Eight ✝️

(Tyler's pov)

We got home a few minutes later than the normal time, but that's okay. My mother thought that this time, it was kind of worth it.

"Alright everyone. Get to studying. I will call each one of you individually to recite your prayers."

My mother decided to start with Jay. It was kind of unusual because I'm usually the one who starts, but whatever.

After my younger siblings finished reciting, it was finally my turn to recite my prayer.

I walked up to my mother, who sat in her favorite chair in the living room, which stood next to our fireplace with the statue of our blessed mother Mary standing over it.

"Alright Tyler. Do you have a prayer memorized?"

"Yes mother."

"Good. You may start whenever you're ready."

I placed the book behind my back and began the prayer.

"Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I adore thee profoundly. I offer thee the most precious body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifferences whereby he is offended. And through the infinite merits of his most Sacred Heart and Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg thee the conversion of poor sinners. Amen."

When I finished the prayer, my mother immediately started clapping.

"My sweet precious son. I am so proud of you."

I smiled slightly.

"Thank you mother."

"Tyler, before you head back upstairs, could I talk to you for a minute."

"Yes mother. What is it?"

"Please, come sit with me."

I sat down on the floor in front of my mother.

"Why did you have us stay at the church later than usual?"

"I wanted some time to look over my prayer book."

"Yes I know that, but I'm sure there was something you needed to do."

I sat silently, not answering my mother.

"I hope you don't lie to me, because lying is a great sin, and it's often never forgiven."

"I know mother."

"Then tell me, why did you want to stay?"

I came clean.

"I-I met a guy."

"A guy?"

"Yes mother."

"Tyler Joseph, you know it's a even greater sin to lay with the same gender."

"I know mother, but it's not like that. I met him, and he seemed very genuine to me. His family are Catholics like us, but he's been going through a hard time and is lost in his beliefs."

"Why can't be take confirmation like you did?"

"He got expelled."

"Then why would you care for someone who doesn't care about his beliefs?"

"Mother, I want to help him. He's just lost and he needs to get back to salvation."

My mother put her hand on my shoulder.

"Tyler, you're a really good Catholic. You're very devoted and that's something God has blessed me with. I remember when you got confirmed, and when you took your profession of faith in front of the whole church."

"I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. Yes, I remember mother."

Seeing how much I wanted to help Josh, my mother agreed.

"Okay Tyler, you can help the boy."

"Thank you Mother!"

"But, on one condition, you are to go over all the basic prayers, the rosary, and the Nicene Creed. Please write it down if possible."

"Yes mother."

I ran upstairs and went into my room. I jumped up and down with excitement. I couldn't believe I was going to help Josh.

I was so proud God was going to give me the power to save him.
