Phone Call

"I heard that you went camping a little while back?" Marcy's stated, her voice sounding metallic through his phone. "Did you have fun?"

Matt shuddered thinking back to the camping trip. "It was ok, the three of us had fun for a while, then we packed up and went home. We didn't end up staying the night." The picture of his parents standing there with Keith glaring at them made his whole body shake.

"I also heard that there were a few uninvited guests. Did they hurt you Mathew?" Marcy asked, her voice lowering into a more serious tone.

"No," Matt replied looking over to his old bed smiling. "They just scared me a little bit. Thankfully Kevi was there with a big scary knife and sent them away!"

Marcy gasped into the phone before her words flew across the speaker. "Did he try and hurt them? Is that moron trying to get arrested? How could he be so reckless?"

"He protected me Marcy, I-I'm glad he did! I was so scared when I saw them. I didn't know what to do, but it's okay now. Kevi saved me!" He paused for a second as Marcy began to mumble something under her breath. " I don't want to talk about that anymore though ok? It's been a few weeks since then, and now we are all back to normal! We can move on now right?" Matt took a deep breath holding it in as he tried to quell the shaking in his hands. "So how is lawyer college?" He asked finally letting the air out. "Is it fun?"

"Hah! Fun?" Marcy repeated in a cynical tone. "Fun is going to the park and barbecuing. This, this is not that."

"Then why do you stay there? If it's not fun, then why bother?" Matt wondered out loud as he looked over at his and Kevin's shared bed.

Marcy's laughter began echoing through the phone, and Matt looked down at it with a pang of annoyance. "Let me rephrase," She said as she let out a happy sigh. "I am having a great time here! I'm learning a whole bunch of things, and I'm learning how to protect people! Like Kevin did for you, but only instead of illegally threatening to kill people, I use the law to make sure that those who break the rules, go to prison! It's really all quite fascinating!"

"Oh, that's nice Mar, but I don't think the law will stop them. They seemed pretty intent on talking to me." Matt sighed looking over towards the window, thinking back to when he had to climb out to get away from them. "They keep showing up at places I go, and I wish they would just go away!"

"Mathew..." Marcy paused, her voice tightening as she took a deep breath. "What exactly do they want to talk about? I mean they have to have a reason right? Is there something they need, or want you to do? Maybe they just want to try and make amends?"

The words sounded hollow from the other end of the line, and Matt couldn't help but look down at the phone in surprise. It sounded like Marcy, but it sounded wrong. "I don't think so. They seemed unhappy, and each time they were trying to get to me, mom seemed to be in control of the situation. I don't think there's anything that makes sense right now with them. I don't know what she's doing with him, but whatever the reason they can leave me out of it. I am sure that I don't want to see him ever again!"

"Honey, I'm sure they are just trying to do what's best for you..." Marcy suggested as the strain in her voice began to squeak through.

"No, that's not who they are; it wouldn't be like them... Marcy, are you ok? You sound really stressed out." Matt exclaimed as he noted her continual defense of his parents.

"I'm fine, why do you ask?" Marcy nervously responded as her breath began to quicken.

Matt began to study his phone's screensaver. A picture of Kevin and Marcy both laughing as Matt opened a present at his old home. He lived there with his parents when an awful idea sank into his heart. "A-Are they there with you right now?" He asked in a timid voice as a small gasp echoed through the phone.

"N-No!" Marcy said in a panic, "That would be silly. Why would they be here at Harvard? You're nowhere near here!" A pair of voices began talking far enough in the background to be unheard, but there was one male and one female, and they both sounded frustrated.

"That's them isn't it..." Matt asked as betrayal flooded through him. "Marcy why would you lie to me? I thought we were friends!"

"Matt I'm jus-" Hanging up the phone before she could explain herself, Matt glared at his phone with a cold empty feeling inside him as he looked at the screensaver again. The emptiness turned into unhappiness, then morphed into a new emotion to him alltogether. It hurt, but he felt nothing but anger at the thought of her helping his parents. A cold, empty anger took over him as he continued to glare at the picture of her laughing at him.

"MADDY!" Kevin sang out as he opened the door in his casual happy voice. "WHERE AR-" He froze as he noticed Matt sitting at the table looking angrily at his phone. "Maddy what's wrong?"

"Marcy." Matt spat with his newfound emotion pouring out of him.

Kevin smirked as he unslung his backpack, then returned to a serious composure. "Not that I'm surprised, but what did she do now?"

"She lied to me!" Matt replied with the cold anger lashing out towards Kevin. "She was trying to get me to talk to them!" He cried out slamming his fist into his knee. "How could she do that Kevi? It's not fair! She's my other best friend!" He froze looking up to Kevin with a sudden fear. "H-Have they tried to talk to you too?" His eyes frantically scanning Kevin for any source of deception. "Did they?"

Looking back at Matt with amusement, Kevin began to laugh. "Maddy I took a knife to that freakshow. I wouldn't talk to them without a gun to my head! You know that!"

A skeptical glance crossed Matt's eyes as he continued his search for deception. "How did they know about our camping trip then? We didn't tell anybody where we were going but Ian! A-And then they knew where we lived too! T-Then the phone call? How could they get all that information? They shouldn't have been able to do any of that!"

Kevin wore a serious expression. "I have no id-" He stopped and let out a heart-breaking groan. "My Facebook page! I posted that I was going to be out of wifi while we went camping. Our moms are friends on facebook. They probably started talking to one another, and then got all they needed to know from her! She's such a gossiper that woman, that's probably how they got our room number too! Maybe even your phone number!" He looked at Matt with sadness in his voice. "I'm so sorry Maddy, this should never have happened. I'm going to call my mom and explain what's going on." Kevin pulled out his phone and quickly scrolls through the contacts.

"Make sure she never talks to them again!" Matt demanded, Kevin stuck his thumb up in agreement, and Matt continued. "A-And make sure she hates them too!" Kevin lifted his thumb up a little higher as he nodded his head. "Good," He mumbled to himself, rolling his eyes irritated with Kevin's mother. Suddenly he heard a knock at the door. "Who is that?" Matt asked looking at Kevin with a measure of distrust.

Looking over at him with confusion Kevin mouthed the words "No idea," then went to the door to check. Looking through the peephole, Kevin smiled and quickly unlocked the door opening it.

Ian began talking as he wandered inside. "Hey guys, I was wondering if you wanted-" Ian stopped talking when he noticed Matt's unhappy face, and Kevin on the phone. "Is everything ok here?"

Huffing with annoyance, Matt looked over to Ian with frustration bubbling inside him. "Not really, Marcy is working with Keith to try and get me to talk to them. She lied to my face just now on the phone!"

"That's awful..." Ian replied disgusted as Kevin raised his voice a few octaves on the phone. "Doesn't she know what he put you through?" Ian questioned as he shut the door behind him.

"I thought she did." Matt replied gritting his teeth as Ian sat down on the chair beside the door. "I told her about some of the stuff that he did..."

"Some?" Ian prompted with a curious tone. "What do you mean some?"

Matt's eyes glinted for a second before his shoulders tensed. "I didn't tell her about... About my scars, but she found out somehow. I don't think she knew about them, but she knew Keith was hitting my mom! I don't think she knew about the rest of it."

A slow breath fled from Ian's lips as he looked down at the table. "So she has been helping-"

"He fucking mutilated my boyfriend! Of course I took a knife to him!" Kevin shouted making them both look over at him. "I don't care if they do call the police. Maybe they can arrest Keith for being a-... No, I refuse to call him that! He's a fucking monster, and he lost that title a long time ago!"

"I think we should go for a walk." Ian suggested snapping Matt's focus back to him. "How about we go wander across campus huh?" Matt nodded and stood up.

"We're going for a walk Kevi." Matt said loud enough for Kevin to look over and nod his head in approval. Starting for the door, Ian opened it quickly, and the two started out towards campus.

"So. How are classes going this term?" Ian said as they wandered down the hall.

"Good," Matt replied with little to no emotion in his voice.

Ian stopped walking, and looked at his dorm door. "Hey Matt, I need to let my girlfriend know I'm going out, do you want to come in and meet her?"

Matt's anger wavered for a second as he thought of the mysterious monopoly player. "S-Sure..."

Nodding his head with a grin, Ian opened the door and a high pitched Russian voice came ringing through the door. "WELCOME BACK DALING! You weren't gone long, were they doing the sex again?" She asked as Matt began to blush.

"No Amanda, Kevin was on the phone, so I thought it better Matt and I go for a walk. I figured I would let you know first so you wouldn't worry about me!" Ian replied walking inside with Matt cowering behind him.

"Oh you are too good to me, bless your sweetheart. Is Matt here by chance? I would love to meet him!" Amanda giggled as she walked out from the bedroom.

"I'm here..." Matt squeaked out behind Ian as he came into view. "Hello..." Amanda went straight over to the two of them with a friendly smile. Her long black hair was flowing behind her in a curly mess. She was a large woman with toned arms and a very large bosom. She had bright green eyes, and looked like she lived at the gym. Her striped flannel pajamas seemed to flap as she came to a halt, and she looked like she had just woken up. Wrapping her humongous arms around Matt, she squealed in delight as if they were long lost family.

"Hello little one! I have heard so much from Ian about you! I hear you are sweetest boy! Monopoly and Kevin are only things you talk about!" Amanda squeezed tighter as she began to giggle.

"H-Help..." Matt muttered to Ian, "C-Can't breath!" He pointed at his chest.

Ian smirked, then put his hand on Amanda's shoulder. "You're crushing Matt hun, maybe ease up a bit? He's little, even for an adult!" Amanda let go suddenly looking Matt over with an intense gaze.

"He is tiny isn't he..." Amanda cooed. "But he's so cute too! He's like little porcelain doll's from long ago. So cute, yet so delicate!"

Looking towards the rug with discomfort, Matt took a small breath in and held it in for a few seconds before speaking. "It's nice to meet you. Ian has spoken very highly of you."

"Has he now? I'll have to thank him for that later!" Amanda purred as she turned her gaze to Ian with a sensual smile. "Enough about me though daling. I'm interrupting your walk! Many apologies about that!"

"I-It's fine..." Matt replied somewhat nervously. "We should get going though." Matt started back towards the door clinging to Ian's arm as he pulled him away from the large woman. "R-Ready Ian?"

"Yep, let's go!" Ian replied waving to Amanda as he left. "I'll be back in an hour or so!" He said before shutting the door and starting off with Matt. "Well that was Amanda. I know she can be a little overbearing, but she has a heart of gold!"

"She scares me," Matt mumbled out as he took in another deep breath. "I think she would have suffocated me if you didn't say something."

Ian laughed as Matt let out a weak sigh. "She is a bit of a hugger, isn't she. Well she's super sweet, and I love her with all my heart! I was actually thinking of proposing soon believe it or not."

Matt looked over to him in surprise. "Really? You want to get married to her?"

"Yeah, is there a problem with that?" Ian asked looking down at Matt curiously. "I mean she's pretty, she's got a soul of pure gold, and she loves to hug! What else is there!"

"There's nothing wrong with that; I just thought only old people got married." Matt replied as the two continued in a mostly comfortable silence. Passing the last few door's, the two found themselves passing a large party. They had spilled out into the hall and they all looked like they were enjoying themselves. The whole area smelled like spilled alcohol making Matt cringe. "So, have you made any new rug's recently?"

"Nope, I have been focused on blankets for the last few months." Ian said raising his voice so that the two could hear each other over the roar of the music from inside the dorm. "Speaking of, I have a special gift for you! It's back at my dorm! Remind me to give it to you when we get back!"

Matt visibly brightened. "You got me a gift? That's so awesome! Thank you so much!" He wrapped his arm around Ian's ribs and hugged him from the side. Ian smiled and wrapped his arm around the small man's shoulders.

"You know, even though we haven't been friends for a long time, I really am happy I got to meet you. I'm glad you were sitting outside my dorm that night instead of somebody else's." Ian said holding Matt's shoulder as the two opened the door leading to the freedom of outside. The door shut behind them, and the party music fell to a dull roar as the wind blew a few leaves around on the ground. The sun was just starting to set over the campus, casting a beautiful orangish red across the campus.

"I'm glad I met you too!" Matt replied with an anxious smile as he thought back to the day he had broken down and fled his dorm. "You are a really cool guy. I hope she makes you happy! And I hope you make it to a really old age so you can be married forever!" He pulled away, and they started to walk again, enjoying the cool breeze blowing through the evening air. Passing a large oak tree that seemed to sing as the wind blew through it, Matt's phone chimes. Pulling it from his phone, he sees Kevin's picture lighting up the screensaver. "It's from Kevin..." Matt explains as he quickly opens the message.

Hey Maddy, I know you don't want to hear this, and it's making me sick just to say it but... Your dad is dying, and it's not a joke. He wants to try and make amends before he dies.

A smile formed on Matt's lips as he began to giggle. Rereading the message his grin grew wider, and his giggling developed into full-on laughter. "He's finally going away! He's going away forever!" He exclaimed jumping onto Ian and hugging him. Wrapping his legs around Ian and laughing joyously Ian supported Matt in curious silence. "He's finally going to leave me alone forever!" Matt cried out kissing Ian on the lips leaving Ian all the more confused as he stood there in silence.

Hello friends! I hope you are enjoying the story. I'm going to start winding the story down to an end though. I have been quite busy with my other stories, and since I have been dealing with a slight time press, this one might take the back seat. I don't know for sure yet. It still has a few more chapters to go before it ends though! Anyway. Thank you again for reading the story and I can't wait to hear from you!
