1. Godmothers and Invitations
Layla and Jasmine above ^^^
Song- Let me Love You by Justin Bieber
Layla's POV
The bustling ambience of McDonald's greeted me as I pushed open the door, a cacophony of chatter and laughter filling the air.
"Took you long enough, Laylz. Planning a heist or something?" Jasmine, my best friend asked me, casually leaning back on her seat.
"My life is officially a mess," I replied, looking down at my hands. My Shinrai tattoo peeked from under my sleeve and seemed to mock me with its message of trust. Trust was something I'd lost long ago.
My friends, interpreting my dramatic declaration as usual, took it to a whole new level.
"Why, are you pregnant?" Hunter asked with a smirk.
"Absolutely not!" I shot back, a hand instinctively going to my chest, genuinely surprised by his suggestion.
"Shut up bro." Eric, Hunter's twin smacked his brother's head.
Hunter erupted into laughter and cackled like a hyena. "What? Her rea...action. It's hil...lari...ous," he wheezed out between laughs.
I was about to lunge at him, but Anna held me back. "Give me three good reasons why I shouldn't kill him right now," I muttered through gritted teeth.
"Because prison orange is so not your colour," she quipped, a smirk playing on her lips.
Regaining my composure, I flicked my long, brown locks over my shoulder, fixing Hunter with a glare that could freeze lava. Jasmine's curious stare met mine, her eyes practically bulging out of their sockets.
Great friends, I have.
"Well, ya see-umm...-I-umm...I-"
"Just stop stuttering and tell us already." Anna screamed in her 'Don't-Mess-With-Me mode'. She is the only sane one here.
"IaccidentallyscratchedJustin'scarintheparkinglot."
"What?" They asked in unison.
" I accidentally scratched Justin's car in the parking lot," I said, clearing my throat to sound more audible.
Why are they looking at me like I'm the last pizza in the box?
The table fell silent. "You mean THE Justin Woods?" Anna gasped, her voice an octave higher.
"Yeah, his Audi A5," I replied, staring at my strawberry milkshake.
Yum.
"How are you still breathing? That jerk would have buried you alive. I think he loves that car more than his life," Eric grumbled, sinking deeper into his chair.
"Well I don't know about that but he just yelled to get out of his sight" I said, taking a sip of my milkshake.
Jasmine's sudden squeal nearly sent my milkshake flying. "Did you guys kiss or what?"
I choked on my drink. "He yelled at me, Jaz. Not exactly a meet-cute."
Jasmine's logic was, as always, uniquely her own. But we didn't become friends in the usual way.
It wasn't kindergarten; it was middle school. We bonded over a mutual hatred for Sophia Black, the queen bee.
Not every friendship begins at kindergarten, kids.
"I don't care about that. Just remember, make me the godmother of your child," she said, wagging her finger at me.
Loving, bubbly and caring. She is the sister whom I always wished for. But unfortunately, she came with no filter button.
Eric's groan was almost lost in the din. "I can't believe we're related."
"And name your child July," she continued, clapping her hands with glee.
"Wait, Layla, what was he doing in the parking lot?" Hunter asked while I just stared at something behind him.
More precisely someone.
"Umm.. why do you guys look like you've seen a ghost?" He stated still clueless.
"That's because we have," Eric muttered under his breath, looking in the other direction.
The sound of a chair being dragged across the floor announced Justin Woods's arrival at our table.
"Hey," he greeted with his signature charming smile. "Your outfit looks great," he said, the flirty undertone unmistakable.
Why do I have this feeling that he wants something from me?
My heart did a traitorous little skip. "Uh, thanks?"The guy who yelled at me minutes ago was now complimenting me. Suspicious much?
Do note the dripping sarcasm.
His chuckle sent a shiver down my spine.
"I'm hosting a party on Saturday at my place. You're all invited, I'll text you the address. " With that, he sauntered off, leaving a trail of whispers in his wake.
No one can deny Justin's attractiveness. But he's a jerk. An arrogant one.
Mum has always told me to live with my dignity. People like Justin are all show, masking their true selves for the sake of reputation.
Jasmine was practically vibrating with excitement. "He's totally into you!"
Eric's scowl deepened. "He's up to something."
But Jasmine was already plotting. "We're going to that party, and we're going to slay."
Sigh.
Uh-oh, this tone meant trouble.
"Shopping spree?" Hunter read my mind.
"Yes!" She exclaimed, clapping her hands.
I sighed, resigned to my fate. "Alright, whatever."
As we left McDonald's, I couldn't shake the feeling that Justin Woods—Rosewood High's golden boy—was more than just a pretty face and a fast car. And maybe, just maybe, I was curious enough to find out.
