~12|"Lights Out"

Garrettes P.O.V

I made sure that this would never happen again.

Loren is rinsing off all of the pressure that she had on her shoulders today. After what happened to her you couldn't imagine what's going through my head of what I'll do to those guys.

It's been a whole day and she didn't tell me what happened. That bruise wasn't even a bruise.

Me being a football player I'd know the difference between a broken bone and a bruise. That was no bruise.

I left her apartment to go to mines and see if Loren and the guys heard anything about this.

My chest vibrated my shirt as I slammed my door behind me. Sweat was dripping down the slide of my temples. And my hands couldn't stop shaking.

The three of them were watching some movie that was playing on the TV. They better not be watching the movies that I recorded.

"Hey where's Nikki?" Loren said as she moves her hair out of her face.

I just ignored her and went to turn off my TV.

"Did you guys know about what happened to her!?" Pointing down at the floor.

All of their faces were blank. More like shocked.

"And you guys didn't tell me?!"

Trent sat up, sighed, and looked up at me. "We didn't want to tell you because we knew she didn't. I knew that you'd be mad, it was better for her to tell you."

I started to pace around my apartment and I felt like I could punch the living hell out of a brick wall and break through it.

Alright Garrette calm down.

Walking back to my living room I saw their faces. They had the look on their face as if they never saw this side of me.

I haven't acted like this before...

Trent moved over and patted the open seat next to him. I sat down and rested my forehead on my hands.

"I think I know who it is." I said as Trent put his arm around me roughly.
"I think I know exactly who it is." Trent gave me a smirk and pointed at his head.

It was quiet for a few seconds which made me eager to know who did it.

"Well are you gonna tell me or not?!"

Every body that was inside the room was still. Imagine a rainy day with no wind and the trees and the ground was wet. Cars passing by rushing to get home.

Finally someone broke the silence. "It was Justin and Wren." Brandon looked down.

"You mean the two guys that would kiss anything that'd have pompoms?! Those two assholes!"

My blood was pumping and my adrenaline kicked in. The three of them had a concerned facial expression.

But that doesn't matter to me at the moment. I want to teach them a lesson that they'll never forget.

"Don't do anything stupid Garrette. Think of your spot in Football. If you swing they'll take you out in a split second." Loren went through her purse and took out something that I don't know what it was.

"No. I don't care! They know me as a soft hearted guy that is a mommys boy and I'm going to change their minds about me. I do not care Loren. She means everything to me."

I stood up and pointed at Brandon. "Dude what if someone beat Loren. What would you do?!"

He looked up with his eyebrows narrowed. "I'd do the same thing as you."

"My point exactly. So don't try to stop me." I've been in my apartment for six minutes. It's about time I should go check on Loren.

I turned my back on them and made my way to the door.

"You've never acted like this just for a girl." Trent said. I was already half way out the door.

"Even for a girl you haven't asked out yet."

I clenched my jaw and slammed the door behind me.

Yeah. She isn't my girlfriend and yes I didn't ask her out. But just because she isn't my girlfriend it doesn't mean I shouldn't care about her as a friend.

A close friend.

Something closer then a friend.

Something that is in between a friend and being my girlfriend.

I can't imagine if I didn't see her by the bus stop. But maybe if I didn't then she wouldn't be hurt right now.

Loren's P.O.V

Dad: Hey Nik How was Homecoming?

After I was done taking a shower I got into baggy sweats and a tanktop and turned on my TV.

Where did Garrette go? He probably went to go get something from his apartment.

Or not.

But Dad. I completely forgot that he had his date with that one lady! Well if he isn't here with me then I know that the date went good.

Me: It was great! People went all out on dancing. I think there was alchohol in the fruit punch bowl. Lol

Dad: and U didn't drink any?

Me: Dad! No! I'm going to change the subject now. How was the date?

I know that at dances your supposed to have fun but not when your going to be constantly coming back to the fruit punch bowl.

Dad: It went very well I couldn't remember the last time I went on a date but I nailed her

Me: YOU DID!?

Dad: No no no! *I nailed it

At times I wonder how old my dad really is.

Me: Sureeee. Do you guys have something going or what?

I heard the front door open and heavy breathing.

"Garrette?" I grabbed the hammer that was under my bed.

Why am I always prepared for things like this?

"Yeah its me!" His footsteps got louder as he made his way to my bed room. I can tell the difference from a tired walk to a mad momma who noticed that their kid didn't do the chores as they were gone.

Garrette's pace was pretty slow.

Dad: She's really nice we are having brunch on Tuesday so yes everything is going great

Dad: For now

"Hey. Where did you go?" Garrette softly slid onto my bed like a penguin and rested his head on my lap.

I ran my fingers through his hair and he was sweating. Now my finger tips are wet. Gross.

He had his eyes closed and I could feel his heart beating. It was fast like he just went for a run.

I whipped his sweat on his shirt softly.
"Garrette. Are you okay?"

He opened his eyes and we made eye contact. "I'm fine."

"Yeah I know you are but that's not what I asked you." I smiled at him. "Are you okay?"

Garrette smiled at me. His teeth are the whitest teeth I've seen. They are nicely straight too. I guess braces were his best friend in High School.

"Not really. I don't want you to have anything to do with those guys anymore so don't be surprised if you hear my name come from the intercom." He hugged my leg.

"Hey I don't want you to do anything to them. Please leave it in the past for me to get over what happened." I lifted his head up so I could sit up against my head board.

Garrette sat up with me and gave me a serious look.

"Get over the fact that they beat you? No Nikki that's not how it goes. I won't be satisfied until they know what they did wrong. After that moment from when I do something, I'm one hundred percent sure that they won't mess with you anymore."

"Don't do anything stupid."

Please don't do something that he will regret, just because of me. I wouldn't want him to do anything stupid enough for him to be kicked outa school.

But why does he want to do this for me? Who am I to him...? I'm not his girlfriend. Definitely not an acquaintance to him. A friend? He's said it before.

It's about time that I asked.

Silence filled the room and I had the feeling to cry again. No. No. Let's not let that happen.

We watched a full episode of this show that was playing when he came in. It was about four guys making each other do stupid things in public. And then soon enough there was a comercial about metlife.

Okay god! I got the message.

His sea green eyes connected with my boring brown ones. What a coincidence.

He leaned against my head board next to me

"Why do you love me?"

He brushed his hair with his fingers and then but his hands like a book. Opening and closing his hands.

"You see Nikki. I will repeat myself a million times if you want me to." The side of his lip curved up to his cheek.

"Then go ahead. Tell me why you love me." I got into criss-cross apple sauce like kids would do in front of a reader.

He just kept smiling at me and grabbed my hands and put them as if I was holding a book.

"Not many people stay for one another after a disaster happens. And once they try to come back to that certain person, they don't forgive them. To that person is you, and I'm that jerk that almost left the girl that caught my eye when she needed the most help. For example, you standing in front of the school on the first day."

I laughed, feeling my cheek muscles clench together. At first it's okay for a little while for me to smile. But not this hard. He makes me smile until I come to a point that I have to tell myself to stop smiling so hard.

He flipped my hands over and rubbed his thumbs against the back of my hands.

"But when you know that something is wrong with that person. You never want to leave them hanging. Knowing that this is the right person, they can deal with you in any way. No matter what face you put on in the morning. Because turns out that special someone will always change your mood into a happy one."

My hair fell in front of my face as I leaned forward.

"But no matter what happens to those two people. They will always love each other. In her life she may not think that she isn't like the other girls and she has things hard. And yeah she does. But the guy won't judge her for that. He doesn't care because he loves each and every one of her flaws inside and out. He wants to keep her safe."

He put the piece of hair behind my ear and got closer to me.

"Every day I want to wake up knowing that I have you. And that you have me. And also that you have anything you want."

"Anything?" I asked.

"Anything." He shook his head slightly.

"I want to spend everyday with you, every hour, every minute, every second making you happy."

Butterflies were flying inside my stomach like crazy. Actually no. They aren't just flying, the they're ramming into each other.

"Do you honestly feel this way?" I looked him in his beautiful green eyes. His eyes were sea green with a gold or yellow ring on the outside.

Those eyes could get any girls attention from just three blinks. I wonder how his eye doctor says.

"Yes. And here is the big question." He said.

My heart was beating sixty miles an hour and my cheeks were as red as a tomato. I could feel my back getting hot.

"Do you want to be my girlfriend?"

HE JUST ASKED ME OUT! Hurry Nikki. Don't just leave him hanging! Say something!

"Yes." I didn't know what to do next so I hugged him. I basically tackled him, wrapping my arms around his shoulders. My hair was all over the place.

He laugh as he picked me up, wrapping my legs around his waist. He carried me up. Then sat back down.

He grabbed the remote and switched off my TV. "Hold on."

Garrette lifted me up and walked over to my light switch and turned it off. From then point on I didn't know where he was walking. I was giggling.

He layed me down softly onto my bed under the covers and came along with me. On top of me. It quickly became warm under the sheets.

My eyes were open but I couldn't see anything. One of my five senses are gone but the others aren't. The heavy breathing stopped and his soft lips connected with mines.

Lights out.
