It's All Fun and Games...

"Park Place again!" Matt cried out victoriously as Ian reluctantly moved his dog token forward. "You must really enjoy paying me fifteen hundred dollars!"

"Yeah, yeah, hold your horses." Ian grumbled as Matt eagerly stuck his hand out for his rent money. "You know, you really are a shrewd businessman for somebody who enjoys the more simple things in life."

Kevin and Amanda both laughed, making Matt look at them confused. "What's so funny? I like all kinds of things, not just the simple ones!" He looked down at his robe and smiled before looking back up to Ian, who was mortgaging properties and selling his houses. "You know, I think we can work something out between the two of us!" He said in a sly tone. "You made me this fantastic robe, and I really, really like it. So I am going to let you stay rent-free on park place from now on!" Kevin let out a small groan, and Amanda looked over to him speaking in a low tone.

"Does he always play like this?"

"He just wants to keep playing, that's all." Kevin replied with a tired grin.

A soft sigh escaped Amanda's lips. "I know we said we would play game, but this isn't game anymore. We both lost hours ago. He just keeps giving free rent." Ian looked over to her with an apologetic face as Matt reached for the dice.

"You know hun, you don't need to stay. If you need to get back to the dorm to get your paper done that's totally fine. I can finish up here and head back over when it's finished." He paused for a moment, observing the board. Matt had hotels on almost every property, and Ian had only a few measly spaces between large stunts of monopolies. "Which may be sooner than you think."

Kevin let out a smirk as he stood up. "Good luck with that, this could go on for another few hours if you let it." He started towards the kitchen and went for the fridge. "Does anybody want something to drink?" He offered as the three looked over to him.

"No thank you," Ian replied as he returned his gaze towards the tokens on the board.

"No," Amanda stated in a casual voice.

"Yes please!" Matt called out, "Do we have any juice left?"

"I think we ran out, but I can go to the store real quick and get some if you want?" Kevin offered as he checked the fridge.

"Okay!" Matt answered as Kevin shut the door. "Can you make sure to get the cranberry juice mixed with the raspberry this time please? I don't like the apple mix one."

"Sure thing sweety." Kevin replied while heading for the door. He leaned over when he was above Matt and quickly kissed the top of his head. "I'll be back soon. Don't let Ian beat you while I'm gone!"

A giggle erupted from Matt as he looked up at Kevin. "I won't, I promise!" He turned his gaze back to Ian, his grin remaining. "Your turn!"  A sudden knock at the door surprised him, turning his attention back up towards the door. "Who could that be?"

"I don't know Maddy, let's find out!" Kevin replied while looking through the peephole. His grin faded immediately, and a sigh escaped his lips. "It's them..." He said, sending shivers down Matt's spine. "Do you want to go see a movie with me Maddy? We can take the back window and-"

"No," Matt spoke up, interrupting Kevin. "I think it's time I finally talk to them."

"Are you sure Maddy? Making up with Ian is one thing, but this is the guy who-"

"I know what he did." Matt interrupted again, this time a quiver of fear in his voice. "I need to talk to them sometime, even if I don't want to. Who knows they might just want to say goodbye." Matt stood up and opened the door, exposing his parents to the bright light of the dorm.

"Hey baby," Rebecca said with an anxious smile. "Is now a bad time? I would really like to talk to you if you have a second."

"I was just playing a game of monopoly with my friends." Matt replied nervously as he looked at her, making sure to not avert his gaze.

"We were just putting it away though." Ian spoke up as he started picking up the pieces for the game. "Matt won again, he's really good at this game. I've never seen him lose."

"You must be Matt's parents. Good meeting you." Amanda said in a friendly but cautious tone.

"It's nice to meet you too," Rebecca replied with a gracious smile. Turning her attention to Kevin, she smiled at him. "It's good to see you too Kevin."

Keith let out a grunt making Kevin scowl. "Yeah, you too Rebecca, not so much him though."

"Do you have a problem you little sh-"

"Keith!" Rebecca spat out, quickly cutting him off. Turning her attention back to Matt, she noticed his robe. "What a fun outfit, where did you ever find such a thing?"

"Ian made it for me," Matt replied in a soft tone as he began playing with the cape. "He's really good at making things."

"Well maybe he could make me a scarf some time!" Rebecca smiled as she looked him over. "It really is nice work, I can't see any stitching or anything! You really are skilled Ian."

"Thank you ma'am," Ian mumbled embarrassed at the compliment. "It wasn't all that big a deal."

"Can we get a move on?" Keith grumbled, continuing his glaring contest with Kevin. "I want to get out of here as much as this brat wants me gone."

"Nothing's stopping you Keith." Kevin replied in a deep throaty growl.

"Kevi," Matt spoke up, breaking his focus. "Maybe you go get that juice? I think I should talk to them alone." Kevin opened his mouth to speak, but fell silent and nodded his head. "If you need anything else, call me. If something goes wrong," He glared at Keith again for a moment. "call me, and I'll come running."

"Thank's Kevi," Matt replied as Ian and Amanda continued cleaning the game up behind them.

"May we come in Matt?" Rebecca asked in a hopeful tone. "I think we should probably all be sitting down for this."

"That's okay, I guess." Matt answered hesitantly as Kevin brushed passed Rebecca, and headed out the door. "We can sit on the beds."

"Thank you," Rebecca said graciously as she started inside.

Ian spoke up as he put the lid on the game. "I think Amanda and I are going to head out too. Thank you for inviting us to the game Matt. We really had a good time!" Matt nodded his head and waited for them to head out. When they reached the door, Ian turned around and gave Matt a tight hug, whispering in his ear. "If you need somewhere to go after this ends, you know where to find us."

"Thank you," Matt whispered back in a grateful tone as he pulled away from the hug. "Have a good night!" He watched as Ian went back out the door and shut it lightly behind him. Turning around, he saw Keith and Clare were sitting on his bed. "Could you maybe sit on the other bed? That's the one I sleep on."

"What's wrong with me sitting on this one?" Keith objected in a frustrated tone, as Clare stood up.

"N-Nothing," Matt whimpered, recoiling instantly.

Rebecca pulled Keith up, and the two shuffled to the other bed. "That's fine honey, we don't wanna make you uncomfortable, right Keith?" A hesitant silence took over after Keith grunted.

Matt sat down on his bed and looked at the two of them. Keith looked older, his hair had grayed, and his muscle mass seemed to have faded. "So, what did you want to talk about?"

"Well honey, I think you may have heard once or twice, but your father..." Rebecca started, unsure of what to say.

"I'm dying Mathew," Keith grunted in a low tone.

"Oh, yeah I heard about that." Matt murmured, unsure what to say.

"That's it? After all the time and money I invested in you. That's all you say?" Keith spat in disgust.

"Keith, you need to settle down, you're scaring him." Rebecca said as Matt's body tensed.

"This little ungrateful piece of shit is neutral to the death of his father! How do you expect me to react?" Keith demanded, anger growing more prevalent.

"In case you forgot Keith," Matt said in a soft tone that slowly began to grow as he sat on the edge of the bed. "You beat me to the edge of death and permanently damaged my body in ways I will never heal from." He paused for a second, his emotions beginning to take over. "This robe was made because of you. You left marks that will never heal, and for that I will never forgive you. To be honest, when I first found out you were dying, I laughed. I was happy!" Keith's face turned red, and Matt smiled smugly.

"Matt, that's not fair, that was a long time ago. He is a changed man!" Rebecca stated, trying to diffuse the tension.

Standing up in frustration, Matt glared at her. "He could be the president of the world for all I care. He did things to me that no parent should. He may have helped create me, but for the rest of my life, I will never call him father. He lost that title when he gave me my scars. Those were his legacy to me, and I refuse to acknowledge him as a parent." Matt's anger began to boil.

"You ungrateful bastard!" Keith spat, standing up suddenly as his face turned red.

"What are you going to do? Beat me?" Matt growled, "You already did that, and if memory serves, you are dying already. Do you want me to cut it short for you?"

"What did you just say boy?" Keith practically screamed as he began fumbling for his belt.

"THAT'S ENOUGH!" Rebecca screamed as the two of them braced for a fight. "You two have been at ends for long enough. That ends NOW, Keith, sit down this instant and apologize. Matt, you do the same!" The two stood there looking at her in defiance. Then they both sat down silently. "Now, we didn't come here to fight. We only came to tell you the news. I thought it be best that you two try and make up before he passed away. I can tell you two are always going to be at odds, but you both need to be at peace with each other before he goes. Otherwise you're going to feel guilty about it for the rest of your life!"

Matt looked at Keith with distaste, his anger and irritation burning inside him. "Momma, you know I can't do that. He ruined my life!"

"Doesn't look ruined to me." Keith grumbled,

"That's because you can't see my body you psychopath." Matt cried out, losing his temper. "Not like you need a reminder. You raped it enough remember." Matt spat as Rebecca gasped in shock. "You mean you didn't know momma? He knows my body almost better than my boyfriend does."

"I-Is that truth Keith?" Rebecca asked in a low tone.

"I was drunk, maybe I did, maybe I didn't. What's the point of trying to repent. I'm a dead man, and I'm hellbent regardless-" A slap echoed throughout the room, Keith raised his hand to his face immediately.

"How dare you," Rebecca growled, "He is our son, and you used him like that? No wonder he was scared of you!"

"Look I told you this was a bad idea, I got drunk and did a lot of things to him. That just happens to be one of them." Keith grumbled in a low tone. "It's not like I enjoyed it. I thought he was sleeping with you-"

"So you raped him?" Rebecca interrupted furiously as she stood up. "You're right, you are hellbent." She looked over to Matt, her eyes begging forgiveness. "Matt, I'm so sorry, I didn't know he did that. I wouldn't have ever brought him near you if I had known."

"I told you he was a monster, but you didn't listen to me." Matt mumbled, his eyes beginning to water. "You never listened to me, years of him hurting me and you did nothing! Did you know I have a prescription for roofies?" They both looked at him in surprise. "That's right, I need to take a drug that makes me black out, just so I can sleep! I have nightmares about all the things he did to me."

"Why didn't you tell me about that?" Rebecca questioned, ashamed of her lack of knowledge.

"Because I thought maybe you could be happy if you didn't know." Matt replied, his tone dropping. "I thought that perhaps if you didn't know about the horrible things he did, then you would be able to forgive him. Then he could die in somewhat peace."

Keith sat there silently as Rebecca gasped. "You mean, you wanted the two of us to get back together, so you hid your torment?"

"Yeah..." Matt mumbled, looking at Keith, then Rebecca. "I wanted you to be happy. I always have, you're my momma."

"You were willing to let it all lay for my sake?" Rebecca mumbled, repeating his earlier statement.

"Well, I tried to." Matt mumbled, his cheeks beginning to burn as he looked over at his pillow. "I accidentally let it slip earlier. I'm sorry if that made you mad."

"Well I'm the bad guy, boo hoo. It doesn't change the fact that you're ungrateful." Keith growled as Rebecca looked at Matt. "I came here to apologize, that's it. I'm not proud of how I raised you, but you turned out okay. I think I'll leave with that." He stood up and started for the door.

"Don't move," Rebecca spat at him, turning her neck sharply. "When we get home, we are going to have a very long talk. You still need to apologize to Matt for your ever-growing list of sins."

"I'll do no such thing. I don't have to explain myself to him, or apologize." Keith replied, continuing his angry stomps towards the door.

Matt looked over to Keith with disdain, then back to Rebecca. She was crying, and Matt's heart broke. "It's okay momma, don't cry. I may not like him, but you're still my momma, and you raised me good. Please don't cry..."

Rebecca's silent tears continued to fall as she looked at her son. She seemed genuinely unhappy, and it bothered Matt. "You raised me just fine on your own momma! I grew up, I made friends, I got a boyfriend, and I'm mostly done with college! Not just any parent could do that! Growing up may have been hard, but you did your best!" She nodded her head and took a few steps forward, wrapping her arms around her son.

"I love you baby," She whispered through a broken sob. "You have grown into such a good strong man. I hope you are happy, and maybe one day you will have kids of your own! You will be a great father, somehow I just know it."

"Let's go, I need to get to the hospital for my radiation." Keith commanded as he reached for the door.

Rebecca let go, looking at her son with pride. "I love you very much baby, I promise I won't try and make you see him again."

"Don't worry about it momma, you just focus on making yourself better. I have Kevi now,  he's going to take care of me." Matt said with a soft smile, making her chuckle through her tears.

"Well then, he better do a good job! Otherwise, I'll have to come teach him some manners!" Rebecca replied with a soft smile as she started for the door.

"Hey Keith," Matt called across the room towards him. Getting no response, he continued. "I know you can hear me. I just want you to know that despite your alcohol-induced parenting, you taught your son one thing." He paused for a moment, hoping Keith would respond. Getting no answer, he continued. "The one thing you taught me is that no matter how evil somebody acts towards you, if you are nice to just one other person, then you will always find comfort in them."

Opening the door with a sigh, Keith started out the door letting out a simple grunt. Rebecca turned around and gave him a sympathetic smile. "I'll try and call you soon sweety. Have a good rest of your night." Matt nodded his head as she headed out the door.

The door shut as they left leaving Matt alone in the dorm. Fear and exhaustion swept over him, and the desire to sleep began to gnaw at him. Reaching for his phone, he went to Kevin's face and pressed the call button. The phone began to ring, and it began echoing outside the door. Opening the door casually, Kevin came striding in, pulling his phone out to check it. "How did it go?" Kevin asked, putting the container of juice on the table and heading towards him.

"It went okay. I want to go to bed though, wanna come snuggle with me?" Matt asked in a hopeful tone as he lay down on the bed.

"Sure Maddy, I would love that." Kevin replied, starting towards him casually.

"Hey Kevi?" Matt stated suddenly,

Kevin looked up, "What's up?"

"How do we make babies?"

Kevin's mouth dropped, "W-Why, do you want to have a kid with me?"

"Well I don't know, Momma said I would make a good daddy, and I didn't know how that would work." Matt yawned as he adjusted in the bed.

"I don't think if that's a conversation I want to get into right now Maddy. Maybe ask me about it tomorrow and I'll show you?" Kevin wondered as he kicked off his shoes and lay down beside him, wrapping his arms around Matt.

"Okay," Matt mumbled, adjusting himself against Kevin. "However it works, I want to make sure that it's with you."

"That sounds like fun Maddy. An adventure I would love to go on with you." Kevin replied, yawning as well.
