CONFESSION COUNTDOWN
Alex, Ryan, Olivia, and Emily were all sitting together on their picnic blanket, surrounded by snacks and laughing about their day. The sun was shining brightly, and everyone was in a great mood. Suddenly, Emily leaned closer to Olivia, making sure the boys couldn't hear. With a shy smile on her face, she whispered, "I’m planning to tell him how I feel on the last day of school."
Olivia's eyes widened with excitement, and she gave Emily an encouraging nod. "Really? That’s so cool! Do you need any help?" she asked.
Emily nodded nervously. "I think I’m gonna need all the help I can get. What if I mess up? Or what if he doesn’t feel the same way?" she said, biting her lip.
Olivia reached out and gave Emily’s hand a gentle squeeze. "Don’t worry, I’ll help you figure it out," she promised. "We’ll come up with the perfect plan, and you’ll be great. Just trust me."
The two girls exchanged a look of determination, and in that moment, Emily knew she could do it—with Olivia by her side, she felt a little braver. Meanwhile, Alex and Ryan were too busy debating about their favorite video game.
The last day of school finally arrived, and it felt like a mix of excitement and sadness all into one. Emily, Alex, Ryan, and Olivia were all gathered in the schoolyard, where they had shared so many fun moments throughout the year. The sun was shining.
As the final bell rang, kids rushed out of classrooms, some jumping up and down and others hugging their friends tightly. Emily felt butterflies in her stomach. “I can’t believe it’s really over!” she said, glancing around at her friends, who all looked just as excited
“We have to make today super special!” Alex shouted, grinning. “Let’s take a ton of pictures and have a water balloon fight!”
The group spent the morning having a blast—playing games, eating cupcakes, and laughing so hard their stomachs hurt. It felt like one big party, and for a moment, they forgot about the sadness of leaving.
After lunch, it was time for the farewell ceremony in the auditorium . The principal gave a speech, thanking everyone for a great year. She looked around at the familiar faces and realized how much they had all grown.
When the speeches were over, it was time to exchange letters. Emily had spent the night writing special notes for each of her friends. She wanted to tell them how much they meant to her. She felt nervous but excited as she handed her letters out.
First, she gave Olivia her letter. “You’re my best friend, and I’m going to miss you so much!” Olivia read it and hugged Emily tightly, tears in her eyes. “I’m going to miss you too! Let’s promise to meet up over the summer!”
Next, Emily gave Alex his letter. She had filled it with funny memories, like the time they tried to bake cookies and ended up making a huge mess instead. Alex laughed as he read it. “This is awesome! We have to hang out during summer break!”
Finally, Emily turned to Ryan. She took a deep breath and handed him her letter. “Here you go,” she said, feeling her heart race. Ryan opened it and started reading, a surprised look on his face Thanks he said.
As the day went on, everyone gathered outside for one last group photo. Arms around each other, smiling big. “Say cheese!” Olivia shouted, and they all laughed, knowing they’d remember this day forever.
When the picture was taken, they all cheered and promised to stay in touch over the summer. As the sun began to set, Emily looked back at the school one last time. She felt a little sad but also hopeful for what was to come. She knew this wasn’t just goodbye; it was the beginning of new adventures with her amazing friends.
That night, Emily was feeling a mix of emotions. She had spent the whole day thinking about what she wanted to say to Ryan, and now that she had the chance, her heart raced. They were watching fireflies dance in the warm summer air. “Ryan,” she began, her voice a little shaky. “I need to tell you something important.” She took a deep breath, gathering her courage. “I really like you... like, more than a friend. I think I’m in love with you.” Ryan looked at her, I can’t love you,” he had said, looking down, “I don’t see you as my girlfriend or lover. I always love you as my sister.” Emily felt her heart drop. “But… but you give me so much attention! I thought that meant something!” she exclaimed, trying to hold back tears.
Ryan shook his head. “All that attention doesn’t mean I see you as a girlfriend. I care about you a lot, but it’s like how I care about my sister. It’s different.”
Emily blinked, trying to understand. “So, you mean you don’t really like me like that?” .But I just don’t feel that way,” Ryan explained, looking down at his hands.“But we’re so close!” Emily said, her voice wavering. “I thought maybe… maybe we could be more than friends. I mean, you always make me laugh and we have so much fun together!” Ryan replied, . “But I just can’t see you as anything more than a sister. I don’t want to ruin what we have by trying to make it something it’s not.” Emily nodded, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. She tried to smile, but it felt heavy on her face. “I get it,” she said quietly. It was hard to accept, but she knew she would need some time to sort through her feelings. Heartbroken, she turned away, not wanting him to see her tears. she decided to go to the park, her favorite place to think. The rain began to fall as soon as she arrived, but she didn’t care. She sat on a bench, letting the droplets soak her completely, feeling like the rain could wash away her sadness.
Meanwhile, Olivia was back home, feeling uneasy. She hadn’t seen Emily since the proposal and started to worry. “What if she’s upset?” she thought, biting her lip. After waiting for a text that never came, she decided to check the place where Emily had confessed to Ryan. When she got there, The park was empty, and there was no sign of Emily.“Where could she be?” Olivia whispered to herself, panicking. She pulled out her phone, hoping to see if Emily had messaged her. Nothing. “This isn’t good,” she thought, her mind racing. “I need to find her!”.Then Olivia remembered Snapchat. She quickly opened the app and looked for Emily’s location. “Come on, please be there!” . When she saw that Emily was at the park, her heart raced. “I have to get there fast!”
As soon as Olivia got to the park, her heart raced with worry. The rain was still pouring down, and the ground was muddy and slippery. She search the area, looking for Emily. Then she spotted her sitting on a bench, completely drenched and shivering.
“Emily!” Olivia called out, rushing over. But before she could reach her friend, Emily suddenly collapsed and fell to the ground, the rain soaking her even more.
“Emily! No!” Olivia said , her eyes wide with panic. She dropped to her knees beside Emily and shook her gently. “Wake up! Please!” But Emily didn’t move. Her eyes were closed, and her skin looked pale.
Olivia felt a wave of fear . “What do I do?!” she thought, feeling helpless. She quickly grabbed her phone and dialed for help, her hands shaking. “I need an ambulance! My friend fainted in the park!” she said, trying to keep her voice steady. The operator on the other end assured her that help was on the way.
While she waited, Olivia was by Emily’s side, feeling the rain pour down on them both. “Come on, Emily! You have to wake up!” she said, tears starting to fill her eyes. She could see that Emily was cold and shivering, and it broke her heart.
“Please, just hang in there,” Olivia whispered, wrapping her arms around Emily to keep her warm. She wanted so badly for Emily to open her eyes and smile at her like she always did. Instead, all she could do was hold her friend tight, hoping that she would be okay.
Finally, Olivia heard the distant sound of sirens. Relief washed over her as the ambulance pulled up. Paramedics jumped out and rushed over to them.
"What happened?” one of them asked .
“She was out in the rain for hours, and then she just collapsed!” Olivia explained, her voice trembling. “I’m so scared!”
The paramedics quickly checked Emily’s pulse and wrapped her in warm blankets. “She’s cold and needs to get to the hospital,” one of them said. They carefully lifted Emily onto a stretcher.
“Please take care of her!” Olivia pleaded as they wheeled her friend toward the ambulance. “I’ll go with her!”
As they loaded Emily into the ambulance, Olivia climbed in beside her, holding Emily’s hand tightly. “You’re going to be okay, Emily,” she promised, wiping away her own tears. “I’m right here. We’ll get through this together.”
As the ambulance raced toward the hospital, Olivia kept holding Emily’s hand tightly, not letting go for even a second. She kept talking to her friend, hoping her words would somehow help.
“Come on, Emily, you have to wake up,” Olivia said softly. She was trying to be brave, but inside she felt like her heart was breaking. She hated seeing Emily like this—so quiet, so still. Usually, Emily was always smiling and full of energy, but now she just lay there, not moving at all.
The paramedics kept checking Emily, making sure she was okay as they drove fast through the rain. Olivia watched them and felt a little better knowing they were doing everything they could to help. But she was still scared .
When they finally got to the hospital, the doctors and nurses were already waiting for them. They rushed over and quickly took Emily inside. Olivia tried to go with them, but a nurse gently stopped her. “We need to take care of her now,” the nurse said. “You can wait out here.”
Olivia nodded, even though she didn’t want to let go of Emily’s hand. She stood there, watching the doors close behind her friend, and suddenly felt very alone. She wrapped her arms around herself, her clothes still wet from the rain, and tried not to cry.
After a while, Olivia sat down in a chair in the waiting room, staring at the floor . She kept thinking about all the fun things she and Emily had done together and how much she needed her best friend to be okay.
Just then, a doctor came out and walked over to her. Olivia jumped up from her chair . "Is Emily going to be okay?" she asked.
The doctor gave her a small smile. “She’s alright,” he said. “She was just very cold and tired from being in the rain for so long. We’re warming her up now, and she’s resting. She’ll need to stay here for a little while, but she’s going to be fine.”
She let out a big breath she didn’t even realize she was holding. “Thank you, thank you so much,” she said, wiping away the tears on her cheeks.
The doctor nodded and led her to Emily’s room. When Olivia saw her friend lying there, looking a little better but still tired, she felt so relieved. She walked over to Emily’s side and took her hand again.
“You scared me so much, you know that?” Olivia said, her voice shaky but with a smile. “Don’t you ever do that again!”
Emily opened her eyes just a little and gave Olivia a tiny smile. “I’m sorry,” she whispered, her voice soft. “Thanks for being here.”
Olivia nodded, feeling tears fill her eyes again, but this time they were happy tears. “Always,” she said. “I’m not going anywhere.”
One afternoon, as Olivia sat by Emily’s bed, Emily looked at her with a serious face. "You really scared me out there," Olivia said, she remembered that rainy day in the park. "I thought I was going to lose you."
Emily reached out and held Olivia’s hand. "I'm sorry," she said softly. "I didn’t mean to make you worry. I just wanted some time to think, and I guess I stayed out too long."
Olivia squeezed her hand. "You don’t have to go through stuff alone, you know. I’m here for you, no matter what. Even if it’s raining or if you're upset. Promise me you won’t try to handle everything by yourself again."
Emily gave a small nod. "I promise," she said, her eyes shining with gratitude. "I’m lucky to have a friend like you, Olivia."
Olivia smiled, feeling a warmth in her chest that made her forget all the worry and fear she’d felt before. "We’re in this together, Emily. Always."
They spent the rest of the afternoon talking and laughing, the way they always used to.
When it was finally time for Emily to leave the hospital, Olivia was right there to help her. As they walked out the front doors, the sun was shining brightly, and the sky was clear and blue.
As they headed back home, Emily turned to Olivia and said, "Thanks for not giving up on me. You’re the best friend anyone could ever have."
Olivia grinned and bumped her shoulder against Emily's. "That’s because you’re stuck with me, no matter what!" she said, laughing.
They both laughed together, their worries melting away in the sunlight. They knew that whatever happened, they’d always have each other’s backs. And that was the best feeling in the world.
