Chapter 10: Don't Play With Fire
Monday morning I pulled into the school's parking lot. I had a problem pulling in because for some reason there seemed to be thousands of cars lined up. At first I didn't think anything of it, until I parked and realized some of the cars looked familiar. Getting out of my car, I walked in the direction of the cars, then my memory hit me like a brick wall. It was Chris, the fuck is he doing up here? I knew Dominic couldn't fucking hold his tongue. As I continued to walk in the direction of the cars, Dominic ran up to me.
"I'm sorry Mackenzie, I know I shouldn't have said anything but it was hard."
"Dominic I forgave you about that one time you cheated on Deja and I didn't say anything, I forgave you when you stopped talking to me because of Chris, but I'm done with that shit. Don't fucking talk to me anymore."
"Mackenzie don't be like that."
"Don't be like what? Don't not forgive your ass when you're wrong? I'm good on you." I walked away from him. I've only in our entire friendship asked his ass to do ONE thing and that one thing was to not tell Chris about the Vonté situation. Of course, I was wrong again for actually believing him.
I walked over to the group of cars. Waving at some dudes I knew, before I found Chris standing next to his car talking to some friends.
"What are you doing here?" I asked him, his friends stood watching us.
"You know why I'm here. Don't even ask me a dumb ass question like that." Is he really trying to front right now?
"Oh! So you trying to front? What the fuck are you here for Chris?!"
"GURL don't raise your voice at me!" He must have forgot who ran this damn relationship.
"Motherfucka I can raise my voice at anyone I want to! So don't bring your ass up here thinking you bout to do something!" Chris grabbed my arm to take me away from his friends. I hit him in the face with an open hand.
"Chris don't fucking grab me!"
"Don't hit me!"
"I wouldn't have hit your dumb ass if you didn't grab me!"
"I shouldn't have grabbed you but don't yell at me like that in front of my friends."
"I don't give a care if you were in front of the Pope! Don't try to hoe me!"
"I wasn't trying to hoe you, look you know why I'm up here so don't act new." Chris tried to walk away from me but I turned him around.
"You're not involved in this Chris, just leave it alone."
"I can't leave it alone. As much as you don't want to admit it, you're my girl and you'll always be my girl."
"No, I won't Chris. You have to realize it's over, we'll NEVER get back together. Just please stop! Don't do anything!" I tried pleading with him but it wasn't working.
"No matter who you go with or years from now...even married, you're my girl. You'll always be my girl, and no motherfuckin nigga will treat you anyway that I don't agree with."
"Ok Chris, I understand where you're coming from but can you just leave? Just leave and I'll call and talk to you. Just please don't cause anymore problems."
I tried my best to try and get Chris to leave but he wouldn't. He wouldn't leave for anything. Why couldn't Dominic shut the fuck up?! Soon people started to notice the large crowd of people and came up with their own stories for why the boys were there. Word got around very quickly that they were there for Vonté.
I prayed Vonté wouldn't show up today, that for some reason he decided to not come to school today. Yet, knowing myself, my luck wasn't that good. Vonté walked to the middle of the street, with his own crew of people. I didn't know who they were, but some boys I did recognize, some from the school. I guess they thought it was a school versus school fight but it wasn't that simple. I tried grabbing hold of Chris's arm but couldn't, he already was walking toward Vonté. Soon Chris and his crew stood face to face with Vonté and his crew.
"What the fuck you doin up here? Who the fuck are you?" Vonté yelled.
"Nigga I'm the one askin you questions. I heard you was fuckin over mi girl?" Chris turned his response into a question, he rubbed his hands together while talking.
"You talkin bout that hoe Mackenzie? Nigga she fucked the whole team." I couldn't believe Vonté said that, then again, I wasn't very surprised by anything he did now. I wanted to scream at him, but I decided to be the bigger person because I knew if I popped off, Chris would too.
"Ooohhh so she a hoe?" Chris had a smirk on his face, and I knew it wasn't because he thought it was funny.
"Yes, that bitch is a hoe. She fucked my friends and I in the movie theater. She loved that shit." Vonté spoke with amusement in his voice looking at me when he said the last part. I felt dirty, nasty for even liking him, for showing him any attention at all. My body felt disgusting for letting him touch me.
"Look man, stop calling her out of her name. I ain't feelin that name callin shit." By now Chris was turning red.
"I can call her loose pussy ass what the fuck I want." After that comment I couldn't control myself, I went to walk in his direction but Dominic grabbed me by my waist.
"You don't wanna do that Kenzie." He whispered in my ear.
"Ha..nigga I'mma tell your ass one more time! Don't call her out her name. She ain't even a hoe."
"Who the fuck this nigga think he is?" Vonté asked pointing at Chris.
"I'mma call her what I want...thot, thotty, hoe, loose pussy ass bitch. You ain't going to stop me from sayin shit."
Before Vonté could say another word Chris leaped on top of him, his fist connecting to Vonté's jaw. One of Vonté's guys punched Chris in the face, soon there was a mob of people fighting. Everyone that wasn't involved was watching, mostly catching the fight on video. By now I was standing by myself. Once Chris hit Vonté, Dominic left my side quickly. For a moment it seemed as if time had stopped, everything looked as if it were going in slow motion. I turned my head for a second and when I looked back Derrick had a gun, pointing it at a boy on the basketball team. Everyone seemed to stop from realization at the same time. Derrick's face showed no emotion at all, he just pointed the gun straight at the boy's head.
"Chill Derrick!" I heard someone yell, the mob of people focused their attention to the gun. Derrick didn't move, he then clocked the gun.
"Come on man! Chill for a second, it ain't even that serious." This time the voice came from Ryan. How does Ryan know Derrick?
"Stay out of this Ryan." Derrick spoke.
"You got me in this man, you pulling out a gun. Just stop bro, just put the gun down."
"Why should I? He disrespected us...me and the crew. We kill fuckas like him just fa fun."
"Come on man, everyone's watching. You don't want all these people see you do this shit, just chill." While Ryan tried to talk him down, sirens and police cars came zooming down the street.
Everyone ran, people who were just watching ran too. Chris and his crew jumped in their cars and drove away, for some reason I couldn't move, I froze in place. Yet, when someone bumped into me trying to get away, I ran with them. I ran as fast as I could into the school, reaching the girls restroom. My heart was going super fast, I locked myself into a nearby stall. I thought about all of the trouble I would be in, everyone knows they were talking about me, I'm the only Mackenzie. I stayed in the bathroom as long as I could, until hours later hearing my name being called over the PA system. I couldn't exactly walk out of the building. I thought it was over, I couldn't just get away with this like I did the last time.
I walked out of the bathroom and went straight to the principal's office, I knocked a few times before the door opened. Mr.Wallis gave me a stern look before letting me in, sitting down was Ryan, Vonté, and some other boys. Mr.Wallis had me sit next to one of the boys.
"What took you so long to get down here?"
"You know, heavy work load for us seniors." I tried sounding as innocent as possible.
"Your teachers haven't reported you in any classes."
"That's because I was working on a project, sometimes I just have a hard time stopping." I said with a smile on my face.
"Ms.Wright, I called you in here because I wanted to ask you some questions."
"Mr.Wallis I'll answer them as positively as possible." Vonté smacked his lips as I spoke.
"Did you start this fight?" He asked me in a serious tone.
"No, I did not."
"That's a lie! You did start it!" Vonté yelled from his seat.
"Is this truth Ms.Wright? Are you lying?"
"Yes that is the truth, I was an on looker like everyone else."
"Do you know the boys that came up here?" I couldn't snitch on them, I knew if I did, life wouldn't exactly be the smoothest.
"No, I've never seen those boys before."
"That's a lie too!"
"Be quiet Vonté!" Mr.Wallis yelled.
"Ms.Wright as much as I want to believe you, I have you on video talking to one of those boys." Fuck! What do I say now?
"Oh." I said while sliding some hair behind my ear.
"Do you have anything to say for yourself? For lying to me about knowing those boys. I didn't know what to say, so I said the first thing that came to mind.
"I plead the 5th, Sir."
"Haha....I'm sure you'll love to plead this suspension. You've been served, I called your parents but no one answered. You need to leave as soon as possible." I couldn't believe what was happening, I tried to fix the problem and still got in trouble.
