Chapter #9: The Treat

Ruhaani and her mother reach the hotel, The Savory Palette only to find Vineet waiting for them. He's in a daze to find the mom and daughter wearing matching outfits.

He's eager to meet Ruhaani and as he glances at them, the girl is surely her mom's shadow. Ruhaani greets him, folding and joining her hands. He taps her head caringly while she giggles. He then glances at Ruhana and says something that resonates deeply with her heart.

"Your daughter is your spitting image, Ruhana. She's your younger version, for sure." Vineet says.

"That's so sweet of you, Vineet. She's my driving force, you know." Ruhana replies with the same affection.

"Hehe! Uncle, meri mumma bina baat ke chinta karne lag jaati hai. Isliye main unke saath wahi karti hoon, jo wo mere sath karti thi." Ruhaani chuckles, causing the other two to laugh.

"Aap haso mat! Main jab darti thi ya pareshan hoti thi toh Mumma mujhe try karne ke liye kehti thi. Toh I do the same." She chuckles.

"Very good! I expected the same from you. Isliye toh tumhare liye ek kaam hai mere pas!" Vineet looks at the girl, her eyes twinkle with joy.

"Par mujhe bhook lagi hain! Mumma kehti hain pehle pet puja phir kaam duja!" She says innocently and tries to imitate her mum.

Vineet smiles and leads their way inside the restaurant. Ruhaani holds her mum's hand and the two enter the place. They find themselves in a warm, cosy ambience. The place is well-lit with aromatic fragrances spreading in the environment. Ruhana finds that Vineet has already booked a table for three. She is surprised.

"Tumne seat reserve kyun karvai?" She asks.

"This is a famous place, Ruhana. Yahan pe bahut bheed rehti hain. Aur main aaj ka mauka haath se kaise jaane deta! Aakhir aaj hi toh mujhe Ruhaani se milne ka mauka mila hain." He says while looking at the girl affectionately.

"Maine bola tha Mumma se, ki mujhe office aana hai, lekin mumma mana kar deti hain." Ruhaani says in a complaining manner.

"Beta, ye kya baat hui? You know kyun mana karti hoon!" Ruhana looks at her daugther.

"Arey! But I was free last Saturday. I could have helped you." The girl makes a sad face.

"Ruhaani....maine kaha na tumhe...." Ruhana begins to speak but Vineet cuts her.

"Arey, usko kyun daant rahi ho tum? Bilkul tumhari tarah hai tumhari beti, wo wahi karegi na jo tum sikhaogi. Aur agli baar usey office aane se nahi rokogi tum." Vineet tends to scold Ruhana, at which Ruhaani chuckles.

"Ab tujhe mazaa aa raha hai, bhook nahi lag rahi?" Ruhana asks, gazing at her.

Ruhaani bobs her head cutely and they order the food. Amidst the light chitchat, Ruhana realises that her daughter has made a sweet bond with Vineet and she's loving to adore that. He's talking to her about her school and stuff and the girl is answering him honestly. Meanwhile, their food is served and then, Ruhaani looks at her mom and her new-found friend.

"Thank you, uncle! Aapki wajah se mujhe aaj treat mili. Otherwise, Mumma mujhe sirf, Saturday ko bahar le jaati hai." She says.

"It's good in a way, beta! Vo toh aaj tumhari Mumma khush hain, isliye maan gayi. Nai toh ye mujhe bhi mana kar deti hain." Vineet says, playing along.

"Aapko bhi! Par aap toh Mumma ke boss ho, wo aapko mana kaise kar sakti hain?" She asks, though she knows her mother has turned reserved, and all she thinks is for her.

"Main unki dost bhi hoon na, isliye main unhe mana kar sakti hoon," Ruhana says while eating her food.

"That is wrong. Aap aise kaise kar sakte ho? He's your boss! Unko mana nahi karna chahiye aapko." Ruhaani says, making a face.

"She has got a point!" Vineet says smilingly.

"Han, ab tum bhi iska hi saath doge, I know it." Ruhana says, making a face.

"Of course, she's my friend! Kyun, hai na, Ruhaani?" He asks.

"Yes, Yes! We're a team!" She chuckles and shares a fist bump.

Ruhana just smiles softly, adoring her daughter and Vineet. Meanwhile, Ruhaani looks at Vineet and reminds him of his words.

"Uncle, aap kis baare mein baat kar rahe they? Mujhe kya karna hoga?" She asks like a diligent student.

"Kuch khaas nahi, hamesha ki tarah apni mumma ko motivate karo. Jo deal inhone sign ki hai, uske liye inko London jaane ka mauka mil raha hain, lekin inhe jaana hi nahi hai." Vineet says softly.

"Arey, kyun? Mumma, you must go! It's a good opportunity." Ruhaani is surprised at the moment.

"Nahi, mujhe nahi jana hai. Aur Vineet, tum usko kya keh rahe ho? Tum kyun nahi jaate?" She asks annoyingly.

"Kyunki yeh tumhara kaam hai and you must go ahead," Vineet says softly.

Ruhaani agrees with Vineet and says something that touches Ruhana's heart and Vineet is equally surprised to see the girl's intelligence.

To be Continued.
