Love is a fickle thing. It has some funny ways of showing, and also tricks one.
Elza's POV
Hikaru in his young days is handsome man. Girls often fall for him due to his style and gentleness.
And standing with him would be me. A woman-an embodiment of perfection.
-2nd year Middleschool-
"Hey, Elza!" A friend of mine approached me, running towards me happily.
It was Valentine's day.
"I can't wait to give these chocolates to Hikaru." She chirped.
The girls in all the schools we attend to, fancies him.
I smiled gently, "Good luck on giving it to him." I said. "How about you? You and Hikaru are so close. You're giving some chocolates to him?" She asked.
I chuckled at that remark. I don't see myself giving chocolates to Hikaru and if I did give him, he'll tease me to no end.
"I can leave him in a cold if it means I'm not giving him chocolates." I stated as I turned around.
Though, as I turned around—Hikaru was right there, standing infront of me. He has a pout on his face, a playful one.
(Just in case you don't know how he looks like when he was younger: hear you go!)
(How can he be so handsome when he was young? He's...---)
"You can't leave me in the cold to die, Elza." He said, "Why can't you give me chocolates?"
The instant he appeared, many girls were already eyes on him. Even the person I was talking to earlier.
I pushed his face that was close to mine, away. "Because you're gonna tease me to no end." I stated, walking away.
Hikaru chuckled as he started following, some girls tailing him. And even if he's following me, he was somehow able to receive all the girls' chocolates and even saying thank you.
Finally, we're alone...in the rooftop.
I sat on the bench, sighing in relief as I closed my eyes in the calm ess. I heard a shuffle beside me as Hikaru sat down beside me. I heard him exhaled deeply as the wind blew, making our hairs dance.
"You always come up here. Why?" He asked.
I hummed, "It's peaceful here." I answered as I opened my eyes and looked at him. He leaned back, his back resting on the backrest of the bench as he smiled and looked up.
He chuckled, "You're right, it's peaceful here." He said, "No disturbances or anything. It feels like it's just you and me in the world."
I don't know why but his phrase made my heart race. A small blush crept up to my cheeks.
(Also, Elza's hairstyle here is like her hairstyle when she was younger. The half ponytail with her side bangs framing her face)
I stared at him, hoping for an explanation on what he meant. He then looked at me with a genuine smile, "I like you."
And that made my heart race more.
What does he mean?
Like as romantic?
No! He might mean something like platonic.
Yes! Like, 'I like you cause you're a great friend.'
Wow, that kinda hurts.
I immediately looked down my lap as my blush grew redder.
Days passed since that unknown intention confession. I didn't bother asking Hikaru what he meant-I didn't bother knowing it also.
Today was no other day. It's just like how my usual school days are, talking an annoying fangirl who wants me to walk her through Hikaru.
"Please, Elza! I know you two are close." The girl pleaded.
Please! I just want one day without dealing any of you.
I then felt an arm around my shoulders and looked up to the right, seeing Hikaru's face...close again. And the proximity made me turn faintly red, my eyes widened as my mouth went ajar. My heart beated fast once again.
"Elza, do you have a partner in the Science project?" He asked. "Ah...ah..." I stammered, "N-no...not yet."
Hikaru smiled, "Great! Let's be partners, okay?" He asked.
I gulped and pulled away from him, giving both of ourselves our own personal space. "Yeah, I don't mind." I replied with a calm smile.
Those days...
Those days...
He always does gestures that makes my heart race. And it all started on that unknown intention confession.
-1st Year Highschool-
Our school, International school, celebrates the Foundation Day every year. There are food & game stalls made by different classes, different performances and different activities for everyone and made by everyone.
"There's a firework show for tonight." Hikaru read the brochure program. Right now, he and I are walking around the school campus, checking out the different stalls around.
Hikaru had a smile on his face as he turned to look at me, "Let's watch it together." He said.
I nodded with a smile.
The wind blew, my hair flowing in the wind.
My usual half ponytail now change into a half crown french braid, with my side bangs still framing my face.
I wrapped the remaining of my hair around my neck in cold. It was nearing winter and I sure did regret not grabbing a scarf in the closet.
All the scarfs don't match my outfit, so...
"Why didn't wear a scarf?" He asked.
I frowned, "The scarfs left don't match my dress." I reasoned. He only laughed at my statement as he looks through his bag. He then pulls out a red scarf and gives it to her, "Here, this scarf will match your dress." He said.
(This dress)
I smiled, a faint blush painting my cheeks as I unwrapped my hair then wrapped the scarf around me.
I looked at him, then noticing his red cheeks, nose and ears. Then he has no scarf either. He huffs out a cold breath as I groaned and pouted.
"What?" He asked.
"You don't have a scarf!" I whined.
"Because I'm not cold." Hikaru smirked. "Really? Huh?" I taunted, "You huffed a cold breath."
Hikaru hummed, frowning. "Yeah, I'm cold a bit. But..." He trailed off then his cold hand held mine, "Now I'm not cold." He casually said.
I was stunned, my heart raced faster. He then tugged me and we started running. "Come on! They might ran out of candy gems." He said happily as we ran.
And instead of pulling away, I intertwined my fingers in his as I followed him. I laughed, "Well, we can't have them run out!" I replied.
The hours passed, and it was almost time for the firework show. Hikaru led me to a tower in the school...just the two of us.
"We can watch the fireworks better up here." He said, as we ascended the staircase to the top. I simply followed him, yet my legs are slowly reaching the limit.
This is what I get for wearing heels for the whole day!
"Stop!" Hikaru's voice made me halt. He pointed to me stilettos, "Take those off now." He demanded.
I frowned, and sat on one of the steps and took off my shoes. Now I have to climb the halfway with just socks.
But fate has other plans.
Hikaru stepped infront of me, turned around so his back will face and crouched down. "Hop on." He firmly but also softly, said.
I processed what he said for a second, then hopped on. My hand carrying my shoes and my other hand wrapped around his neck and shoulders, clutching to my other arm that has the hand holding my shoes.
With that, we climbed to the top. More like, he climbed to the top while carrying me.
"If your feet hurt, you should've told me earlier." Hikaru said. I frowned, feeling a bit guilty about that but also...enjoying this moment.
We reached the top and luckily, there was a seat on the side of the open windows there. He settled me there and sat down beside me.
We both had our sides facing the wall of the window, our heads to the side-seeing the outside world.
Soon, the fireworks lit up the sky. They ignite the night sky, overshining the stars with different bright colors. I was captivated by it.
I then felt a hand on top of mine. I looked at Hikaru and he leaned towards me.
He whispered, "You're like a cardigan." He smiled, "And I'd say you're my favorite." As he said that, he looked back to the firework show.
On the other hand, I stared at him and slowly looked back to the firework show. My heart beating fast as blush once again appeared in my cheeks. But unlike before, I smiled.
I'm alive! And back! Sorry for the long wait. I actually finished this a while ago but wattpad acted up and the chapter wasn't saved. No revision history saved either. So I started from scratch again.
