CH8 :The Sports Carnival

Whew boi! I like this one ;D

[Marinette's POV]

Today is the day of the sports carnival. Our school has rented out a sports oval for us to use. I'm going to win the most events so that I don't have to kiss anybody. Because of their competitive nature, Alex and Kim are participating in every single event. But I'm smart, I know that will just tire them out and cause them to lose more than they win. I've got a strategy. I've been winning all the little events that no one bothers with like the egg and spoon race. By flying completely under the radar, I'm still gathering wins without anyone seeing me as a threat or freaking out and changing the rules. Alya and Nino are both in the commentator's box announcing events and results. I've been checking in every now and then to see how everyone is doing. So far I'm in the top four along with Alex, Kim and Adrien. Alex and Kim both have three wins, whereas Adrien and I only have two. The end of the carnival is drawing nearer. At the very end, they hold an ultimate race with intense obstacle courses. Nobody has ever been able to finish it, but I'm not just anybody. I'm Ladybug.

I pass the three-legged race to see Adrien wondering around.

"Hey Marinette." Adrien says, jogging over to me. "Do me a favour and be my partner for the three-legged race? Nino is busy commentating with Alya."

"Sure. This is the last event before the obstacle course right?" I reply.

"That's right." Adrien says.

If Adrien and I win this together, we will both have three wins just like Alex and Kim which leaves the obstacle course as the decider.

Adrien puts his leg against mine and reaches down to tie us together. My eyes slowly drift towards his butt. Those little sports shorts look so cute on him. I feel my face heat up and force myself to avert my eyes. Adrien straightens up once he has finished tying and stretches his arms. I watch in marvel as his muscles tense up and then relax repeatedly.

Adrien turns to me with a smile. "You ready?"

I nod dazedly.

It wasn't hard for us to win. The three-legged race is among the little events that unfit people like to participate in for fun. But Adrien and I were not there to have fun, we were there to annihilate. So that's what we did. It was almost too good actually. Our bodies moved in sync as if we were one entity. While everyone else was stumbling around us, we had no problem sprinting together to the finish line.

"Wahoo!" Adrien exclaims happily.

He jumps up in celebration, forgetting that we are still tied together. My leg shoots up with his causing my other one to slip out from under me. I fall over, pulling Adrien back down to the ground, and he lands on top of me with a thud.

"Oww..." I breathe.

"I'm so sorry!" Adrien says, panicking to get off me.

He scrambles backwards, only to pull my leg with him.

"Ow, ow, ow! Still attached remember?" I holler. "I don't think my leg is supposed to bend that way..."

I readjust myself to a comfortable position.

"Sorry." Adrien chuckles as he reaches forward to untie our legs. "I'm not usually this clumsy."

"Ah, don't worry. I'm no stranger to clumsiness." I say. "It's probably my bad luck infecting you."

"Well, I'm no stranger to bad luck." Adrien replies.

He stands up and offers me a hand. I reach out slowly. Our fingers touch slightly, sending jolts of energy through my fingertips, and my hand immediately draws back. I hesitate and look up at Adrien. He smiles down at me kindly, his caring gaze bringing warmth to my chest. My racing heart relaxes and I take his hand.

After Adrien pulls me up, a ginger boy covered in freckles approaches us. He brings his asthma puffer to his mouth and inhales deeply before speaking to me.

"Congratulations Marinette. You truly are worthy to be this school's queen."

"Er...thanks?" I say, stepping back a bit.

"My name's Jimmy. I've been waiting for this moment my entire life, my queen. Are you ready to kiss your king...?"

I recoil as Jimmy slowly reaches out to touch me. I squint my eyes as if preparing myself for this unwanted contact, when all of a sudden Adrien's hand shoots out in front of me and grabs Jimmy's wrist. I look up at him in surprise, my heart pounding.

[Adrien's POV]

My hand seemed to move on its own. But I don't restrict myself. I squeeze Jimmy's wrist tighter and glare at him intimidatingly.

"Don't touch her." I warn him before releasing my grip on his wrist.

Jimmy scowls at me as he rubs his wrist.

"Man, this grand prize idea really unveils a whole lotta creeps." I say. "Why don't you go on ahead, Marinette?"

Marinette looks at me unsurely. I smile to assure her that everything is okay.

The speakers erupt with Alya's voice. "All contestants of the obstacle course must make their way to the starting line."

Marinette slowly takes a step back. She gives one last uneasy look at Jimmy before turning to leave. He takes another puff from his inhaler as he watches Marinette run away.

I look at Jimmy tensely. "Listen buddy. Marinette has no idea who you are, you need to respect her personal boundaries. You're making her uncomfortable."

"But she—she's so beautiful!" Jimmy says. "I just wanted the chance to kiss her, and now that I've won three events I can—"

"You've won three events? How?" I question, looking the chubby asthmatic up and down.

Jimmy sniggers. "Bribery of course. For the right price you can buy anything, even a kiss."

"That's creepy dude." I say in disgust.

"It doesn't matter! You're just jealous because I'll be the one kissing Marinette by the end of the day." Jimmy replies. "How many wins do you have, prissy boy?"

Fine. If this guy won't listen to reason then I'll just make him back away.

I cross my arms and sneer down at him. "That's where you're wrong. I've already got three wins and I'm about to go win the obstacle course too. If you really want to prove that you deserve Marinette more than I do, then how about you compete against me fair and square instead of just buying your way out of everything?"

Jimmy's fist tightens around his asthma puffer. He grinds his teeth in anger, clearly debating with himself whether to fall for my challenge when he obviously can't win.

"See you at the starting line." I smile smugly before turning on my heel and walking away.

"That was intense." Says a dull voice. "Didn't expect you to be the jealous type, mister teen model of perfection."

I jump in surprise and look down to see Alex slinking along beside me with her hands in her pockets.

"How long have you been there?" I ask.

Alex shrugs in response.

"Right..." I say. "I'm not some flawless model, by the way. And what do you mean, the jealous type? I'm not that either."

"Well, this is an awful lot of effort to go through for Marinette don't you think?" Alex responds.

"I don't actually want to kiss her. I was just trying to intimidate that weirdo back there." I reply. "Ms Bustier said that the winner doesn't have to accept their prize, remember? I'm just trying to protect Marinette from having to kiss a random creep. Isn't that the same as what you're doing?"

Alex rolls her eyes and mutters, "Oblivious idiot..."

This conversation is confusing me. Alex is a pretty hard person to read I guess.

Our leisurely chat is soon interrupted by an outbreak of screams. We whip around to see a figure in a black overcoat wearing the beaked mask of a plague doctor. Alex immediately sprints outta here, but I'm examining the intruder for any sign of an akuma. I see tufts of red hair escaping the outskirts of his plague mask and when he pulls out an asthma puffer, I know it is him.

Jimmy.

"You will all wield to death's kiss!" Jimmy declares.

He presses down on his inhaler and a thick smog protrudes from it, intoxicating the air.

"Everybody get out of her! Don't breathe in his gas!" Shouts a voice. "Hey, you! What are you doing?!"

I feel a hand grab my wrist and haul me away from the villain.

"Don't just stand there, come on!"

I tear my eyes from Jimmy to see Ladybug running in front of me, pulling me along by the hand. We skid to a stop by the bathrooms where a couple of teenagers is making out against the wall.

"Ew! Ew, ew, ew, no! No!" Ladybug cries, pointing at them in dismay.

I look again to see that it is none other than Kim and Alex locking lips. I take a moment to consider the situation. I had never pictured them together but I guess they have some chemistry. They share a lot of interests and are always bickering, but in a friendly way. You know they enjoy each other's company. Maybe a little too much...I mean we've been standing here for a while and they're acting as though no one is there.

"That is so wrong!" Ladybug says. "They are so wrong!"

"You sure are clueless when it comes to love, Ladybug. They only act like they hate each other because they secretly like one another." I reply.

"Sounds like the same stupid logic Cat Noir would use." Ladybug criticizes.

I smile nervously. Ladybug doesn't seem to think any further into the topic. She leaves Kim and Alex, walking around to the other side of the small bathroom block to hide from Jimmy behind the wall.

"They wouldn't even think about kissing each other if it weren't for that gas anyway." Ladybug says.

Chloe runs past chasing a terrified Nathaniel with outstretched arms. He looks utterly horrified by the idea of hugging Chloe. I know that Chloe wouldn't be caught dead chasing after Nathaniel, so maybe Ladybug is right about the gas.

"What is it?" I ask. "What does it do?"

"It intensely increases a person's lust. People are throwing themselves on each other everywhere I go, it's disgusting the way that guy would manipulate a person's emotions." Ladybug tells me.

"I think I know why," I say. "That boy's name is Jimmy. Our school had this stupid event prize—a kiss from a pretty girl—and he went crazy with lust. But he didn't have enough wins to kiss her and I think that ticked him off."

"Creepy..." Ladybug mutters.

"What do you think you're doing? You should be overcome with love!"

Ladybug and I look over to see Jimmy combing the oval, gassing anyone who isn't already intoxicated. He is approaching us quickly.

"Kiss, kiss, fall in love!" He sings to himself. "If you won't take death's kiss—then you'll take death!"

Jimmy is drawing nearer and nearer. Ladybug and I look around in a panic for somewhere to hide.

"He's gonna gas us as soon as he sees us!" I say fearfully. "You can't get gassed before you get that akuma, Ladybug. We need to hide you, or disguise you—"

"I apologise in advance." Ladybug says quickly.

"Wha—"

Ladybug grabs the sides of my head and smashes her lips into mine. She pulls me close to her, trying to block herself from Jimmy's view; wrapping her arms around my neck and readjusting our position without breaking the contact between our lips even once. I slip my arms around her waist as if to cover her up more...but really I just wanted to hold her tighter. I grip her hips and press our bodies together. Her kisses are strong and passionate—just like my lady. I feel myself melt in our hot embrace.

"Good, good. I want everybody to be dripping with lust! Now all that's left is my darling Marinette..." Jimmy cackles, his voice slowly fading as he passes us.

Ladybug tears her lips away from mine. I lean in after her slightly, craving more, but she steps back. My face is burning. I slowly exhale as if releasing steam from my hot and flustered body.

"Sorry for that, please don't think much of it. Duty calls." Ladybug pats me on the shoulder before running into battle.

I feel as though my soul has left my body. My legs wobble like jello. I watch Ladybug sprint out of sight and then instantly collapse onto the ground. My mouth twists into a dazed smile. I reach up slowly and touch my lips. Her lips were so warm and soft...I want to feel them pressed against mine again.

"Uh, earth to Adrien?" Plagg says, his pestering voice disrupting my heavenly state.

"I kissed Ladybug." I sigh dreamily. "That was amazing."

"Snap out of it, lover boy! There is an akuma on the loose!" Plagg yaps.

"Ladybug kissed me!" I continue. "This is the best moment of my life."

"She only did it to hide from that Jimmy loser. She told you not to worry about it, she told you duty called—she didn't even mean it! It's just the same as when she had to kiss you during the battle against Dark Cupid, you gotta do what you gotta do." Plagg says, yanking on the back of my collar. "Ladybug doesn't want Adrien, she wants Cat Noir. She needs Cat Noir! Saviour of Paris, Ladybug's trusted partner, ring any bells to you?"

"Okay, okay. I'm coming." I reply, lifting myself up steadily. "But I'm gonna prove you wrong Plagg. Ladybug will know who I am one day; she will kiss me and she will mean it. Senpai will notice me! But for now... Claws out!"

Plagg rolls his eyes in disgust before disappearing into my ring. My body shines with a bright, green light as I transform into Cat Noir.

I run out into battle to see Ladybug having a faceoff with Jimmy.

"This is not the way to go about things, Jimmy!" She says. "If you want a girl to kiss you, you have to charm her. Get to know her a little, maybe take her out on a date—"

"Well in that case, care to go on a date m'lady?" I ask smoothly, taking Ladybug's hand gently and kissing it.

Ladybug frowns and pulls her hand away. "Sorry, but I'm not charmed."

I feel my face turning red the moment we make eye contact. My mind is racing, I can't stop thinking about our crashing lips.

We kissed each other. Less than a minute ago. I kissed her. She kissed me. She clutched my face and kissed it. Repeatedly. I touched her, I grabbed her hips and kissed her lips. Just a moment ago. We made out. Intensely.

I feel so hot under this god damn suit. My face is boiling. And Ladybug has no idea! Will I ever be able to look her in the eye again, let alone flirt with her?

I must have been staring blanking into space for a while because Ladybug had already engaged Jimmy in combat. She kicks him to the ground easily but is too quick to celebrate.

"Ladybug, don't get too close!" I stress.

Jimmy presses down on his inhaler, engulfing Ladybug in a cloud of gas. I motion forward but I know I can't go in there. I can't breathe in that gas, especially if Ladybug is already gone.

"Here kitty, kitty." Beckons a seductive voice.

Ladybug steps out of the smog and approaches me with a confident stride, her eyes gleaming with hunger. My heart pounds against my ribcage. My body temperature rising with every step she takes towards me.

Ladybug leans in close and traces my chest with her finger as she talks. "Whaddya say we get out of here and find a place to cosy up together." Ladybug walks her fingers up my chest and bops my nose.

I gulp down hard. Damn it, I want to kiss her again so badly.

Ladybug's voice rings in my head, "They wouldn't even think about kissing each other if it weren't for that gas."

That's right. This isn't real. Ladybug has been intoxicated by that weird smoke, she isn't aware of what she is doing. What kind of person would I be to take advantage of her in this situation?

"Ladybug, you aren't yourself—" I try.

"Shhh..." Ladybug strokes my lips with her finger as she hushes me. "No more talking, I just want to kiss you Cat Noir."

I've yearned for this moment—dreamt of the day that Ladybug would crave my lips—but I don't think I've actually prepared myself for this intensity. My cheeks are burning beneath my mask. My heart is racing.

Ladybug whispers seductively into my ear, her lips so close that I can feel her breath on my neck. "I want to feel your lips pressed against my own." She breathes before rolling her tongue to make a purring sound.

Oh lord. Oh god. Please, heavenly father, save me from temptation!

I recoil fearfully as Ladybug begins to bring her lips closer to mine. I—I'm not ready for this. It's too much! I know I said I wanted her to kiss me like she means it, but not now. Not like this.

"I'm sorry, my lady." I say painfully before weaving my head to dodge her kiss.

I snatch Ladybug's yoyo and sprint away from her. If Ladybug is out of the game then I'll just have to go fight Jimmy on my own.

I find him throwing aside tents and destroying bleachers in search for Marinette.

"Oh Marinette!" Jimmy calls out. "Where are you, my queen?"

I can easily win in a fight against him, only problem is that I can't get close enough without being gassed.

"Ah, okay. How do I use this thing?" I mutter to myself as I hopelessly jab Ladybug's yoyo with my finger. "She always throws it into the air when she conjures her lucky charm, right?" I look at the yoyo unsurely before extending it into the air above me. "Luckyyy, charm? Please?"

I watch the yoyo saw high into the sky but the glaring light of the sun blinds me. I instinctively squint my eyes and look away just as the yoyo falls down again. It plummets down on top of my head causing a painful knock against my skull.

"Ouch! God damn..."

I snatch up the fallen yoyo angrily and rub my head as I look around for any sign of my lucky charm. Maybe it only works when Ladybug does it...

Just then, something else—something much larger and heavier—comes falling out of the sky and smacks me on the head as well. I stumble forward and grip my head in pain.

"OW! Seriously, 'lucky' my ass. Stupid magical yoyo and it's stupid magical items..."

I look down to see a red gas mask lying on the grass.

"Ha, just try to poison me with your gas now!" I yell triumphantly, causing Jimmy to turn his attention to me. I strap on the gas mask and strike an attack pose. "Come at me, Jimmy."

The masked villain stares at me silently for a moment before turning away quickly and retreating.

"You can't escape me, I've got a magical freaking yoyo to go with my magical-ass staff!" I shout as I chase after him.

Jimmy desperately sprays gas everywhere. Although it can't infect me, it does cloud my vision.

"Where are you Jimmy? Come out and face me like a man." I say as I wave my hands around blindly.

"You cannot keep me from my queen." Jimmy replies. His voice travels around me as he speaks, I can't tell which direction it is coming from. "Marinette! Marinette, my darling! Come kiss your king!"

"Say, if a king farts is it a noble gas?" I joke.

A hear a snort and a chuckle from right beside me. I quickly spin round and swing a blind punch. But it lands. Actually, it smacked him real good. I hear a thud on the ground and then Jimmy groaning in agony below me.

"I appreciate your sense of humour and I'm sorry I had to punch you after you laughed at my joke." I say as I fumble around. "You're still kind of a creep though, so I'm gonna have to take that asthma puffer of yours."

The gas is starting to thin out. I can see myself patting down Jimmy's silhouette. I pry open his hand and steal the inhaler from his grasp before retreating from the cloud of smog. I throw the asthma puffer down on the ground and smash it beneath my foot. I am instantly met with a wave of panic.

I don't know how to purify an akuma!

I frantically smack Ladybug's yoyo as the akuma flutters out from the broken inhaler. "Open. Open! OPEN! How the heck do you open this thing?!"

The yoyo finally opens up but the akuma is getting away.

"Come back!" I plead as I chase after it.

I sling Ladybug's yoyo at it only to miss completely.

"Shit. Okay, okay, I got this. This time!"

I desperately throw the yoyo again and again without success.

"For god's sake, get in my yoyo!" I yell in frustration.

The akuma is only flying higher. I give one more mighty throw of the yoyo and to my great excitement, I finally catch it.

"YES!" I exclaim. I immediately start breaking out the dance moves in celebration. "I gotchya cuz I'm the best. Take that Hawk Moth, your akumas ain't got nothing on me. Ladybug who? The mighty Cat Noir is the hero of this city. Booya!"

Speaking of Ladybug, I need to fix her. I pull off my gas mask and throw it up into the air.

"Miraculous Cat Noir!" I shout out.

Oh man that was so fun to say! The gas mask explodes in a burst of red magic, which zooms around the sports carnival fixing everyone and everything. This is so awesome!

"Pound it!" I say before fist bumping myself with my two hands.

Okay, that didn't feel as cool. I hope no one was watching...
