Fireworks
This night is one of the best nights I've ever had. The night was calm with the moon and the stars shining above our heads. The trees around us kept on swaying side to side providing us a chilled breeze. It was partially dark even though there was a flash light switched on in a corner.
As Juliet was sitting next to Aliza, she was covered to Aliza and I couldn't get a proper view of her. And I can't peep in front always just to look at her because the others would notice.
She had let her naturally straightened hair down. She looks beautiful this way. Her hair flies over her face whenever the wind blows stronger. This perfect climate makes me feel like cuddling her and spending some time alone with her. But these are all just dreams that I pray would come true.
I placed my arm around Aliza's chair I felt my hands brushing Juliet's shoulder, and to my wonder she never moved away. Either she hadn't realized it was my hand or she's ignoring it on purpose because she likes it. I have no idea. I keep reminding myself to be calm and not to react much.
Suddenly Edgar revealed some fireworks he had bought in the evening before coming to the party. Sometimes he has unique ideas just to make our moment alive. We moved the chairs away to one part of the rooftop arranging them in a row, while Kaym got a box of match sticks.
Too many cooks would spoil the soup. So Fred Omar and Harry went in front to light it while the rest of us moved to a side. The girls are quite scared of fire I see. Here Juliet stood right in front of me and she didn't realize. The way she was freaking out is cute actually.
When they sent one or two up, it went up to the sky and blasted in beautiful patterns. All our heads tilted upwards to watch it and I see Juliet's head slightly resting on my chest and I feel my heartbeat getting faster. My eyes were on her watching her enjoying the view of the fireworks. I prefer watching her than looking at the fireworks. How I wish I could wrap my arms around her.
Edgar had got many of those. Kaym and Edgar tried it too. Aliza wanted to try one, and she did with the help of Omar. Kaym and Edgar tried it too.
"Do you want to try one?" I whispered into Juliet's ears softly making sure I don't scare her out after I placed both my hands on both her shoulders from behind her.
She did not totally turn around to face me, rather tilted her head up, maybe to see who it was, "No, Thank you" she shot a quick smile.
The best thing is, she let my hands be on her shoulders and didn't jerk it out as I expected. Maybe she didn't realize.
"C'mon... Let's give a try I'll help you" I pleaded.
"No, its okay. I'm scared" She whispered the last part probably feeling shy. I didn't want to force her. Maybe if she had accepted me as hers I would've asked her a couple more times and dragged her with me to give a try.
"Haha it's alright" I gave a slight squeeze to her shoulder and went forward to light one of the fireworks.
Just as I sent mine and watched the golden patterns forming in the black sky, Olivia came running, "Salman, can you help me? I wanna try it out".
"Yeah" I helped her and she did it.
Harry, Omar and others called Anna and Juliet to light it because they were the only ones who didn't try, but they refused. They're too scared for it.
Juliet's POV
I kind of embarrassed myself in front of Salman when I told I was scared to light the fireworks. I wasn't as scared as I expressed. It was just that I was too shy to do it with Salman.
I was furious when I saw Olivia running up to Salman asking to help her. I feel my fist ball up when he happily helped her and when the both of them were smiling looking up at the fireworks, I got angrier. I regretted missing the chance lighting it together with him. Maybe fate wants them to be together and not us.
By the time our tummies grumbled in hunger the food was ready. We enjoyed the delicious meal, cleaned the place, served the cooks and sent the remaining downstairs to Omar's parents and sister.
It was almost twelve after everything was done and dusted, yet we didn't want to depart. We eventually sat back chatting. We talked enjoying the breeze till around one in the midnight, until we kept getting messages from our parents. We decided to leave and Aliza offered to drop me home.
Although it was around 1:30 in the midnight, I still kept rolling side to side on the bed trying to fall asleep. Incidents that happened that night kept disturbing me.
One of it is, when we were seated on the chairs as the party started I felt someone's hands brushing on my shoulder and when I turned to see who it was, I learned that it was Salman's hand. He was looking in front at Fred who was talking. He was concentrating in what Fred was saying and I am sure he hadn't realized his hands were brushing my shoulder. Perhaps it was by mistake.
But that simple touch actually tempted me. I was damn jealous of Aliza because she was sitting next to him. I deserve that place, but obviously I am not brave enough to go for it. Even if that place was empty I wouldn't have sat there.
I didn't want him to brush my shoulder rather I want him to put his arm over my shoulders and keep me closer to him. He would never do that, even if he did it to Olivia or even Aliza. He would never do it to me.
But why?
Does he hate me?
I have no idea.
And when they started the fireworks we were all in a corner. Salman had been standing behind me and I didn't notice until he whispered into my ears asking if I wanted to try lighting it. I refused although I wanted to do it. I refused because I was feeling awkward.
And when he touched my shoulders tingles ran down my spine. I tried my best not to react. I was imagining him standing behind me wrapping his arms around my waist. But no, it's just an imagination which would never happen. This moment ended quickly because he went in front to play with the firework.
Love,
Emraiys.
