Chapter 23: Secret, again

3rd Person's POV
The boy stares straight to the ceiling as he sighed in sadness.

He will never forget the news that he received earlier. Tears slowly formed in the corner of his eyes. He can't accept the fact on what his state is now.

"Wh-why? Why do I have to go through this?" He asked himself, his voice shaking.

Yume's POV
"Yume, you're back!" Rei-san greeted as soon as she saw me.

We are currently now at Starlight Academy's gymnasium. We are all taking turns to jump on a trampouline and do an appeal.

"How's Subaru?" Rei-san asked.

"Fine. The doctor said he needs to get some rest to recover." I replied.

"That's great!" She said

I smiled. Though, I am still worried about him that I don't want to leave him. But he insisted that I should go back to the field trip, that's what he also said to Nozomu and the others.

I sighed, "I'm still worried though." I said.

Rei-san smiled reassuringly, "I'm pretty sure he's fine." She said.

--

Lunch with one of the Masquerade members, Hime-senpai. Dream come true!

I was assigned to sit with her, so did Ako, Koharu, Mahiru and Kirara. Too bad Laura isn't here, she sat with Aria and Ichigo.

"It was amazing to have both schools visit us." Headmistress Orihime said.

I kept smiling like a weirdo, staring at my senpai. She's so beautiful!

"Yume, why won't you eat up?" She asked.

I snapped out, "Oh! Sorry! I was entranced after finding out I get to sit with you." I explained.

Everyone in the table laughed as I followed.

Subaru's POV

I stared at the paper I am holding once more as I slowly crampled it.

"Why am I going through this?" I mumbled to myself.

A knock on the door was heard as a nurse entered along with the doctor.

"Subaru, you'll be staying here longer than I thought." The doctor explained, "We have to run some tests on you." He added.

"Why?" I muttered under my breath.

"Anyways, these events will really occur like what happened to you earlier, sudden pain on your chest that leads you to not breathing properly. And because of that, you loss balance and hit your head." He explained once again.

"Events such as, sudden pain on chest, abdomen and many more. Painful swelling, especially on your feet. Shortness of breathing and--"

"Stop!" I interrupted him.

I looked up and looked at him straight in the eyes.

"Is there a cure?" I asked.

"I'm afraid so there isn't, yet. I'm not sure. A research has been developed of using stem cells to cure this sickness." He said, "For now, we're not so sure what's the progress. We are researching furthermore though." He added.

I suddenly lost hope.

Why is this happening to me?

"Sickle cell anemia, sickle cell gene can be passed down from generation to generation in a pattern of inheritance. The autosomal recessive inheritance. The mother and father must pass on the defective form of the gene for the child to be affected." The doctor explained furthermore.

Sickle cell anemia...

I have been diagnosed with this sickness.

This sickness that could lead me to death.

"Leave me alone please." I said.

They left the room.

Tears formed in my eyes as I cried silently.

"No..." I whispered under my breath, barely heard.
