Twenty Seven ✝️
(Tyler's pov)
Josh was coming tonight! I got so excited that I started cleaning my room, even my bedroom altar. I started dusting my walls and every bit of my shelves.
Once I was done, I kneeled before my altar and dedicated some time for prayer, but before I could start, my brother Zack walked in.
"Hey Tyler, what's with all the noise?"
"I was just cleaning." I told him.
"Jeez, I've never heard someone clean that loud."
"Mother is worse."
"Now I don't think mother can clean that loud."
"Look, it's just that Josh is coming back over tonight and I want to do something special for him that no Catholic has ever done before."
"Sounds interesting."
"Yeah, and I want to be perfect, so can you go ahead and leave so I can prepare?"
Zack nodded.
"Of course Ty."
He closed the door. I sighed and started to pray.
"Dear and sweet Mother Mary, keep your holy hand upon me; guard my mind, my heart and my senses, that I may never commit sin. Sanctify my thoughts, affections, words and actions, so that I may please you and your Jesus, my God, and reach heaven with you. Jesus and Mary, give me your holy blessing; In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen."
I stood up and faced my two blessed pictures of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. My most precious things in my life, the hearts that keep me safe. I pray they guide me to give Josh the love and courage he needs to become a Catholic.
(Josh's pov)
I arrived at Tyler's house around 7:30. It seemed a little late but I didn't mind. When I knocked on the door, Tyler's mom answered.
"Hello Josh!"
"Hello Mrs. Joseph."
"What are you doing here so late?"
"Tyler wanted me to come over tonight, and I have something special I want to tell him."
"Well please, come in."
I walked into front room of the house, and that's when I saw Tyler come downstairs.
"Hi Josh."
"Hey Ty."
"Tyler, why would you want Josh here so late?" His mother asked.
"It's special mother." He told her. "I want it to be perfect for him and I."
His mother was confused. She looked at the both of us before she could try to understand what was going on.
"I see."
She started walking into the living room.
"Have fun with that."
Once she left, Tyler and I exchanged giggles and laughs.
"I hope she doesn't think that wrong thing." I told him.
"She won't." Tyler replied. "Let's just hope she doesn't ever find out."
Tyler took my hand.
"Let's go."
Together, him and I walked upstairs to his room.
(Tyler's pov)
As I brought Josh into my bedroom, I told him to sit down on the carpet.
"What are you doing?" He asked.
"It's a surprise."
"Okay, but I want to tell you something special."
"After we do my special thing first."
He smiled and got excited, even though he didn't know what I was doing.
I placed a big pillow on the floor in front of Josh, then got out a black box and placed it on the pillow.
After that, I sat across from him on the carpet.
"What is this?" He asked.
I started opening the box.
"You'll see."
I opened the box and took out a piece of wafer and a small cup with a bottle of wine.
"What is all this?"
"I'm giving you your first communion."
"Really?"
"Yeah! Why not?"
I poured the wine into the small cup, then added a few drops of holy water into it.
"For luck." I told him.
I placed my hands into his hands and began to pray.
"We do not presume to come to this thy table, O merciful Lord, trusting in your own righteousness, but in thy manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under thy table. But thou art the same Lord whose property is always to have mercy. Grant us therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of thy dear Son Jesus Christ, and to drink his blood, that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us."
"Amen."
I put the wafer in my hands and raised it in the air.
"The body of our Lord Jesus Christ keep you in everlasting life."
"Amen."
I placed the wafer in his mouth.
Then I put the cup in my hands and raised it in the air.
"The blood of our Lord Jesus Christ keep you in everlasting life."
"Amen."
I poured the cup of wine into his mouth.
Once this was done, I placed my hands in his hands and prayed once again.
"Jesus, no words can express our gratitude and amazement that you should die for us. How amazing is it that each of our lives is so valuable to you that you would lay yours down to reach us. May the bread and wine remain with us as we seek to take your message of love and grace into the world. Amen."
Josh opened his eyes and saw me.
"Tyler, I feel Jesus has touched my heart."
"Now you have received Christ's body and blood."
Josh embraced me.
"Thank you Tyler. Thank you so much!"
I smiled as we hugged.
"Your welcome."
