Fourteen ✝️
(Josh's pov)
I arrived home just in time to see my mom and my younger siblings hanging out in the living room. When they saw me, they were surprised at my current mood. It seemed to disturb them.
"You're home." My mom said. "How did it go?"
"It went holy."
"Holy?"
"Yes mom."
Abby, my little sister, scoffed at my answer.
"Lies."
"Why should we believe you've changed?" My brother Jordan added.
"Because I know what I've done wrong to make you guys hate me, but I'm changing."
"Prove it." Ashley demanded.
I went over to our holy water font and placed my two fingers into it. From there, I did the sign of the cross just like how Tyler showed me.
"In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."
When I did it, my siblings weren't satisfied. Even my mom wasn't pleased.
"You did well, but not well enough."
"What do you mean?"
"You have more to learn, and I don't know how you learned that but that was impressive, but I expect more from you."
Her answer infuriated me.
"If you think you can keep on hating me for not trying hard enough, then I hope your soul rots in purgatory forever!"
I ran upstairs, angered. My mom was shocked and horrified at what I had told her. Even my siblings were shocked as well.
I ran into my room and shut the door, causing my crucifix to accidentally fall to the floor, luckily it didn't break.
I don't care. If it broke, so be it.
I couldn't believe that the sign of the cross didn't prove to my family that I was trying to be a good Catholic. I should forget about trying and go back to being a stupid bitch.
Immediately, I thought about my favorite song that every atheist should love. I went over to my CD player and started playing it.
(Start the song now)
You, you love it how I move you
You love it how I touch you
My one, when all is said and done
You'll believe God is a woman
And I, I feel after midnight
A feelin that you can't fight
My one, it lingers when we're done
You'll believe God is a woman
I started dancing around my room and making as much noise as I could. It caused my mom to come upstairs and slam my door open in anger.
"What in the name of Jesus is going on in here!"
I ignored her and continued to listen to the song.
"Joshua William Dun, you explain to me what you are doing right now!"
"No way bitch!"
"How dare you talk to me like that! I am your mother!"
"Yeah! I mother who hates her child!"
"That is a lie that's coming from the devil from hell!" She yelled. "You turn that sac religious trash off right now!"
"No!"
"If you don't turn that off right now, I will drag you to the priest and force you to confess to what you have done!"
"The priest can kiss my ass!"
When she heard what I said, she took out a sledgehammer from my closet and smashed my CD player to pieces.
"Mom! You fucking piece of shit! How dare you break my stuff!"
When she was done, she dropped the sledgehammer to the floor.
"Tomorrow, you will work in the house. If you do that, then I'll reconsider taking you to the priest."
She started to walk away.
"And you will pay for a new CD player."
She walked out of my room and slammed the door. All of my anger turned into sadness. I couldn't believe I messed up. I ruined my chance to change. I know Tyler is gonna hate me. What am I gonna tell him?
I laid on the floor, sobbing.
