M-Married?
"Kevi, why are you taking me everywhere today? We've been to Bangers, the aquarium, the zoo, and now the park!" Matt asked as the two stood in line for an ice cream truck. Kevin looked over at him with a weak smile, then looked back towards the truck. "I mean, it's not like I mind. We don't normally go out, so it's really nice!"
"Yeah, don't worry about it." Kevin replied in a soft tone, his fingers shaking as he wrapped his around Matt's. "Have you decided what kind of ice cream you want?" Matt shook his head no. "Well hurry, we don't have long before we get to the front!"
Matt looked at the sign on the side of the shop and focused on the options, casually reading the flavors aloud to himself. As the line got smaller, Kevin pulled his hand free from Matt's and reached for his wallet. "I think I want cherry, but I also want bubblegum, I just don't like them both at the same time!" He looked up to Kevin, his eyes wide with concern. "Which one should I pick?"
"I don't know baby, pick one before all the ice cream melts away." Kevin joked as he reached for a bill. The line eventually faded away, and the pair were next. Heading to the front, the ice cream man seemed uninterested as they approched.
"What can I get you?" He said with a sigh as Matt began grinning.
"Can I get a scoop of the cherry, no I mean the bubblegum ice cream please?" Matt asked in an excited tone as the man looked at Matt.
"Cone or bowl kid?" The man said with another uninterested sigh.
Kevin coughed softly beside Matt making him turn to look at him. "You might want to get a bowl, remember last time you got a cone?"
"I won't drop it this time, that dog came out of nowhere and you know it!" Matt giggled as he turned his attention to the man in the cart. "I'll have a cone plea-"
"Bowl please," Kevin interrupted as he took a step forward. "And can I get a double scoop of mint in a bowl as well."
"Sure thing," The man answered quickly scooping the two frozen snacks. "That will be nine dollars and seventy-five cents. Kevin tossed a ten onto the counter and reached for the two bowls. "Keep the change friend,"
"Gee, thanks." The ice cream man sighed again as the two started off towards the nearby park.
"Can I have my ice cream Kevi! Please!" Matt bubbled as the two walked.
Kevin shook his head no as they waited at a crosswalk. "Let's wait till we can sit down. You usually make a mess, and I don't want you licking the asphalt for whatever little bits your spoon decided to share with it." Matt's lips puffed up, and his eyebrows furled.
"I don't share my food with the ground. Especially if it's ice cream! Gimmy gimmy!" Matt whined as he reached for the small bowl.
"Just wait a second, it's going to be just fine till we get to the park bench Maddy." Kevin retorted, lifting the two bowls over his head. Matt pouted, but the flashing sign indicated the two could walk.
Heading across the street, Matt rushed across and turned back to look at Kevin. He hands were trembling, and his face seemed lighter than normal. "Are you okay Kevi? You look kinda sick."
"I'm fine, nothing's wrong, don't worry about it." Kevin responded in a defensive tone as he caught up to Matt. "Let's go sit at the park bench over there." Kevin pointed with one of the bowls towards a large grassy hill that had a small bench on it.
"Okay!" Matt replied as he began running past the small wooden playground that a few children were playing on. The second he got to the park bench he turned around and looked at Kevin again.
When Kevin got there the two sat down. "Here you go Maddy." Kevin offered the bowl of mint to Matt.
"Wrong one silly, I got the bubblegum!" Matt replied reaching for the other one.
Kevin blinked in surprise before retracting the bowl and handing the other plastic bowl to him. "So are you having a good day today?" Matt began devouring his ice cream, nodding his head as he ate. "Good, that's good." He took a small bite of his ice cream before putting the spoon in the frozen treat. "So uh Maddy..." He trailed off, unsure what to say.
"Yes Kevi?" Matt responded, licking the inside of the bowl.
"Remember how yesterday you asked about how to make babies as two dads?" Kevin coughed nervously as Matt looked up from his bowl and grinned.
"Sure, I remember Kevi, but I don't think we should do stuff like that in public." Matt replied with a grin as he put his hand on Kevin's thigh. "But that doesn't mean I don't want to when I get home!"
"That's not what I mean Maddy." Kevin replied anxiously as he began to stir his ice cream. "You see, well," He paused again as he set his bowl down. "Matt, you are really important to me. You know that right?"
The smile on Matt's face began to fall, and he put down his empty bowl. "What's wrong Kevi? You never call me Matt unless something serious is going on. Is everything okay?"
"Of course it is sweety..." Kevin replied, trying to keep his calm. Taking a long breath, he reached for his bowl and offered it to Matt with a smile. Matt snatched it and quickly began to devour it. "You see, I just wanted to have a talk with you about our future. I don't know if you know how much you mean to me. I just thought I should try and show you." Kevin began to stumble over his words as he sat there. "Y-You see, you said two d-dads yesterday, and that made me think about you a-and me..."
"What about us? I don't think we can make a baby or anything, but we could adopt a bunch of babies! We could run around for school and stuff, and take them camping, maybe even go to the aquarium!" Matt bubbled in an excited voice as Kevin sat there listening.
"Well, see to do that kind of stuff." Kevin took another shaky breath. "We would have to get married."
Matt looked up at him, a small grin on his face. "Married? Why would we need to get married to go adopt a bunch of kids?"
"Well, we don't. Not really anyway." Kevin started, "But see if you want to have a family, you need to have a married couple. That got me thinking about you, and me..." He trailed off.
"Do you want to have a bunch of kids with me?" Matt asked with a simple, yet strangely devious smile.
"Of course I do Maddy, I would love to spend my day's with you and a few brats running around the house." Kevin said with a small chuckle as he looked down at the ground.
"Well then let's do that then!" Matt replied as he put down the second empty bowl of ice cream and slid his fingers into his pockets.
"It's not that simple though Maddy." Kevin replied with a sigh. "There's so much to figure out with a wedding, and guests, taxes, and I don't even wanna know about the price for an actual wedding."
"Well, do you wanna find out with me?" Matt questioned, extending his hand out towards Kevin. He looked down and took a sharp breath. A small, black ring sat squarely on Matt's palm.
"Maddy, are you proposing to me?" Kevin asked in a low tone, his eyes quivering.
"I think so." Matt replied with a grin. "Oh wait, I need to be on one knee right?" He stumbled off the chair and tried to keep his balance as he went towards the ground, almost falling over as he got to one knee. "Kevi, will you marry me?"
"Matt..." Kevin bleeted out weakly as he looked at Matt with joy. "When did you get the ring? And what made you think about marrying me?"
"Answer my question first silly, Matt said as he adjusted on his knee. "I think there's a rock on my kneecap." Kevin grinned and nodded his head yes.
"Of course I'll marry you Maddy!" Kevin exclaimed as he pulled Matt up from his kneeling position. "Now it's your turn to answer my question. When did you get the ring, and why?"
A relieved grin washed over Matt as he sat down beside Kevin. "Well I thought about it the other day. You told me about how Amanda and Ian were a happy couple, and how I needed to be an adult and talk to Ian about my frustration. Adult's usually get married, and I thought it was strange."
"What was strange Maddy?" Kevin asked as he looked at the black ring in Matt's hand.
"I thought it was strange we weren't married. I mean, we know everything about each other, we live together, we sleep together, and all we want to do is spend time together. That's basically a married couple right?" He lifted the ring up and looked at it. "I don't know if this one will fit you or not, but I got it out of a toy machine a few days ago."
Kevin let out a surprised laugh. "You got it from a toy machine?"
"Duh!" Matt replied with a giggle. "I can't afford a real ring. Those things are expensive!"
"Well then here. You can have this one!" Kevin replied, revealing a small silver ring. "I was planning on proposing today too!"
"Well you still need to propose then!" Matt said with a smile. Kevin rolled his eyes and knelt off the bench and looked up towards Matt.
"Will you marry me?" Kevin asked in a hopeful tone.
"No," Matt replied, earning him a confused look from Kevin. "Because I'm already marrying the perfect guy! I can't cheat on my future husband!"
"You jerk!" Kevin chuckled, smacking Matt's thigh as he stood up and sat back down beside Matt. "You scared me!"
"Sorry," Matt stated with a giggle as he extended his hand for Kevin to put the ring on. As the ring slid on his finger, he smiled. "I thought it was perfect timing." He paused for a moment, looking around the park. Seeing nobody in the vicinity, he looked over to Kevin and smiled. "I am excited to get to finally marry you." He said before leaning forward and kissing Kevin.
"Finally?" Kevin repeated slightly dazed. "What do you mean finally?"
"Well..." Matt paused for a moment, collecting his thoughts. "See, even as a little kid, I always enjoyed my time with you more than Marcy, and after we became a couple, I realized that I've always had this feeling inside. Somewhere deep down, I have always loved you. Now that we're married, I can explain that!"
"We're not married quite yet Maddy," Kevin chuckled as he leaned back on the park bench. "We still need to go through all the paperwork, and actually have a wedding."
"And finish college!" Matt chimed in,
"And finish college." Kevin added, "But after all that we can be married!"
"Does that mean we need to wait until we get married to do that thing with your mouth?" Matt asked, somewhat fearfully.
Kevin burst into laughter as Matt looked at him. "No baby, we can keep doing that stuff. I never thought it was fair to marry somebody you haven't slept with at least once. If your lover sucks in bed, then what's the point!"
"I think the point was to fall in love with the person." Matt explained, earning another laugh from Kevin.
"I know Maddy, I was just kidding. Besides, I don't think I can last until we get married to do that kind of stuff with you!"
"Well then let's go home and constipate our marriage!" Matt said with a sensual smile. Kevin's face turned bright red before he began laughing hysterically. "What's so funny?" Matt asked as he looked at Kevin.
"It's consummate!" Kevin replied through shaking breaths as he continued to laugh. "Constipate means you can't poop right." He took a shaky breath as his face began to return to normal as Matt turned bright red. "We can go home and do that, but we aren't married yet. We can consummate our marriage when we get married."
"Okay," Matt grumbled, embarrassed at his mistake. "Let's go home and have the sex."
Kevin let out a little sigh, wiping a tear from his eye. "Whatever Maddy, I love you!" Leaning forward, He kissed Matt's forehead. Then the two stood up, their fingers laced as they started back towards their dorm room.
