WORST NIGHTMARE
A few days passes Emily and Olivia were sitting in Olivia's room. The room was filled with their favorite posters, and they were surrounded by snacks and a cozy blanket. Olivia had been wondering something ever since that day in the park, and she finally felt like it was the right time to ask.“Emily,” Olivia said gently, looking at her friend. “Can I ask you something?”
“Sure,” Emily replied.
“Why did you go to the park all alone that day?” Olivia asked. “What happened when you told Ryan how you felt?”
Emily's smile faded a little, and she took a deep breath. She looked down at her hands. “I guess I didn’t want to talk about it because I felt so embarrassed,” she said quietly.Olivia , giving her a reassuring smile. “You can tell me anything, Emily. No matter what, I’m here for you.”
Emily nodded, then finally started to talk. “Well, I did tell Ryan that I liked him,” she said, her voice barely a whisper. “I told him how I’ve had a crush on him for a while and that I wanted to know if he felt the same way.” Emily continued, “He said he didn’t feel the same way. He said he liked me as a friend, but he didn’t want to date anyone right now. He was kind and honest, but it still hurt so much to hear.”
Olivia’s heart ached for her friend. She could see the sadness in Emily’s eyes and knew how much courage it must have taken for her to tell Ryan her feelings. “Oh, Emily,” Olivia said, reaching out to hug her. “I’m so sorry. That must have been really hard.”
Olivia's smile faded a little, and she looked down . "Emily, I feel like I’m part of the problem," she said, her voice filled with guilt. "I was the one who kept saying that Ryan probably had feelings for you, and I kept pushing you to tell him. I thought I was helping, but maybe I just made everything worse."Emily blinked in surprise . "Olivia, no! You were just being a good friend," she said softly. "I was the one who decided to tell Ryan how I felt. I don’t blame you at all. You were only trying to help me believe in myself, and that’s what best friends do."."But I encouraged you to go for it," Olivia said, still looking troubled. "I got your hopes up, and then when it didn’t work out, you ended up hurt and alone in the park. I just feel like I messed everything up for you."
Emily reached out and took Olivia’s hand. "You didn’t mess anything up" . "Yeah, it didn’t turn out the way I hoped, but that’s okay. I’d rather know the truth than always wonder ‘what if.’ And you were there for me when I needed you most, even when I didn’t have the courage to ask for help.".
As they settled back into their comfortable chat, Emily looked thoughtfully at Olivia. “Olivia, can I ask you something else?” she said.
“Of course! What’s on your mind?” Olivia replied, giving her full attention.
Emily took a deep breath, her eyes wide. “I don’t understand why destiny allows some people to meet and then keeps them apart. Like, why does it have to be so complicated?”
“What do you mean?” Olivia asked.“I mean, like with Ryan,” Emily explained. “We had so much fun together and got along really well. It felt like we had this special connection, but then he didn’t feel the same way. It’s like destiny brought us together just to pull us apart. It doesn’t make any sense!”
Olivia nodded, feeling the weight of her friend’s sadness. “I get what you’re saying. It feels really unfair sometimes, doesn’t it? You meet someone who seems perfect for you, and then it feels like everything falls apart.” “Exactly!” Emily exclaimed. “It’s like the universe is playing some kind of joke on us. We’re supposed to be together, but then… nothing. I just don’t understand why!” “Maybe it’s about timing,” Olivia suggested, trying to be helpful. “Sometimes people meet when they’re not ready for a relationship or when their lives are just too different. It doesn’t mean you won’t find someone amazing later on.”
Emily sighed, shaking her head. “But why does it have to be this way? It feels like we’re meant to be with certain people, but then we end up all alone. It’s just so frustrating! I thought Ryan was someone special. I just wish it didn’t have to be this complicated. Why can’t things just be simple?”.“But sometimes, the best things come when you least expect them. You never know what’s waiting for you around the corner. It could be someone even better!” Olivia said . Emily shook her head, her expression serious. “But that lost thing will never be replaced with something better because that lost thing is something better. You don’t understand, Olivia. It’s not just about finding someone new; it’s about what I had. It was special, and now it’s gone.”
Olivia felt her heart ache for Emily. “I know it feels like that now, but sometimes life has a way of surprising us.
“Maybe,” Emily said, her voice quieter. “But it still hurts. I wanted it to be Ryan. I wanted us to be together, and now it feels like I’ve lost something I can’t get back.”“I get it,” Olivia said softly. “But that doesn’t mean you won’t have more amazing moments in the future. It just takes time. You’re allowed to feel sad about it. Just know that I’ll be right here with you, no matter what.”
After Ryan left for another country without telling anyone, things got really messy .Alex told his friends about Ryan. “Hey, did you guys know Ryan just left? He didn’t even say goodbye! He’s gone to another country!” he said, looking surprised.“Seriously? Why wouldn’t he tell anyone?” . Alex replied. “What a jerk! He left Emily hanging without a word.”When Olivia heard this, her heart raced with anger. She felt like she could explode. “How could he do this to her?” she thought. “He should’ve at least told Emily!” She was worried about her friend, who was already feeling down.Olivia said , “Alex, please don’t tell Emily that Ryan went to another country,. “She’s already hurting so much, and I don’t want her to feel worse.” “Okay, I won’t say anything,” Alex promised.Emily was walking nearby when she accidentally overheard their conversation. “What do you mean Ryan left? He went to another country?” she telling this to herself.
“He just left? Without telling me?” Emily whispered to herself . She could hardly believe it. It felt like a bad dream. Why didn’t he say goodbye?” she thought. “Didn’t I mean anything to him?”
Later that day, when she met up with Olivia, her eyes were wide with shock. “I heard what Alex said,” Emily said, her voice shaky. “Ryan really just left without telling anyone? Why would he do that to me?”Olivia’s said , “I’m so sorry, Emily. I wanted to protect you from the news,” she said, feeling guilty. “I thought it would be better if you didn’t know.”
“But now I do know!” Emily replied, tears shattered. “It makes me feel even worse. Why didn’t he care enough to say anything? Did I mean so little to him?”Emily shook her head, feeling lost. “But I feel so worthless. If he really cared, he would have said goodbye, right? Maybe I’m not good enough for anyone.”
Emily looked down, feeling defeated. “It just hurts so much right now. I thought I was special to him, but now I feel like I don’t matter.”
Olivia thought for a moment. “You know what? We need to do something different. Let’s take a break from all this thinking. Let’s go do something fun! How about we go to the arcade, grab ice cream, or even go to the park?”
Emily looked at her friend, “Really? You think that would help?” “Definitely!” Olivia said. “Sometimes, getting out and having fun can help clear your mind. You don’t have to think about Ryan or any of this for a little while.” Emily hesitated but then nodded slowly. “Okay, that sounds nice. I could use a break from all the heavy stuff.”
After thinking for a week, Emily finally made up her mind to go abroad. She knew it was a big decision, so she talked to her mom about it. At first, her mom wasn’t sure and didn’t agree, but after Emily asked a few more times and explained why it was important to her, her mom accepted.
Emily then told her best friend Olivia about her plan.
When Emily told Olivia about her decision to go abroad, Olivia was really surprised. She hadn’t expected Emily to leave, and the thought of not seeing her every day made her feel sad. They had been such close friends for a long time, and Olivia knew she was going to miss her a lot.
But after thinking about it for a while, Olivia started to understand. She realized that if Emily stayed, she wouldn’t be able to grow and move on with her life . Olivia knew that even though it was hard, it was the best thing for Emily, and she wanted to support her friend’s big adventure.
The next day, Olivia told the rest of their friends about Emily’s big decision. At first, everyone was sad and didn’t want her to leave. They had so many fun memories together, and they didn’t want those times to end. But just like Olivia, they realized that Emily was doing something important for herself, and they wanted to support her too. They promised to stay in touch and always be friends, even when Emily was far away.
This made Emily feel really loved, and she knew that no matter where she went, her friends would always be a big part of her life.
As the days passed, Emily started preparing for her trip abroad. She had to pack her clothes, her favorite books, and other things she would need in her new adventure. Her friends helped her pack, they talked about all the fun times they had shared. They laughed about the funny things they used to do and made plans to video chat often so they wouldn’t lose touch
On Emily’s last day before leaving, her friends threw her a little party. They decorated the place with balloons and made her favorite snacks. Everyone wrote her special notes to take with her, so if she ever felt lonely, she could read them and remember how much they cared. Even though there were some tears, they promised that their friendship would stay strong no matter how far apart they were.
When it was time to say goodbye, Emily felt both excited and a little nervous.
When the day came for Emily to leave, her parents took her to the airport. They were proud of her but also sad to see her go. Her mom had packed her favorite snacks for the long trip, and her dad helped carry her bags. Emily could tell they were going to miss her a lot, but they kept telling her how excited they were for her new adventure.
At the airport, her friends were there too, along with her parents. Everyone gave her big hugs, and her mom wiped away a few tears. Emily's dad patted her on the back and told her to be brave and enjoy every moment. Even though it was hard to say goodbye, Emily knew her family would always be there for her, just like her friends.
As she walked toward the gate, Emily waved one last time to her parents and friends, feeling a mix of emotions. She was nervous about what was waiting for her abroad, but with so much love and support from her family and friends, she knew she could face anything.
Once she was on the plane, Emily sat by the window and thought about everything. She remembered the party , the hugs from her parents, and the promises they all made to keep in touch. She smiled to herself, feeling lucky to have such great people in her life.As the plane took off, Emily looked out the window and saw the city below getting smaller and smaller. She thought about all the memories she was leaving behind, but she also knew that there were new memories waiting for her ahead. With a deep breath, Emily told herself that this was the start of something amazing, and no matter where she went, her family and friends would always be in her heart.
