center of attention in Bangkok. Though people never dared to approach the man inside, they would be glaring at the office up and down from outside.

Khaotung sat on the chair beside his desk and held a phone to his right ear tightly. "First, what do you know about Aon? Was there anything at all that we could use as evidence?" Khao asked the other side.

First replied in a worried yet nonexistent tone, "I really don't know this new Aon," He said and sighed through the phone.

"You're a witness... But I'm afraid that's not enough, especially when you're one of the suspects," Khaotung muttered and sighed back as he leaned his head on the chair, bringing his left hand forward and attaching it to his forehead as if thinking deeply.

"I do have a few clues about the similarities between the victims," First answered and he could hear Khao almost jumping off of his chair.

"Such as?" Khaotung asked back, sitting up straight and imagining as if First was sitting right across him.

"All the victim's names start with J or P and they're all really rich," First answered. That was not right. Maybe he wanted money from the people but... what did it have to do with their names?

Khaotung slowly nodded and wrote those down. It had been three months already since he took the case but Aon really was smart. There was little to no way for Khao to catch him.

"J or P... rich... First, you're not lying, are you? Are you sure you don't have any other clues? The murders were done in front of you...," Khaotung asked once he was done writing. He believed in First but he could also understand that there was still a part of First that was scared, scared that things would change.

First stayed silent for a few seconds and then Khaotung heard a notification pop up from his Line account. He opened the message to find an audio recording from First. "First, what is this?" He asked but First didn't respond.

Eager yet concerned, he played the recording. "Please let me go..." It was First who yelled. Suddenly, there was a loud bam sound. "I won't." An unknown voice yelled back. Khaotung assumed it was Aon.

"Stop moving or you won't see this man in front of you again," Aon muttered loudly. After that, there was silence, but little sounds could be heard.

The recording ended and after Khaotung put it down, another notification popped up from First. This time, it was a photo. It was a photo of a piece of paper where it was written. "If you dare tell anyone about this, everyone will be dead including you."

"First?" After seeing the photo, Khaotung had understood that First somehow was still scared of what was happening.

"Hm?" But this time, First had responded finally, resulting in a sigh of relief from Khaotung.

"Is there any other clues you have? I trust you na." Khaotung asked calmly and sat straight on his chair.

A clear gulp was heard from the other side. "I don't. These are all but..." First paused, hesitating if he should say it or not.

"But what?" Khaotung asked, immediate panic evident in his voice. First had been talking differently. Was there more he was hiding?

"Tung..." First paused. "What's your secretary's name?" He suddenly asked, leaving Khao slightly confused. Yet Khao answered him.

"Jack. Why..." Before he could continue to doubt, First interrupted and asked again,

"Is he rich?"

"Yes..." Khao finally understood what he was implying. Jack... Could he be the next target?

"I need to tell you this, Tung... Jack had been coming to my bar... secretly," First explained, leaving Khao in awe. There were a few hints but that was indeed unexpected.

He needed to think of something with a quick wit. But he couldn't just let his secretary be, knowing he might be in danger. "Wait... First, I'm putting you on hold. I need to call Jack," Khaotung muttered and put First's line on hold while calling Jack.

"Pick up..." Khaotung mumbled by himself in panic but the other side didn't. He called again and finally the phone got picked up.

"Hello? Jack?" Khaotung yelled out but no response came from the other side.

It certainly was raining outside but since Khaotung was inside his office he couldn't assume how heavy it was. But on the other side of the phone could only be heard heavy rain sounds with fading screams which indicated that Jack was outside and that's all. It went on and on for a few seconds before the call got cut by the other side.

Khaotung had understood that wherever Jack was, he was not safe. But...

Fuck it. He needed to save him first. That man should have discussed it with Khaotung before starting to do anything. Khaotung knew Jack well enough to know that he'd try to risk things just to find out more. But he could have at least told Khao about it. If only he was more patient, that wouldn't have happened.

Khaotung went back to First on the call but surprisingly when he called First's name multiple times, there was no sound from there either. The only sounds that could be heard were of crickets and light rain drops. That meant...

Khaotung's eyes widened in horror, the one thing he desperately wanted to ignore was happening. "Oh no..." He murmured. He had understood that whatever was going to happen was not going to be good. He needed to look for both of them. Jack and First which he knew were now in Aon's possession but... where should he look? What should he do?

To Be Continued.....

A/n: Both First and Jack are under Aon's influence now... What do you think? Will Khao be able to save them?
