|Chapter #23: Conversing|

Vineet returns home early and Ruhaani is surprised to get a present from him. She excitedly unwraps the gift and she's surprised to find a tablet, too-a writing tablet. She looks at him and he blinks his eyes, telling her that it's for her. Along with it, there's an art kit, which includes sketch pencils, all types of colours and unlimited canvas. Ruhaani is awestruck.

"Ye sab mere liye?" She asks innocently.

"Of course. Tablet for your studies and art kit for your hobbies. Tumhari mumma ne mujhe bataya ki tumhe art bahut pasand hain, so, this is for you." He smiles at her warmly.

"Par itna saara!! Main nahi le sakti." Ruhaani denies.

Okay, she knows him well, but these gifts are so expensive. She's well aware that he's doing this to cheer her up. But that's okay. It's obvious for her to miss her mom, he doesn't need to spend money on her.

"Kyun nahi le sakti? Tumhari Mumma laati toh..." He argues but she interrupts him.

"Mumma mere liye laati hain, aur aap bhi mere liye laye hain, main jaanti hoon, lekin ye itna expensive hain. Aap mera mood cheer karne ke liye laaye na ye sab? Par I am fine. Mumma ko pata chalega toh vo gussa hongi." Ruhaani explains her point, while Vineet just smiles.

This girl is very self-respectful, just like her mother. Ruhana never lets him do anything for her, except when it's a genuine gift. Ruhaani is truly the cast shadow of her mom. She knows that it's a gift but she can't let anyone spend so much money on her except her mother. Also, the mother and daughter have been planning to get a tablet, which they couldn't because of their work schedule, and here it is now. She can't push herself to accept it. Had it been anyone else, they'd have taken it right away. His trance breaks with her voice.

"Sorry uncle, I know aap bahut pyar se leke aaye they, lekin ye ..." She begins to apologise, but Vineet holds her hand and makes her sit on the couch.

"Ruhaani, tum hi kehti ho na main tumhara dost hoon, toh doston se toh gifts le sakte hain na? Aur phir main ye art kit toh tumhe tumhare birthday pe gift karne wala tha, phir maine socha aaj hi kyun nahi? Please aise mana mat karo." He explains.

"Tumhari Ma tumhe kuch nahi kahegi, beta. Tablet se tumhe padhai mein help milegi aur art kit se tumhari skills define hongi. I promise, iske baad no gifts. Main jaanta hoon, tum apni Ma ki tarah swabhimani ho. Achchi baat hain...I am proud of you." Saying so, he pecks her forehead softly.

"Beta, jab koi pyar se tohfa deta hain na, toh le lena chahiye." Her mum's words echo in her ears.

Yeah, she said it back then when Ruhana's friend presented her with a gift, which she was hesitant to accept. Ruhana has always taught her daughter to be kind and earn things for herself. If you start accepting gifts, things won't work the way they should. That is, you should not let anyone spend money on you. You should work hard and earn money, and then treat yourself.

Ruhaani glances at her friend and then hugs him, taking him by surprise. He's touched at the moment, it's the first time that the girl has turned emotional and cosy, to give him a hug, that too, full of respect and love.

"Thank you, buddy! And I'm sorry. I know you got these for me and it has your feelings attached, so I will take them. Lekin agar Mumma ne kuch kaha toh aapko sambhalna padega, Unko lagega ki maine aapse kaha hai laane ke liye." Ruhaani complains.

At the same time, her phone rings, and her lips curve into a smile. It's her mom. She quickly picks up the phone and is glad to see her mother.

"Mumma, where are you going?" She asks, as she sees her mother walking on the road.

"I am walking to my apartment, baby. Tum kaisi ho? Mood toh kharab nahi hai na?" Ruhana asks from the other side.

"Nahi, Mumma, see buddy ...I mean Vineet uncle mere liye kya laaye?" She exclaims and shows her everything.

"Vineet, ye sab kya hain? Maine mana kiya tha na ki zaroorat se zyada pamper mat karo usko." Ruhana speaks as she sees him sitting beside her daughter.

"Tum apne kaam pe dhyan do, Ruu. Ruhaani ki chinta mat karo, main hoon uska khayal rakhne ke liye. Aur ye main apni marzi se laaya hoon uske liye. Tum usko kuch nahi bologi." He responds orderly, causing Ruhaani to giggle.

"Acha ji, mujhe aaye 4 din nahi hua tum dono ne team bana li. Very bad!" She makes a face.

"Arey, Mumma, I love you dher saara! Aur vaise bhi maine team nahi banai, Vineet uncle ne hi bola wo meri team mein hain, aur agar aap mujhe dantogi toh vo aapki class lenge." Ruhaani replies innocently.

"Tum dono bhi na, kuch bhi bolte ho. Anyway, dinner kiya tum logon ne?" She asks, while looking at her daughter.

"Noo, Dadi is cooking something. Bata hi nahi rahi hain."

"Achcha, aap, uncle se baat karo, main aati hoon." Ruhaani responds and gives the phone to Vineet and rushes into her room with all her belongings.

On the other hand, Ruhana fills Vineet with information about the project and he looks pleased.

"Vineet, Emily is happy with the designs. I am so glad. She wants me to design gowns with a touch of lehenga. Maine tumhe kuch designs mail kiye hain, please check karke batana." Ruhana says.

"Great to hear that! I knew you will manage, pata nahi kyunm tum mana karti rahi?"

"Vineet, meri sabse badi zimmedari tum nibha rahe ho, toh ye kaam karna mera farz hain. Thank you so much, Vineet. I don't know how to thank you." Ruhana expresses her feelings.

"This is the least, I could do for you, Ruhana. Waise, I must say ki tumhari beti tumhari parchhai hain. Tumne bahut achchi parvarish di hain usey, you must be proud of her." Vineet praises Ruhani and her mother is happy.

"Thanks, Vineet. Lekin fir bhi uski taraf se I'm sorry. She's not used to living alone, so, I assume thoda toh pareshan kia hoga usne." She replies sincerely.

Ruhana is talking when Vineet's Ma comes into the scene and says something that leaves the two touched, and Vineet is in awe of the girl he's brought home.

In his heart, his desire grows stronger after hearing his mother.

To Be Continued.
