Story:

Also born in Fujiyoshida, Japan, Ayane Mutoh had aspirations to become a pro wrestler and would always participate in sports like softball and soccer, but one day, a hard blow to her head during a softball match ending her career.

However, Ayane wasn't deterred because she still wanted to be involved with the world of professional wrestling. Haruto, her brother, called for the idea of being his manager, that way she didn't feel any sadness towards the fact she couldn't wrestle because of her career-ending injury.

Wherever she went, Ayane played the role of a manager, as a Yurei, or a restless Japanese ghost, yearning for revenge against their enemies for their wrongdoings.

In fact, many people viewed Ayane's role as Haruto's manager have viewed it as an abomination and not something that should be praised, but it worked because it fit Haruto's gimmick very well, since it's revolving around Japanese mythology.

Ayane said in an interview that she enjoyed working with her older brother as a manager in a mythological gimmick, saying,

"I think this whole presentation of my brother and his idea of Japanese mythology works so well, mostly because you have a Yurei who wants to make her wrongdoers pay, and then you have a demon, an oni, wanting to cause harm on unsuspecting people. So the two characters working as a duo actually go very well because of how relatable they are. Truth is, I didn't get into mythology until Haruto wanted me to travel with him all over Japan and become this character. I got so into it that I wanted to keep in character whether I'm in interviews or for promos."

Ayane as a Yurei under the name Moriko would prove to be a success, helping her brother win championship after championship throughout Japan, including a run with the American wrestling promotion Ring of Honor, as the ROH World Championship, at a record setting for 390 days before dropping it to Jay Lethal.

After wrapping up their time in New Japan, Haruto and Ayane would make their NXT debut, ambushing Johnny Gargano and his wife Candice, making a statement, letting people know that it's their time now in NXT, as their careers are looking very bright in the Black and Gold brand.
