Thirty-nine
I reached Noah's room and saw it was empty, then I heard voices from the bathroom. I looked at the door sadly.
Poor Noah must be having his first hangover experience.
I went towards his bathroom and knocked on the door. "Go away, mom." He groaned from inside.
"It's me, Noah," I replied, putting my hand on the door.
There was pin-drop silence for a minute, then Noah's disbelief voice came. "Lexi?"
"Yup." I chuckled. "The one and only."
I heard the water running inside and waited for him to come out. After a minute or two Noah opened the door slowly, looking at me with wide eyes. "It's really you or am I hallucinating again?"
Again? What's that supposed to mean?
"Check it yourself." I extended my hand in front. He darted his hand between me and my hand, then finally touched it.
"Okay, you're real." He muttered getting out of the bathroom and went to his bed. He plopped on it and groaned. "My head hurts so much."
"When you drink like that, it's bound to happen." He glared at me and I put my hands up in surrender. "Take this," I gave him the aspirin, "it'll make you feel better."
He took the bottle from me and gulped the medicine down. I watched him quietly from my place.
Should I ask him about last night?
"What are you doing here?" Noah looked at me curiously.
"We have to practice." I gave him a look, reminding him.
"I thought we were going to do that at your place."
"Yeah...about that. You were drunk, so I thought it'll be a good idea to do it here." I replied, giving him a tight smile.
"What happened last night, anyway?" He asked, running his fingers through his hair. "How did I even got home?"
"You don't remember what happened last night?" My smile faded as I blinked.
"No." I could literally hear my heart shattering into pieces.
He doesn't remember.
"What do you remember exactly?" I asked, observing him.
He looked at me, then pondered. "I remember playing beer pong with Jax..." He muttered.
"And...?"
"Nothing." He groaned in frustration laying on his back. "It's like everything is blank."
"We kissed," I grunted slowly, but he still heard it.
"What?!" He jerked up from his bed, looking at me with wide eyes. "What did you say?"
"I said..." I licked my lips and averted my gaze from him. "You and Kevin kissed." I lied to check if he was lying about remembering or not.
Noah stared at me with wide eyes, and his jaw dropped. "I kissed Kevin?" He whispered in disbelief. I blew out a breath.
He remembers nothing. Why did I ever doubt him? He's Noah, he doesn't lie to me or anyone.
"I am just joking." I forced a laugh, looking at him. "You were about to but stopped."
"Ok..." He trailed off. He put his elbows on his knees and ran fingers through his hair, gripping them tightly. "I feel nauseous." He grumbled.
"Well." I shrugged. "You were drunk AF."
"When was the last time you got drunk?" He asked, glancing at me.
"Hm..." I acted to think about it and leaned my shoulder to the wall beside me. "Never."
"What?" He looked at me in disbelief.
I gave him a half shrug. "I like to stay in control of my emotions." Boring my eyes into his, I replied. "And to not do stupid things then regret them in the morning."
"What's that supposed to mean?" He questioned, letting go of his hair.
I cleared my throat, standing straight. "I'm saying this from Kevin's experience. He does-" I waved my hands, "-stuff when he gets drunk and then regrets them."
"Oh... I did nothing stupid, right?" Noah blinked his gorgeous eyes at me.
"Nup." I shifted under his gaze. "I-I think I should go downstairs," I said walking backward.
"I'll come with you." He said getting up, but I stopped him.
"You should fresh up and then come down when you feel better." I turned around but halted in my steps. "Oh, and I brought you home last night, but don't tell your parents that."
He looked at me in confusion. "Why?"
"Because... I want to create a good impression." With that, I whirled on my heels and dashed downstairs.
He doesn't remember what happened last night.
My shoulders slumped as I lumber down. Not like anything happened, but still...
"Is he okay?" I looked up and saw Mr. and Mrs. Stone curiously gaze at me.
"Yeah." I plastered a smile on my face. "He's having a headache, so I told him to come down when he feels better," I replied going towards them.
"Good. Now come here and look what I got." She gestured for me to sit beside her and I saw an album in her lap. "These are pictures of when you all were kids." She gave me a sad smile.
I looked at the pictures and remembered my childhood memories of my friends and family. We talked about funny memories and how Jax, Noah, and I wanted to make our band. When Kevin, Vanessa, and Ivy joined our group and we all build the treehouse with Mr. Stone.
It felt good and somehow sad talking about my friends.
"See this." Mrs. Stone showed me the picture of me and mommy. "You look just like her." She murmured, looking at me with her sparkling eyes.
I gulped and took the picture out of her hands. "She's more beautiful," I whispered, observing our smiling faces. Except for eyes, mom and I did look alike.
"How are your parents?" Mr. Stone asked, making me stiffened. "We never met again after you guys came back from New York."
"T-they are good." I simply replied and closed the album before I started crying. "Busy with work."
"Oh." Mr. and Mrs. Stone glanced at each other then looked at me, smiling. "Why don't you all come and dine with us an-"
"What's going on?" Noah's voice came from behind to my rescue.
"Nothing!" I jumped from my seat, changing the topic. "Why don't you have breakfast first, you must be hungry now, right? I'll make something for you." I ranted, and without waiting for their responses, I went straight to the kitchen.
I could feel their gazes on me, but I continued marching. Thank god Noah saved me. If it wasn't for him, his parents were about to invite my family and what family?
My dad's busy with his work and mom...
"You okay?" I turned around and saw Noah standing at the door.
"I'm perfectly fine." I gave him my best smile and took eggs from the fridge, making him breakfast.
After a few minutes, Mrs. Stone came to the kitchen and helped me cook for Noah while he sat on the stool observing us with a radiant smile on his face.
We talked about high school and different things; I tried my best to avoid my parents.
After almost an hour of chatting, Mrs. Stone said that she had to take Mr. Stone for his physical therapy and they'll be back after few hours.
"You never told me about your dad," I whispered as I watched Mrs. Stone helping Mr. Stone getting in the taxi.
"It happened around a year ago." He bored his eyes on mine. "And we weren't exactly on talking terms." I ducked my head, feeling guilty.
He's right.
"What happened?"
"One day he was coming back from his office and had an accident."
"Is he...?"
"The doctor said he may have some chance to get back on his feet, but it's not guaranteed." I gulped, watching his parents leave.
A lot has changed in the past year, and it was not just me. Everyone has gone through difficult shit.
"So...?" I said, rocking back and forth on my heels. "Shall we start?"
"Yeah." Noah nodded.
I glanced at my car. "I brought the ingredients we need, and it's in my car. I'll g-"
"I'll get them." Noah offered, I smiled and gave him the keys.
I watched from the living room as he went to my car, then heard a phone ringing.
I looked around and saw it was Noah's. I glanced back at the car to see Noah, he was busy taking the things out. I went towards the phone and picked it.
My brows knitted in confusion when I saw Ivy's name on it.
Why the hell is this bit*h calling him?
I heard my car door slammed and hurriedly switched off Noah's phone and put it on the side table.
"I got them," Noah announced as he entered. I gave him a tight smile and strode towards the kitchen, getting Ivy out of my head.
"Let's get this party started."
