Sisterly Love
"You look like a clown."
The 10 year old girl gasped hearing this. Her head whipped to glare to her seven years older sister, holding up her phone. "You look like one without the make up!"
The older sister glared, tad annoyed, stopping the video on her phone, but then her annoyance turned to anger. She hurried into the bathroom, snatched her sister's wrist before prying the eyeliner out the yelling girl's hand.
"Is that MY eyeliner?!" Her hand put down the eyeliner to grasp the squirming child's face still. Inspecting the messily applied eye shadow, which went all way to the eyebrows, she gasped, "AND my eyeshadow?! Do you even know how expensive this all is?!"
"Don't be stingy!" The younger sister pulled her wrist free, "Sharing is caring-"
"I don't care! Take it off, you look stupid," the older sister snatched a pack of make up removing wipes, holding it to her younger sister.
But her sister crossed her arms, "Then do it for me!"
"Why would I?"
"Because-" The youngster began sharp and loud but eyes went down, cheeks red, though not from the applied blush, "Because there's... someone i like in class."
The eldest' eyebrow quirked up, "And you think wearing make up will make them magically like you?"
"They said they like pretty girls..."
The older sister sighed, able to resist an eyeroll. She pulled out some wipes then put it against her sister's face, holding it there.
"No! I want-" her sister began, hands reaching up, so the eldest was quick to interrupt,
"Just calm down. I'll do it for you."
Her younger sister's hands slowly, as if not believing, went down.
"There," The older sister glanced into the mirror, to inspect her own handiwork while her sister does as well. But it is silent. "Don't like it?"
Slowly the sister shook her head, "No, it's nice. Just... I don't know."
The eldest eyed her sis then put away the items into their proper places, giving her sister time to think it through. Once it was all put away she went behind her sister, wrapping her arms around her shoulders then her chin onto her head.
"I think you look beautiful."
This made the youngster huff, trying to muster up some humor; "Not like a clown?"
"A beautiful clown."
"Hey!"
The two laughed, especially when the younger elbowed the eldest. Then silence again before the youngest admitted;
"It doesn't feel me. I don't think I want to do this..."
"Then you don't. You are too young anyway. Should begin using this stuff later, at fifteen or whatever, for special occasions. This stuff doesn't define your beauty, okay?" The sister didn't nod so the eldest asked again, "Okay?"
"Yeah, okay."
"It's just a booster, an accessory. If they can't see how pretty you are, especially without it, then you throw them out of your life."
"They are in my class-"
"Then elbow them when they stand with you in line. Seems you are good at that."
"Stoop."
"Nah, don't think I will. Oh, by the way, that video is gonna be shared with everyone."
"What?! No!"
The eldest ran off, so the youngest chased, yelling after her but got a door slammed in her face and locked so she hit it, yelling her sister's name and "this isn't funny!" but on the other side only laughter came.
The video did not get shared. It got screenshotted and put as background on the older sister's phone, to be smiled at each time she opens her phone and be proud of the girl her younger sister is growing up to be.
