Love?
"Well, here we are!" Kevin exclaimed waving to the large building in front of them as the three got into line. When they finally managed to get in the door they took in the surroundings. The room was packed, the walls were covered with photos of attractive male models in little to no clothing.
The tables were all full, people were all talking and enjoying themselves creating a loud sports bar like atmosphere. The line had only grown longer since they got there. It had begun making a line down the block. "I'm going to ask about getting us a table!"
Kevin wandered up to the front where a small brown desk was placed. He rang the bell that was sitting on the table a few times making a very feminine man looked up from his computer monitor annoyed. His hair was long and frilly. The tips had been painted pink and it made a rim around his head. Kevin spoke with the man for a few seconds his compact face scrunching with distaste. He rolled his eyes and went back to looking at his computer as Kevin headed back over to Matt and Marcy. "I know the guy who works the counter here. He's a little strange, but he hooked us up with a table!"
"Awesome! Maybe he can get us some free ice cream!" Matt asked with a hopeful smile.
Patting Matt's head with affection Kevin let out a small chuckle. "I wouldn't push it sweety. He isn't that good of a friend."
A soft winded sigh escaped Marcy's lips before she looked over at him. "So he's an ex then, great! This is just great."
"Hey if you don't want to be here you can leave!" Kevin replied looking back over to her with an annoyed growl."Honestly, I would have a lot more fun if you did."
Marcy huffed, crossed her arms, then wandered over to Matt and tugged him away. "That's the whole reason I came. To stop that from happening." She grumbled.
Matt looked at the two of them with, beginning to get anxious. "Can you two please stop fighting? We are going out to dinner as best friends! I don't want it to be ruined."
Suddenly a deep voice spoke up startling Matt. "Well aren't you a little peacemaker! That's so adorable!"
Matt spun around surprised, and Kevin looked at the figure with a calculated smile. He was built like a tank. His arms and legs the size of small boulders. His face though muscled, looked feminine. He extended his hand to Matt and looked him over, his forest green eyes slowly looking over Matt's body. Matt extended his own trembling hand towards the mass of hand. His wavy brown hair began to shake as he chuckled. Marcy looked him over once and spoke up before anybody else had a chance. "Are you the guy who Kevin screwed so we could get a table?"
The waiter looked over at her and sighed letting his hands fall. "You must be Marcy," The waiter looked over at Kevin. "I get what you mean, she is a little bit of a bitch."
Kevin smirked, extending his hand. "It's about time somebody agreed with me Dan."
"Amen brother," Dan turned around and shook his hand. Their hands lingered and Kevin coughed before letting go. Matt turned around again and looked over to Matt. "So what's your name cutie?"
Marcy turned bright red and stormed over to Dan, ignoring his massive size growled through her teeth. "He's my future boyfriend you nasty homo, so keep your meaty hunks off him. And keep your eyes away from him too!"
"Ouch," Dan replied sarcastically looking down at her unamused. "Your words sting me to my very non-existent soul!" He covered his heart and dropped his voice to a deep threatening voice. "You don't scare me princess. I've heard better threats from a toddler." He looked back over at Kevin who was obviously pleased, and smiled letting his voice returning. "Let me show you to your table!" He wandered down the long row of tables passing rows of people who all seemed to fall silent and gawk at the large hunk of muscle that was Dan.
Once they got near the back of the room the voices seemed to return to their conversations. "Well here you are! Sorry it's in the back, but it's all we had on such short notice. You should have called me ahead of time Kevi, I could have gotten you a better seat!" Dan pulled the closest of four chairs out for Kevin, but Marcy sat down into it quickly, glaring at Dan annoyed.
"Let me," Kevin exclaimed before running around to the other side of the table and pulling the chair back for Matt. "Have a seat Maddy!"
Matt looked over at Dan still somewhat intimidated by his stature and sat down quietly. "Thank you." He mumbled trying not to make eye contact with anybody.
"Don't worry about it!" Kevin replied before pulling his chair beside Matt. "Hey Dan, can we get some waters and a few menus please?"
"Sure thing sugar!" Dan replied with a wink and headed off towards the kitchen.
Kevin leaned over towards Matt and put his arm around him. "He's a real teddy bear, don't be scared of him okay?"
"You mean he's soft and huggable?" Matt asked, looking over to Kevin with a timid expression.
"Totally! He's one of the nicest guys I know!" Kevin explained with a chuckle.
"So, do you love him then?" Matt asked his eyes flicking to the table.
Kevin looked at Matt surprised and squeezed his hand tighter on Matt's shoulder. "I love you Maddy! I can never love another!" He looked over and saw Marcy glaring at him with malice.
Shrugging his shoulders, and wincing in pain as Kevin's grip tightened. "Kevi, why are you pressing my shoulder so hard?"
"WHAT?" Marcy cried out looking at the two of them surprised. "Is that all you have to say to his love confession? Why he's pressing your shoulder!"
"It's not the first time he's said it." Matt replied trying to pull his shoulder free. "And just like before Kevi, I like you as a best friend."
"HA!" Marcy giggled out as she began to smile. "That means I don't have to worry about you anymore!" She pointed at Kevin with a victorious grin. "So you love me then right Matt?"
"Nope!" Matt replied as he was finally able to shrug himself free of Kevin's grasp. "You're my other best friend too! I like you as my best friend as well."
Marcy looked at him shocked, her finger falling as her smile died in reaction to Matt's blunt rejection. "What? B-But why not?"
"Because you and Kevi are my best friends... Why would I ever want to choose between the two of you?" Matt mumbled still unable to make eye contact with either of them. "I love you both as my best friends. I can't choose between the two!"
"It's ok Marcy." Kevin cooed glaring at her with a fake smile. "You get used to it."
"Well aren't you the cutest thing! You have two little fawns!" Dan giggled returning with three water glasses and three menus. "I have half a mind to take you home and mmmh!"
"Excuse you?" Kevin growled looking up to Dan. "Watch your fucking mouth Dan, before I knock out your teeth!"
"Oh? Does somebody have a little crush?" Dan replied with a sick smile.
"Oh please, you already know I do. I come here all the time and whine about it!" Kevin's voice dropped off leaving a murderous stare.
"Tsk Tsk." Dan replied as he put a water glass in front of Matt. "Not exactly the best manners that one. Still, he is a really cute guy, so I guess it makes sense!"
"Um... I think your a nice person and all Mr. Waiter, but I don't really like going over to other people's houses. I always feel awkward." Matt took a deep breath, then looked up at him trying to speak with as much courage as he could muster. "Although I wouldn't mind taking you home too..." Everybody at the table gasped. Matt turned bright red as their eyes all turned to him. "Maybe you can join us sometime! We can play monopoly or something! You could join the three of us!" The group all let out soft sighs and looked at each other with a cheesy grin.
"Are you asking me on a date punkin?" Dan hummed before setting down the menus. "I'd love to! But if we're going to get together that means you'll need to know my name." He looked to Kevin with a mischievous smile. "You'll be screaming it out later..."
"Gross!" Marcy muttered under her breath.
"Dude back off Dan, or I'll seriously knock your teeth in." Kevin threatened.
"Oh please Kevin, you know I'm married! I'd never cheat on my husband. He is pretty cute though, I meant in monopoly. I'm a killer for those rent prices." Seeing both Marcy and Kevin growing irritated Dan rolled his eyes. "I'll give you some time to decide what you want and be right back. Y'all a bunch a haters!"
"Kevi!" Matt pouted looking over at him as Dan wandered off towards another table. "You're scaring off my new friend!"
"He's not your friend Matt!" Kevin hissed before he took a drink of water. "He's not somebody you want to get close to, he's a snake and the second you trust him you're as good as dead."
"So you slept with him." Marcy started with a looking over at one of the mostly nude posters.
"Ye- No! I would never sleep with him!" Kevin cried out raising his eyes in shock.
"So you did, you slept with Dan!" Marcy teased, repeating the tune in beat with the song that was playing softly around them.
"It's none of your business ok?" Kevin replied setting down his menu annoyed.
"Look can we move past this please?" Matt asked, his voice beginning to tremble. "You too are being mean to each other, and it's scaring me."
Marcy continued to pester Kevin, ignoring Matt's plea. "Look, I just want to know why you're so mad about Dan. You're so testy all of a sudden, and I wanna know why!"
"That's not what this about and you know it!" Kevin growled slightly louder as their eyes locked.
"P-Please..." Matt whimpered, "Just stop..."
"I think it's nasty you had to bring us to this slut house!" Marcy continued ignoring Matt's whimpers. "I think you just wanted to bring Matt here to pervert him!"
"Pervert him?" Kevin cried out, his voice raising louder than Marcy's. "How do I pervert somebody who is simple? I can't push him one way or another, he has to make the decision himself!"
"Oh please," Marcy cried out as her voice became shrill. "You and I both know you have been trying to ruin him since day one!"
"That's not how that works, and you know that!" Kevin slammed his fist on the table losing "IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU JUST WANT TO SCARE MATT AWAY FROM ME-"
"STOP IT!" Matt cried out silencing the two as he stood up. "Why are you two doing this? I thought we were going to have dinner like three friends..." Matt's eyes began to quiver like shimmering moons as his first tears fell. "Why can't we just be friends?" He cried out before dashing off towards the large hanging bathroom sign.
"Matt come back!" Kevin cried out behind him, but the second he got to the door he dashed himself against it before running into the closest stall and locking it. The second he sat on the seat he broke down and began sobbing.
The door opened again a few seconds later and he tried to keep himself from crying so loudly. "Maddy...? Are you in here?" He asked as he began walking towards the stall.
"C-Can you p-please just go away... P-Please?" Matt sobbed as he lifted his legs and sat in fetal position. "I j-just want to be a-alone..."
"Come on Maddy..." Kevin cooed softly through the stall door. "Can you just come out of the stall and talk to me, please?"
"N-No..." Matt cried out his voice broken and as his tears rolled off his chin and fell onto his jeans.
"Look Maddy..." Kevin started trying to sound as calm as possible. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to yell..."
Matt took a deep breath trying to keep his tears at bay as they fell in a continuous stream. "Why are you being like this...? You a-a-and M-Marcy... I don't g-get it..."
"Oh Maddy..." A few steps forward echoed into the bathroom and then a slump against the stall wall. "I know it's not fair, but you can't just expect things to be the same forever. One of these days you're going to have to see that."
"B-But why?" Matt asked sniffling and wiping his nose.
"It's because we love you Maddy, we always have." Kevin coughed out nervously. "We both love you, there's no changing that..."
"Why not!" Matt yelled out, suddenly feeling anger course through him as he pounded his fist against the stall side. "Why can't you just be my best friend like you were before? I don't get it!"
"Maddy..." Kevin sighed again, more defeated than before. "I just can't handle the thought of living without you. Best friend just isn't good enough for me anymore..."
"What is it you want from me Kevin?" Matt asked, his sobbed out as his pain returned.
"I..." Kevin started before falling silent. "I want you to look at me like I'm the only one in the room..." He took in a deep breath before continuing, his own voice shaking. "I want you to choose me over her..."
"But she's my best friend too..." Matt whimpered as he tried to wipe his eyes again. "How can I choose between you and her.? We have all been best friends since I was little! You two were always a few years older than me, but you both always wanted to hang out with me. You both have always treated me so good... How could I choose between the two of you?"
"But I'm BETTER THAN HER!" Kevin yelled his anger exploding through the door making Matt recoil. "I've been here since the beginning, SHE hasn't. She wasn't there when your dad started to drink. When you were beaten who took care of you? MARCY? I WAS THERE THROUGH ALL OF IT! HOW CAN SHE BE CONSIDERED YOUR BEST FRIEND WHEN SHE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW YOUR DAD WAS A MONSTER!"
"STOP IT!" Matt screamed out, jumping forward and slamming the door open. "STOP YELLING AT ME KEVIN! IT'S NOT FAIR!" He started punching Kevin's toned chest trying to silence him. "Everybody. Always. Yells. At ME!" He burst out in tears again his punches become weak flails.
Kevin took in a deep breath as he watched the tears falling from Matt's eyes. They sparkled in the light as they hit the ground and his chest deflated. "I'm sorry Maddy... " He apologized, wrapping his arms around Matt and slumping the two down against the wall bringing them into an awkward hug. Matt buried his face into Kevin's shoulder sobbing. "I'm so sorry Maddy. I didn't mean to raise my voice..." He ran his fingers through Matt's short brown trying to calm him. "I'm so sorry..."
Matt felt his body shaking as he sobbed, he was pinned into the hug Kevin had wrapped him in. His tears began to spill over onto Kevin's pants. He sat there sobbing for a few moments as Kevin tried to comfort him. When he finally had the will to speak his words came out barely above a whisper. "What changed...?"
"We all did..." Kevin replied kissing the top of Matt's head. "As we grew older you stayed the same. We changed and became people who cared for you, but you stayed the same beautiful soul that you were all those years ago." He paused for a second letting his fingers rest on Matt's head. "Sometimes I forget that you're still only a boy inside..." He squeezes his arm around Matt tighter. "I forget how much he did to you, and how much it affected you."
Matt suddenly looked up at Kevin, his eyes wide and brimming with tears. "Why did he do it Kevi? Was I a bad boy?" Matt asked before his tears streamed down again. "Why...?"
"I don't know Maddy..." Kevin pulled Matt in squeezing him tightly. "I don't know..."
A squeak is heard as the door opened. "Knock Knock!" Dan's voice echoed through the room questioning as he walked into the room. You both fully dres-" He fell silent as Kevin's head turned up towards him. "Sorry, Marcy said she had to go home so she took the bus. I wanted to make sure you two were okay..."
"Piss off Dan!" Kevin replied in a guttural hiss. "It's not a good time."
"I'm sorry," Dan backed up a little more. "I just figured you would want to know... My bad." He turned around and rushed out of the room.
Matt sniffled and looked up at Kevin in confusion, his eyes wider than they were before. His tears slowly coming to a stop. "Why are you so mean to him? He seems like a nice guy..."
"He's not baby," Kevin replied returned his focus to Matt and resumed running his fingers through Matt's hair. "Dan is, Well he's Dan! We met through a mutual friend, and at one point we were dating. He was always so sweet and kind, then one day out of the blue, he asked me to hide a large stack of drugs at my place. I said no, but that didn't stop him. He tried to hide them at my place anyway and I caught him in the act."
"What did you do?" Matt asked looking at the door suddenly nervous that Dan might come back.
"I called the cop's silly." Kevin giggled before he kissed the top of Matt's head. "He was arrested that day, and when he got out he started working here. I guess at some point he got married, but I know. It seems like he still wants to get back at me. If I had thought about this more clearly, I definitely would not have brought you two here tonight. Dan is not a good person Maddy." He lifted Matt's head and made sure to make direct eye contact. "Remember, that big smile is his con. All he wants to do is use you, and he doesn't care who he steps on to do so."
"So he didn't want to play monopoly with us?" Matt asked in a disheartened voice.
"No Maddy. I don't think he did." Kevin replied with a weak laugh.
"Well then I don't like him..." Matt mumbled before burying his head back into Kevin's shoulder. Taking in a deep breath of Kevin's scent then let it out slowly.
Kevin giggled at his response and kissed his head again. "That's the reason Maddy? He didn't want to play monopoly with you, so you're mad at him?" Kevin began to laugh and Matt pulled away from Kevin's shoulder and looked up at him with his puffy eyes. "See this is the reason-" He paused, the two looking over as a second loud squeak filled the room. It was a taller man this time who spotted the two on the floor. He smirked with a sensual smile, then turned around and left.
Watching as the man left, he waited till the door shut before Matt looked back over to Kevin. "What do you mean? The reason for what?"
"The reason I love you..." Kevin replied looking at him. "You are so simple that I can't help but love you. You say what you think, and you're not afraid of the repercussions." He glances over to the door quickly then back over to Matt. "I love you Maddy!" Kevin pushes his face forward and presses his lips to Matt's and begins to kiss him.
Matt sat there shocked at his advance. When he realized that Kevin had no intention of stopping, he pulled away and looked at Kevin with shock. "K-Kevi! Why did you do that?"
"I uh..." Kevin lets go suddenly and pushes Matt back enough so that he could stand up, his cheeks burning bright red. "N-Never mind why. Let's just go get you some ice cream ok?"
Jumping to his feet, Matt's face brightens as his shocked was replaced with joy. "Y-You mean it?" He scooted forward and hug's Kevin, squealing in delight before rushing for the door. What kind of ice cream do they have here!" He asked wiping his nose quickly.
"Every kind. You just have to pick one." Kevin responded, readjusting his shirt as his voice changed into one of longing. "Maybe you can pick a favorite one of these days."
"You know I can't do that!" Matt giggled as he held the door open for Kevin. "I love too many different flavors to pick just one!"
Kevin sighed as he walked towards him. "I know you do Maddy... I know you do."
