After successfully registering their marriage, the group travels to a temple. It's a temple spread over a wide area and houses all the deities. Ruhaani has never been here, and she chuckles at the magnificence of the temple. Even Ruhana is mesmerized, and that's when Vineet tells her that this is the temple he has always visited since his childhood. Ruhana is in awe when she finds that one side of the open area is beautifully decorated, and there's a mandap set up right in the center. There is a cameraman too. As she gears up to question Vineet, she finds Mrinal by her side.
"Main jaanti hoon tum dono ne aisa nahi socha tha, lekin maine socha tha. Kuch yaadein toh honi chahiye na iss shaadi ki," Mrinal explains.
"Main jaanti hoon, Maa. Aapne jo kiya hai achcha hi kiya hai. Aapne meri ek baat maan li, toh main aapki baat kaise taal sakti hoon, sab bahut achcha hai," Ruhana says, her tone soft.
"Mujhe yahi umeed thi. Chalo, mandir mein darshan karlo, fir shaadi ki rasm shuru karenge," Mrinal says, her tone affectionate.
"Jee Ma, aap bhi chaliye," she says, and looks around but only finds that Suhaani, Priyanka, and Anamika are busy checking the arrangements.
Mrinal directs her son and Ruhana into the temple while Ruhaani follows behind them. They finish their prayers and head towards the mandap, only to find Mrinal talking to the head priest, who will conduct their marriage. Ruhana and Vineet move ahead to take the blessings of the priest, and Ruhana calls her daughter to take the blessings of the old priest. The old man is mighty pleased to meet Ruhaani, and he affectionately praises her.
"Panditji, jaldi kijiye na, mujhe meri Mumma ki shaadi dekhni hai," Ruhaani intervenes innocently, causing the elders to laugh.
"Karvaate hain, aur sabse zaroori kaam hum aapse hi karvayenge," the old priest says, tapping her cheeks.
"Vo kya?" she asks, her tone innocent and curious.
"Vo hum abhi batayenge. Abhi aap apni Ma ko leke yahan baitho, aur Vineet beta, tum mere sath chalo," he says, and Vineet follows him to the mandap.
There's a puja to be performed by the groom while Priyanka sets up Ruhana's hair and the maang teeka. She might be dressed in a saree, but she needs to look dazzling and appealing as a bride. Ruhaani clicks a few pictures of her mother on her phone and also of Vineet, who's busy performing the puja. Of course, there's a photographer, but Ruhaani wants to capture all the moments in her camera.
Soon, the priest calls for Ruhana. Ruhaani holds her mother's hand, taking her towards the mandap. At the same time, Vineet stands at his place, extending his hand towards his better half. Ruhana smiles at his action, and as she forwards her hand towards him, he pulls his hand back and stretches it before their daughter. Ruhaani is surprised but keeps her hand on his, and he pulls her by his side. Even Ruhana is astonished at his move, but then she finds him smiling.
"Daughter before Wife, you know! Tumhara haath thamne se pehle mujhe tumhari-I mean hamari beti ko sambhalna padega na. Tum bhi toh yahi chahti ho, haina?" Vineet says, his tone soft yet playful.
Ruhana is spellbound by his gesture. She doesn't know what to say, so she keeps her hand on his outstretched hand, and they sit on the mandap. Ruhaani sits in the middle, and the ceremonies begin.
Vineet and Ruhana perform a small puja, chanting holy hymns and giving ghee to the sacred fire. Ruhaani looks around, absorbing the divinity of the hymns being recited and the warmth of the holy fire, which is the only witness of the sacred wedding happening around.
The girl is already excited for the wedding, and she watches as both her parents follow the priest's instructions. She's looking at everything so acutely and throwing questions at Mrinal, who's explaining everything to her in a low voice. Ruhana and Vineet smile, as they can hear them. Ruhana glances at Vineet, her eyes filled with gratitude and love for her husband.
This is just a ceremony, but it's also a beautiful memory of their life. Vineet signals Ruhana not to cry, as he can see happy tears brimming in her eyes. Ruhana feels a deep sense of gratitude for him; he's been an amazing partner so far, and moreover, he's been a great father to her daughter. He has actually filled the void of a dad in her life.
Meanwhile, the priest asks Ruhaani to tie the gathbandhan, and the girl is surprised. She doesn't know the actual meaning of it, and she looks at her mom to seek her permission. Ruhana cups her face.
"Panditji bilkul thik keh rahe hain. Tumhari wajah se hi hamara rishta bana hai, isliye ye gathbandhan toh tumhe hi karna chahiye," Ruhana explains.
"Bilkul, jab tum pyaar se isey baandhogi toh koi isey tod bhi nahi paayega, na khol paayega," Vineet says, holding the hem of the dupatta that's kept to cover his head.
"Fir toh main zaroor baandhungi. Meri Mumma aapke sath bahut khush hain, aur main bhi, toh main aisi gaanth lagaungi na, ki koi kabhi kuch keh hi nahi payega," Ruhaani replies, as she ties the knot tightly.
Ruhana is momentarily reminded of the taunts she had to face, but now, things are different. She's got a person to stand for her, to help her fight her demons, and to give a perfect upbringing to her daughter. Soon, it's time for the pheras. As they commence the pheras, Vineet holds Ruhana's hand securely in his, and as they circle the holy fire, Ruhaani chuckles every now and then. They walk around the sacred fire, making promises not just to each other but also to their daughter, promising to protect and cherish her always. This is something new to her, and she's enjoying it. On the other hand, Priyanka and Suhaani are filling her with some fun tricks to play with her parents.
With each step, Ruhana feels the bond between them strengthening, their love deepening. They finish the pheras, and now the priest asks Vineet to fill Ruhana's hairline with sindoor and tie the mangalsutra around her neck.
Anamika brings up the box, and Vineet takes a pinch of the sindoor and fills Ruhana's hairline while she closes her eyes, feeling the warmth that this moment brings to her. He then ties the mangalsutra, which Ruhaani has been holding. After this, the priest announces them as husband and wife, and they take the blessings of the priest and then turn to Mrinal. As they touch her feet, she blesses them, and at the same time, Suhaani passes a box to Vineet.
"Isme kya hai? Aap Mumma ko ek aur gift doge, Dadda?" Ruhaani asks.
"Nahi, ye toh aapke liye hain," he replies and lets her open the box.
"Ye! Isme toh hamare names ke initials hain. Ye mere liye hai?" Ruhaani asks, her curiosity piqued.
"Haan, ye meri beti ke liye," he says, tying the chain around her neck, just as he tied the mangalsutra around Ruhana's neck.
It's a platinum chain which has the initials R and V, R symbolises both Ruhaani and her mom's name. Also, he produces two platinum rings and slips one in Ruhana's hand, her ring has his initials while his ring has her name initials, Ruhana is overwhelmed with this new gesture, which has left her touched.
The ceremony comes to an end as they sit together while the others distribute sweets amongst the visitors and Mrinal offers sweets in the temple. As the trio has a moment to themselves, Ruhaani snuggles between them, resting her head on Ruhana's shoulder. She kisses her mom's cheek.
"Thanks, Mumma! This is the best gift you could ever get for me," Ruhaani chuckles as she kisses her dad's cheek, bringing him out of his daydream. He pulls the mother-daughter duo into his warm embrace, feeling a sense of contentment.
"I got my family! Isse achcha kya ho sakta hai, thanks to you two," Ruhaani says as she looks at both her parents.
"Haan, aur main vaada karta hoon, ab sirf khushiyan hongi," Vineet responds, kissing Ruhaani on her forehead, while Ruhana watches the two, a sense of relief washing over her.
She's glad to have Vineet, her daughter, Mrinal, and her friends around. They sit together, knowing that this is just the beginning of a beautiful life ahead.
To Be Continued.
