Love Story
Don't play the song until I say :)
"Alright who's ready?" Akaashi said with a smile as he waves the bouquet of flowers, everyone getting ready to catch it.
He threw it over his shoulder as everyone tried to catch it. The lucky one, however, was Oikawa. He smiled and skipped away from Akaashi and Bokuto, the brand new married couple.
"Iwa-chan look I caught it!" He cheered as he showed his boyfriend the flowers.
With only a nod as a response, Oikawa sighed and placed the flowers on a table close by before making his way to the mini bar.
Iwaizumi didn't notice Oikawa begin to drink as he continued to talk with Tendou and Daichi who were also attending the wedding.
After a few more drinks, Oikawa was drunk and stumbled about. He stumbled to Iwaizumi and poked his cheek.
"Hey Iwa-chan~," he cooed, "lets go somewhere else and cuddle." In return he got a light shove.
"Not now. Later." Iwaizumi said as he continued to talk with Tendou and Daichi, who both looked at each other debating whether or not they should leave the two be.
Oikawa huffed and stumbled off in a drunk rage, but it wasn't bad, just the normal grumpy and grumble noises.
As he stumbled off, he bumped into some other males who Akaashi worked with. A plan quickly formed in his drunken hazed mind, not a very good one though.
"Hey handsome, come here often?" He cooed, leaning on one of them and gave them a cheeky but flirty grin.
Each of the other males smiled and found this attractive. Iwaizumi saw this, stared for a few seconds before continuing to talk with Tendou and Daichi.
Oikawa saw this and it made his heart shatter. 'He really doesn't care...' he thought to himself.
Oikawa walked away from the group of men who then cat called him and teased him to come back but he ignored them.
As he walked past Iwaizumi he mumbled, "I'll see you at home..." before making his way out the door.
The next day Oikawa woke up with an extremely painful headache. "Ow..." He grumbled as he held his head in pain, sitting up.
"Hey Iwa what happened..?" He asked as he turned to his left where his boyfriend should have been. Except he wasn't.
"Iwa?" He looked about the room, finding no trace of the other male. That is, until his eyes landed on a piece of paper next to the bed.
He grabbed it and scanned it with his eyes as best as he could.
Even with his blurry vision he was able to pick out the words.
Oikawa.
I'm sorry but we're done. Please don't talk to me again. Just because I don't give you attention for a single day you go and flirt with some other guys? I can't take that. Sorry but this is good bye.
Iwaizumi.
Oikawa stares at the note in shock, reading it again and again, hoping that it was all a dream. "No-.. Iwa wait..!"
He reached over and grabbed his phone, and quickly called him only to go straight to voice mail.
He had been blocked.
Oikawa sat there in silence as tears began to roll down his cheeks and land softly on the note, making the pen ink smudge.
'A life without Iwa -chan..?' He thought to himself as it finally set in. He was gone forever.
The tears continued to fall, as his cries of pain echoed through the now empty house.
"Please don't go..!" He sobbed to the air, as if that would magically make him appear again.
And just like that, all the memories they shared came flooding into his mind all at once.
He was gone. He wasn't coming back.
Days later, Oikawa was laying on his sofa in silence as he stared at the ceiling. He hadn't left his house since that day.
A few people, like Hinata, came to check on him but he just ignored them and continued to stare up in an emotionless state.
They left after a while and he continued to lay there. All except one, Hinata.
"Oikawa-san, everything will be fine." He said, giving him his signature grin to try and cheer him up, but it did nothing.
"He's gone Hinata..." He said quietly, not using his nickname.
"Everything will work out, don't worry, you have all of us to help you." He tried to sound confident but he was clearly worried for his former rival.
Oikawa shook his head. Hinata sighs and stood up, leaving with a quiet 'bye'.
Days turned into weeks. Weeks turned into months.
By this point, Oikawa has lost all hope, he never left his house. It was thanks to his friends that he was still alive as they would bring food daily and make sure he ate.
He did eat, but not much. He had lost weight, becoming underweight and his eyes had dark circles under them from a lack of sleep.
It was, however, a day when no one came to check on him.
He stared at the ceiling like always, his thoughts empty and is face emotionless. Until he heard a laugh.
He glanced around but saw no one, then he recognised the laugh as that of Iwaizumi's. Iwaizumi... and just like that, the tears began to fall once again. He couldn't stop hearing his voice.
'Oi Shittykawa get your ass over here.'
'Dumbass what the hell was that? Hahaha!'
More and more memories continued to flood back.
Suddenly, his door was thrown open which made him jump and snap out of his thoughts.
"Hey hey hey Oikawa!" Bokuto cheered as him and Akaashi walked in.
"Oikawa, how are you feeling- have you been crying again?" Akaashi asked as they walked over to him.
Oikawa gave no reply which made the dark haired male sigh.
"Why not just find him and show him you still love him?" Bokuto said bluntly, which earned him a slap on the head from Akaashi.
Remaining silent, he shook his head. Akaashi was about to speak when Bokuto cut him off.
"You know Oikawa, things aren't going to get better by just sitting here." Bokuto began. "You need to get up and either find him and prove you love him, or get out there and forget him. Lying here for days on end will never help you feel better."
Both were shocked that he was able to think of something smart to say.
"Bokuto is right..." Akaashi said, snapping out of his shocked daze. "You should try and come out with us." He said with a smile.
After thinking about it for a minute or two, he sighed and sat up. "Fine..." he mumbled, he had nothing else to do so he might as well kill extra time, he thought.
And so the three of them left his house and made their way to a local bar to have a drink and catch up.
Oikawa stayed quiet, giving small nods and hums as answers.
As they talked, they heard one of the workers go onto the stage that was there for performances.
"Anyone want to come up on stage and sing?" They called.
Both Akaashi and Bokuto raised their hands and nominated Oikawa.
"Wait what? No I don't want to." He said as he slouched down, trying to hide.
"Come on bro, you sound really good!" Bokuto cheered and Akaashi nodded in agreement.
Oikawa sighed and went on stage and took the mic.
Play the song now
He thought about what to sing as all the eyes turned to him. He then remembered one song and took a breath as he began to sing.
Just as he started, the door opened and in walked Iwaizumi. He was coming to meet with Bokuto and Akaashi since they invited him without telling either of them about the other one joining.
He looked up on stage, blinked and was about to leave until the words started coming out of Oikawa's mouth, making him freeze.
"We were both young when I first saw you, I close my eyes and the flashback starts I'm standing there... On a balcony in summer air..."
Iwaizumi made his way towards Bokuto and Akaashi's table with an annoyed face.
"Why didn't you tell me he was here?" They both shushed him, though, and continued to listen to Oikawa sing.
Iwaizumi sighed and sat with them, listening too as memories flooded back.
Oikawa continued to sing, unaware of his presence. As he sung more, he began to feel more confident though more sad as that song was nothing more than a sad memory for him now. He tried to ignore the pain, but it was flooding through his mind.
"I was crying on the staircase begging you please don't go!" Tears began to form in his eyes but he blinked them away.
"And I said, 'Romeo take me somewhere we can be alone, I'll be waiting all there's left to do is run. You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess, it's a love story baby just say 'yes'..."
Everyone was enjoying the song, couples that were dotted about gave each other small smiles and leaned on the other or wrapped their arms around their partner, well, all except Iwaizumi and Oikawa. Both who were trying to not cry.
Iwaizumi began to realise how much he missed the brown haired male and his sassy personality and even his moronic antics.
'Oikawa...' He regret what he did but there was no way he would be forgiven, right?
Oikawa continued to sing, everyone in the bar sat in silence enjoying the song.
Bokuto and Akaashi watched and listened as they saw the hurt in Oikawa's eyes grow with the more he sang. Glancing to Iwaizumi, they saw that he too was hurt and felt regret. Bokuto decided to push it a bit more.
"At least he's gotten out of his house since he's been in there so long."
Akaashi hit him in a way to shut him up while Iwaizumi looked at him confused.
"He hadn't left his house since you broke up." Bokuto said which earned him another hit from Akaashi.
Iwaizumi began to feel more guilty for what he did. However, he knew better than anyone of them that it was for the best. Did he really think that, though? 'If that's true then that was months ago.. he hasn't left since then..?'
"This love is difficult but it's real..!"
'There is no way he would even consider listening to my apology, especially when I didn't even give him the chance to explain himself...' Iwaizumi thought quietly to himself.
Iwaizumi took a breath and stood up from the table which earnt him glances from the newly married couple, both of which were confused until they saw his next actions as he walked to the stage.
"I got tired of waiting, wondering if you were ever coming around..." Oikawa continued, Iwaizumi making his way towards the stage while still not being noticed.
"My faith in you was fading... When I met you on the outskirts of town, and I said..." Akaashi wanted to stop him but Bokuto shook his head as they listened.
"Romeo, save me, I've been feeling so alone..."
Iwaizumi made his way slowly between the tables.
"I keep waiting for you but you never come..."
He took a breath to calm his nerves.
"Is this in my head? I don't know what to think..."
Iwaizumi pulled the small ring off his finger.
"He knelt to the ground & pulled out a ring & said-."
Iwaizumi took Oikawa's hand and got on one knee.
"Marry me, Juliet, you'll never have to be alone, I love you & that's all I really know. I talked to your dad, go pick out a white dress. It's a love story baby, just say 'yes'..." He sang, finishing the lyrics while holding the ring out towards Oikawa who was staring down at him in shock as tears fell.
Everyone around them, who had no idea about the truth behind them, started cheering as they believed it was all planned out.
"I-Iwa-chan..." Oikawa said quietly, crying as he started in shock.
"I'm so sorry Oikawa, I never should have ignored you and I never should have cut things off because of that stupid incident... I missed you so much and I really do love you.. more than anything." Iwaizumi said as he held his head down.
"Iwa-," Oikawa but was cut off by the other.
"I know it's not enough to make you forgive me for what I did, and I wouldn't blame you if you hated me but-." This time it was Oikawa who cut off Iwaizumi.
Not with words, however, but with a kiss.
"You big dum dum... of course I would forgive you, and I'm sorry for what I did... I just wanted you to say you love me and to pay more attention to me, I was being selfish..." Oikawa said as he hung his head low.
"No, you were right to do that stuff... I really am Toruu." Iwaizimi spoke, lifting Oikawa's chin up gently.
"Did you mean it..? The proposal, I mean." Oikawa asked, trying to not get his hopes up. "Or were you just finishing the song?"
Iwaizumi shook his head and slipped the ring onto Oikawa's finger. "I meant it."
Oikawa smiled big. Both Bokuto and Akaashi smiled as they watched, glad to see Oikawa happy once again.
Arms wrapping around his waist, Oikawa was pulled in by Iwaizumi as he gently pressed his lips to the other's.
Everyone in the bar erupted into cheers for the couple, Oikawa melting into the kiss.
After a few seconds, they both pulled away, only to hug each other tightly.
"I love you, Toruu."
"I love you too, Iwa-chan."
'We were both young when I first saw you~'
I hope you all enjoyed this little one shot. I had this song stuck in my head for a while, plus I am intending to use this song in my upcoming Haikyuu!!text chat series on YouTube so this gave me a good idea of what I wanted for it. I also have Oikawa cosplay on the way if you ever wanna see me fail at being the great king! See y'all later!
