(Tyler's pov)

A few minutes later, my mother called me and my siblings down for dinner. Spending the time with my family is my favorite time of the day, because after we eat, we gather in the living room for evening prayers.

Once we sat down, we all held hands for the mealtime prayer.

"Tyler, would you please say the prayer?"

"Yes mother."

We all bowed our heads.

"Bless us, O Lord, and these thy gifts which we are about to receive from thy bounty through Christ our Lord. Amen."

We started eating as soon as the prayer was finished. Mother really knows how to cook. She's super good at it. But as much as I loved her cooking, I really wasn't that hungry.

"How did confession go?" My father asked.

"It was good." I replied.

"Did the priest give you something to do as an act of penance?"

"I am to pray three Hail Marys before bedtime, and I prayed the Hail Holy Queen to mother as soon as I got home."

"Very good."

"Unfortunately, Tyler kind of broke a promise to the priest after he specifically told him what he shouldn't have done." Mother added.

"What did he do?" My father asked.

"He told me my soul would never get out of purgatory." Zack said.

My father turned to me. I knew he was disappointed in me. I felt very ashamed.

"Son, that's very sinful."

"I know father, but I paid my punishment."

"What was it?"

"I had to pray the prayer for the souls of purgatory."

"Good, because any sin we commit adds more time for us in purgatory. So we must pray to relieve our time so we can go to heaven."

"Your father is right. Purgatory is going to be a long painful process, but we must pray for the Lord to have mercy on us when our time comes." My mother said.

"Yes mother. Yes father."

"Good, now let's finish eating so we can get ready for our evening prayers."

"And Tyler, remember to pray your act of penance because we have Catholic Mass tomorrow."

"Yes mother."

After we finished dinner, we gathered together in the living room for evening prayers.

Before we started, we did the sign of the cross.

"In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."

"Alright." My mother said. "Let us pray."

"Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen."

"Jay, please pray St. Thomas Aquinas prayer to the Virgin Mary."

"Virgin full of goodness, Mother of mercy, we entrust to you our body and our soul, our thoughts and our actions, our lives and our deaths. My queen, come to our aid and deliver us from the snares of the devil. Obtain for us the grace of loving our Lord Jesus Christ, your son, with a true and perfect love, and after him, O Mary, of loving you with all our heart and above all things. Amen."

We all once again did the sign of the cross.

"Alright everyone, let's go to bed. We have Catholic Mass in the morning."

I walked upstairs to my room. It was finally time for me to do my act of penance.

Once I got my pajamas on, I kneeled down over my bedside and did the sign of the cross before beginning my penance.

"Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen."

Like the priest told me, I repeated the prayer two more times to complete my act of penance.

"Thank you god for your mercy."

I once again did the sign of the cross and completely my act of penance. I was so relieved that my sins were officially forgiven.

I thank God for his strength and mercy upon me which gave me the power to have my sins forgiven.
