Chapter 1

I walked in my father's office, faking a smile at everyone. I sat down at the couch. "Hi." I lament.
Melody my baby sister and the oldest of the twins, entered the room smiling and jumping around. "Hi everybody!" She said using her outdoor voice.
Annabelle my 12 year old sister, who tries to be like me and copy everything I do. First of all, I don't like when people be like me. Annie (as we called her) walked in calmly and sat down next to me on the couch. Sitting closer to me than she needed to be.
Dad smiled and placed a gentle kiss on Mom's forehead. "Good afternoon my love." He said to Mom. "Good afternoon Melody." My father greeted Melody.
Derek walked into the room, and sat down on a chair. "Hello everyone. Sorry, I'm late." He said biting his lip.
Walter (Wally as we called him) skipped in behind Melody his twin. He tried to do a cartwheel into the room, but failed and landed on his bottom. He laughed at his failed attempt.
I glared at Annabelle and my perfect oldest sister Eira. "You know Eira? You have no powers like Daddy." I said taunting my oldest sister.
"Daddy!" Melody exclaimed rushing into Dad's embrace.
"Does anyone know where Brendan is?" My father asked.
"Quiet Eva," Eira hissed at me. "You do know Father has powers?"
Dad smiled and hugged Melody. "Hello darling."
"Don't be mean to Eri," Wally said to me while hugging Eira. "Don't listen to her I still love you."
Annabelle shrank back at my glare and scooted away from me.
Derek looked at us, but stayed quiet the whole time.
Eira smiled and hugged Wally. "Thank you Wally. I love you too." She said.
Dad smiled. "We're just waiting on Brendan now."
Annabelle sat and watched quietly.
Brendan ran into the room. "Sorry, sorry, sorry! I'm here now!" He said taking a seat next to Eira.
Mom smiled. "Okay, everyone is here."
"Wonderful!" Dad said as he sat Melody on his lap. "As you all know the Selection is coming fast," he started.
Eira gave a small nod. "That's why you called us here I assume."
Brendan sat up. "What is there to talk about?"
I glared at Eira and Wally. "Grandmother took away Daddy's powers when he was a boy." I explained a smug look on my face. "Like Dad, you don't have any powers and so powerless." I added staring at my fingernails.
Melody jumped on Dad's lap. "Daddy why are we having a Selection?"
"Because your older siblings are lame enough that they can't get a date without one," Annie said, trying to copy my rude attitude and be like me in every way possible.
"Eva, I have powers. Now hush, we didn't come to fight," Dad said looking at me. "We're having one because it's for the good of the people." He looked at Annie and me.
I rolled my eyes and scoffed. "Annie dear, stop copying everything I do. It's not very amusing." I said rudely to my sister and cross my arms against my chest. "Daddy, you do, but Eira does not like you when you were our age."
Annie shrank back. "I'm sorry Daddy," she said. She was closed to tears.
I smirked, when I saw Annie burst into tears. "Cry Baby." I grumbled loud enough for Annabelle to hear.
Melody stare at us, like we are crazy. "Daddy, why are Evangeline and Annabelle so mean!?"
"That's right," my father said. "But, that's no reason to say things like that."
Annie shrank back even more at Melody's questions.
Eira looked at me. "Stop Eva, you've gone too far." She said.
"I don't know Melody, but they need to stop." Dad said looking at me.
"I'm sorry..." Annie whispered at Dad's words.
I huff. "Daddy, it's the fact she's weak and I should do the Selection not her? Boys, will like me instead." I sass. But, that is a lie I do not want a Selection and get marry. I'm just saying that to bring down Eira and make her feel bad about herself.
Melody shakes her head. "Boys are gross!" She said making a face.
"You're fine Annie." My father said. He directed his full attention to me. "Your sister is not weak," Dad said. "Having no powers means nothing. It just means she is stronger elsewhere. She doesn't depend on her powers like the rest of us do."
Eira looked at me. "No father, she's right. I am weak. I can't handle myself just because I don't have powers," she said mocking hurt.
I groaned. "Daddy, she is not strong, but a pathetic and a loser. Boys never like that in a girl like herself," I added winning this argument once and for all.
Melody whine into Dad's shoulder. "Daddy, please do something to stop Eira and Evangeline fight!?" Cried Melody.
Eira groaned and walked out of the office.
"It's ok Melody, why don't you go play in your room!?" My father offered to my little sister.
"I'm a boy," Wally looked at Eira, "and I think you are the strongest." He gave Eira a big toothy grin. "Plus, I'll protect you if any of the boys are mean to you."
Eira stopped and hugged Wally. "Thank you," she said. "I hope none of them will be mean to me."
I turned around to face Wally. "She's ugly and weak! Stop, defending her but me!" I spat not believing my ears. I smirked and looked smug when Eira got up and left the room.
Melody instantly got up and jumped up and down. "Yay! Thank you Daddy! Bye!" She said rushing out of the room.
Derek nods. "Wally's right, you are better than that Eira! You're very strong, independent, and beautiful young woman and I love you no matter what!" He shouted.
Eira turned around and ran out off the room.
I glared at Derek. "What did I say!? Eira is ugly, mean, a snob, weak, and fake! Stop, defending her little behind! She will never get love if you give her that attention!" I got to admit I was jealous that my own brothers won't care about me, and wants Eira like she is a goddess and I'm forgotten!
Wally looked at the doorway deciding to go after Eira. "Daddy what should I do?" He looked at Dad pleadingly.
Derek rolled his eyes. "Shut up Eva!" He gave me a death glare.
"Eva!" Annie exclaimed. "You-you don't mean that!... do you?"
"That's enough Evangeline! Go to your room, I don't want to hear another word of this!" Dad yelled.
I looked so smug when I won my battle. "Daddy, that's all Eira's fault and the boys hates me and worship Eira like she's a goddess and forget all about me! The boys should love and protect all four of his sisters!" I said not getting up and being stubborn.
"Because you being mean," Wally walked up to me before walking out of the room.
"They do love you, but that is no reason to degrade your sister." Dad said. "Go to your room and we will talk about it later."
I held back my tears. Boys, I can't stand them!? "I am not the mean one! It's Eira!" I said staring at the ground. "But Daddy!" I added refusing to leave. "I'm 16 years old and no longer a child like whiny Eira!"
"Eira was sitting here quietly. If I recall she told you to stop, and you didn't." My father said. "You are the one who's whining. Now leave!"
"I do not whine!" I shouted winning the battle.
Brendan stood up, his hands slamming the table. "Enough! I am sick of the family fighting! We are family and we are going through our family troubles together. But, we can't keep nagging on each other!"
I tense when Brendan slam the table. "Shut up Brendan and get a life!" I snapped not really caring what he says. Since, nothing really matters to me.
"Brendan, why don't you go find Eira. You and Daniel seem to know how to console her," Dad said. "The meeting is over, everyone go to your rooms until dinner." He sat back down and placed a hand on his head.
I wince as I storm out. My own family hates me and I dislike them because of that. Oh, forget about me and let's focus on Eira.
