Twenty Two ✝️

(Josh's pov)

We got home from church an hour later. Tyler went over to his holy water font and started sprinkling me with holy water.

"What is that for?" I asked.

"For you?" He replied. "I want you to feel like your a part of my blessed family."

I smiled when he finished sprinkling me. I put my arms around him and hugged him.

"Oh Tyler. How I wish we can be more than friends."

"What?" Tyler's mom asked; entering the living room. I quickly took my arms off him before she could see.

"What did you say?"

"Oh, I was just-"

"We were just talking." Tyler told her. "No worries."

"My, you had my scared there."

"You don't need to be sacred mother. It's all good."

"Alright."

After she went back into the kitchen, Tyler took my hand and we both ran upstairs to his room; quickly shutting the door. We were both relieved.

"That was close one." I said.

"Yeah." Tyler added. "I know."

"I didn't mean it though, when I said that I wanted us to be more than friends."

"You better not mean it." He said. "Because my mother hates homosexuals. She says they will never make it out of purgatory if they choose that life."

"I know. I understand."

Hearing him say those words hurt me more than my own mom hating me for not trying hard enough. Tyler doesn't love me, not even an inch.

(Tyler's pov)

I do love Josh, but only as a friend. If my parents found out I became a homosexual, they would force me to confess in front of the whole church. They would all curse me if I chose that life style.

I might as well save myself from it by not trying to fall in love with Josh. If he loves me that way, that's fine, but I don't.

I saw how sad Josh was, so I put his arms around him this time.

"It's okay Josh." I told him. "I have Catholic friends who feel that way sometimes."

"Really?" He asked.

"Yeah. My friend Hayley likes a girl from our Life Teen classes."

"She likes a girl?"

"Yeah, but she has to keep it a secret, or else the church will throw her out and curse her to hell."

"My goodness. That's terrible!"

"It is. That's why God does not approve of us being gay. And I know you'll find someone who truly loves you very soon."

Josh turned away from me.

"I hope."

"Just pray." I told him. "Our blessed Mother Mary will give you the right girl just for you."

I gave Josh a big hug.

"I promise."
