Chapter 16- Waiting for Superman
I woke up in his bed.
In one of his shirts.
With his strong arms gently wrapped around me.
God, I loved how he smelled. Whole like a forest after rain, refreshing like the open sea, a little minty, slightly sweaty, masculine...
sexy.
Before I could think further he started moving beside me, his deep breaths became unsteady, indicating him waking up. I pretended to be asleep; I didn't quite know why, but I felt it would be too embarassing otherwise. At first I could feel he was confused about the situation, but when he realized, he carefully removed his arm from my body, leaving empty space- cold space.
He got up and walked away from the bed. That was the last thing I noticed before I drifted off again.
I woke up to the smell of bacon. I turned to face the kitchen and there he stood- shirtless.
I froze, but I must have made some sound, because he turned around and looked into my eyes, revealing his impressive sixpack to me that I never wanted to unsee. "Good morning", he said with a raspy voice, "are you feeling a little bit better"
I sat up in my bed, fighting hard to focus on what he said and stroked the hair out of my face: "Definitely, thanks to you. Oh, and good morning. That smells great." I took another sniff. Appearantly I slept for at least another hour, because in that time he managed to shower, shave and make scrambled eggs and bacon. But appearantly not enough time to put on a shirt, not that I minded.
I swung my legs out of bed to sit on its edge. Strangely I really was fine. Yesterday Shawn convinced me to take as cold shower before going to bed to cool my bruises, and it worked.
Well, I didn't quite know how my face looked like yet, but both my eyes were fully open and functional, so the swelling must have gone down. I stood up and stiffly walked towards the table, trying hard to not permanently stare at his abs.
GOD- it's like he was photoshopped. He can't be real.
"I hope you like it. It's not much, but I figured you needed to eat something.", he blushed a little as he put a plate in front of me, "I still have some bread rolls if you need one."
"That would be perfect, thank you.", I said and gave him a smile. He nodded and turned around to grab them.
Even his back was perfect, are you freaking serious.
He took my plate and loaded eggs and bacon on it. Then he took his own and did the same, before sitting down opposite me.
We ate quietly, but it was the uncomfortable kind of silence. The one that made you lose your appetite. It was like there was this tension between us. All the things we need to get off our chests. Finally Shawn made the first move:
"What are you gonna do about him?", he said, after we were both finished eating and I put both our plates on the counter. He couldn't hide the hatred in his voice, and I'm sure he didn't want to.
I sighed, walked over to the bed and sat down. I put my hands on my face, half to hide my expression from Shawn, half to feel how my face turned out from yesterday. Finally I answered: "I don't know yet."
"You don't know yet. You can't be serious!", Shawn jumped up from his chair and walked towards me with long steps to hunker in front of me.
"You remember what he did to you right? It's madness to stay with him. You're better than this. You should be treated better than this. He doesn't deserve you!", he took my hands in his and I knew he was right; with everything he said he was right. I slowly nodded and looked into his eyes.
Satisfied, he sat down on the bed next to me, not letting my hands go. And there was this tension again, like there was something we needed to do, not matter the cost.
I saw how his gaze moved from me eyes to my lips and how he started leaning in. He put his hand on my cheek, caressed it carefully, like I was made of glass and I closed my eyes.
I felt him coming closer and closer, I felt his breath on my cheek, tasted his smell on my lips, but right before his lips touched mine, I turned my head: "I can't, Shawn. I'm sorry."
I almost felt the disappointment radiating from his body, but his face only showed empathy. "Why?", he simply asked.
"Because I'm still with Jackson. And I don't want to cheat on him... again."
He nooded and moved farther away from me, attempting to remove his hands from mine, but I held him back.
"But you're right. I need to break up with him. Although, I can't do it alone. Could you help me?", I looked at him with the best puppy eyes I could manage, and his face softened until he finally nodded: "Alright, lets get you dressed and then lets get it over with. The earlier the better. I had Chiara bring over clothes for you, so you'd have something to wear."
I smiled and threw my arms around his neck in a tight hug. "Thank you Shawn. You're the best"
When we pulled away he smiled: "Oh, I know Darling."
