After dinner was finished, the masters sat at the table and talked for a while, reminiscing a bit more on the adventures they used to have, what they used to do, and even what their future plans were. After a while, the restaurant was closed and Mr. Ping took to watching everyone talk while he cleaned the dishes and put everything away in preparation for the following day. Afterwards, he grabbed a small wooden box and headed over to the table where Po and his friends were laughing away.
"Remember that one time when Mantis got stuck in the flour jar?" Viper asked with a laugh. "And he hit Po on the head for calling him old?"
"Yep," Po replied with a chuckle. "I'm surprised I don't have a bump anymore."
"Ah, come on," Mantis replied with a grin. "I didn't hit you that hard."
"What are you talking about? You broke the chair in half."
"That's because you have a thick skull."
Mr. Ping popped over and placed a small wooden box on the table. Po quickly looked at it and placed a paw on top. "Dad," he warned. "No embarrassing baby photos, I said."
"But you look so cute!" Mr. Ping begged. "Especially in this picture when you first used the toilet."
As the goose began holding up a picture he had already taken out of the box, Po quickly snatched it and held it in his lap backwards to prevent anyone from looking at it. "No one needs to see th-DAD!" he exclaimed, watching Mr. Ping take out more pictures.
"Oh, look, that's your first customer served!" Mr. Ping said happily. "Mrs. Wu. Of course, she never came back to the restaurant because you accidentally spilled the soup on her, but you were only eight."
He kept placing photos on the table, resulting with Po quickly snatching them up in order to avoid his friends getting a good look at them.
"This picture I took your first day of actual restaurant duty," Mr. Ping remarked, putting down a photo of a teenage Po sweeping. "And this one's a from a few weeks after I found you behind my restaurant...ooh! I remember this one! You were making out with your-"
"DAD!!!!!" Po cried, snatching the next picture up. "Um..hey...can we...look at these later?! Like...when they're not around?!"
Mr. Ping looked at the masters who were looking over at the photos that Po was hoarding. "Oh of course," he said. "I just didn't want to interrupt all of you; you looked like you were having fun."
"I don't mind catching up later," Po promised. "I'm going to be here for a while."
"And we have all day tomorrow," Crane added.
"Oh! Well in that case...do you mind leaving so that Po and I can talk?"
"Of course not," Viper promised, getting up and moving towards the door with her friends in tow. "We'll see you later, Po."
The masters walked out of the restaurant, leaving Po and Mr. Ping alone to look at pictures.
"Thank you, dad," Po said gratefully.
"No problem, Po. I don't mean to embarrass you, but I just can't help but look at all all of your pictures. It's like reliving the moment all over again."
Po looked back at the picture he had taken from his dad and asked, "Seriously though, dad...how on earth did you get a picture of me kissing my Tigress poster? I would have burned that if I had known you had it."
"Your Tigress poster?!" came Mantis' voice from the screen covering the doorway.
"MANTIS!!!!!"
The bug started laughing, his voice fading as he hopped away in the event that Po tried to chase after him for eavesdropping. Mr. Ping rolled his eyes. "That little bug, I swear," he muttered. "He's been eavesdropping a lot lately. Though I assumed it was because he missed out-stealth-moding you."
Po smiled. "Yeah," he agreed. "I miss all of the old stuff we did too."
"How have you adjusted back there? Do you still have trouble with the stairs?"
"Going up them? Yes. Going down them? Not unless Monkey or Mantis trip me."
Mr. Ping laughed and walked back into the kitchen, looking through a few more of the photos.
"It feels weird to be back," Po commented, sitting down next to his dad. "And it's probably going to feel weird going back."
"I'll bet. But lets worry about you leaving me later. I want to look at photos together. Oh look! I do have the photo of you naked in my shop!"
Po rolled his eyes, but looked at the photo carefully with his dad. "I think the next one is when Uncle Yang stopped for a visit," he pointed out.
Mr. Ping smiled. "I remember that," he said, happily picking up the photo with a sigh. "You two used to try and out-eat the other. Of course, you always won, but he was a good sport about it. He used to get you ice cream after every win."
Po grinned. "Always chocolate," he added. "My favorite flavor."
Later, after the two finished talking and looking back at old memories of nearly thirty years, Po finally made his way back to the top of the Jade Palace. The air was still and quiet as cooled heat engulfed him on his journey inside. The master passed by the peach tree that rustled slightly as he headed towards the barracks. He suddenly heard," Po, there you are."
Po turned around and saw Master Shifu walking up to him, his hands folded neatly behind his back. "Hey, Shifu," he said politely. "What's up?"
"I hope you don't mind my intrusion on this subject," Shifu forewarned him. "But while you were talking with your father, Mantis and Viper told me about your dilemma with procuring a girlfriend."
"Oh they did tell you that?" Po asked in surprise. "I hope it didn't bother you at all."
"Quite the contrary, Master Po. I figured that was one of your side goals when you left here, and the fact that everyone where you currently are residing is taken, I can see how that might present a rather lonely problem."
"Yeah. Sorry, I didn't mean to have someone bug you on that, but...yeah. I guess I was kind of hoping to have a relationship with someone. Or at least hints of it."
"I was actually thinking...and this is entirely up to you; we don't have to do this...but I was brainstorming some ideas with Viper and Mantis and I thought it would be a good idea to actually find people in various villages around here who would be interested in traveling far to be with you."
"Um...like...one of those speed-datings?"
"Of course not; this is entirely different. Trust me, I know what speed-dating is like...."
Shifu shuddered, implying he had had as much rotten experience as Tigress recently had, and he continued by saying, "We'll ask the girls who match your general description to stay at the Jade Palace for sometime so that you can get to know them a bit better. And if they don't feel right for you or you for them, then we can send them home. And if nothing comes out of it...well, at least we've tried."
Po smiled. "I really appreciate you guys trying to help," he told the grandmaster. "But won't that take away time from hanging out with you guys?"
"I didn't say we were going to do it right this second. You can take a few weeks to readjust and then we can move forward. If it's something you're interested in."
Po frowned in concentration. "Do...I have to decide right now?" he asked. "Because it sounds awesome, but I think I'd need to sleep on it."
"Of course. I'm not going to force you into anything. Just think it over if you'd like and let me know whenever you've come to a decision. In the meantime, I think everyone's waiting for you in the barracks."
Po smiled. "Thank you, Master Shifu," he said.
"Don't thank me. Thank Viper and Mantis for bringing it to my attention."
"Sure. But thank you for coming up with the idea."
"Well in that case, you're welcome."
Po then darted back over to the barracks and walked inside where he was greeted by his friends.
"Hey, buddy!" Mantis called over. "Wanna' play Mahjong?"
"Sure," Po told him. He looked at the group of four that sat on the floor. "Hey, where's Tigress?" he asked in surprise.
"Meditating in her room. Again," Crane pointed out. He slowly scooched over to Viper, but Po grabbed his wing and pulled him back over to Monkey, eliciting snickers from both the primate and Mantis.
Po knocked on Tigress door. "Tigress?" he asked. When no one answered, he quietly pushed the door open, revealing the master sitting on her bed in a meditating position. Her eyes opened when she heard him.
"Yes?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Don't you want to play mahjong with everyone?"
"I would, but I have to meditate. I need all the concentration I can get."
"Are you sure? Not even just this one time?"
"Maybe tomorrow, alright?"
"Do you promise tomorrow?"
"I said maybe."
"I'll take it."
He went to duck out of her room to leave her in peace, only to be asked, "Did Master Shifu talk to you yet?"
Po froze. "About the...dating thing?" he asked.
"Yes..."
"Yeah, but...I haven't made up my mind yet."
"As long as you weigh the pros and cons, you should be fine."
Viper snickered, drawing Po back out of the master's room and into the hallway. "Tigress may have a point," she told Po. "But just do what you think is the good choice, okay? No pressure."
"No pressure?!" Monkey exclaimed. "A bunch of girls running around the Jade Palace, trying to compete for my attention, spending most of their time with me...." He thought for a second. "Actually, that sounds great! Where can I sign up?"
Crane whacked him on the head. "You're such a flirt," he grumbled.
"Says the guy stalking Viper every five seconds."
"Will you drop that?!"
"Hey, that's enough!" Viper snapped at the two. "I thought we agreed to sit down and play Mahjong?"
"Yeah, lets go!" Mantis exclaimed. "I'm ready to kick your butts!"
"Crane lost three rounds," Monkey told Po. "So you're standing in his spot."
"Sweet!" Po exclaimed, sitting down, ready to take on the challengers of the game.
Hey, guys. Sorry this has been taking forever to update. I'm getting swamped with homework and I've been focusing on trying to revise and publish a real-life book. (Which probably won't happen for a few years, but not the point). I may get one last chapter in before Sunday, but if not...sorry I didn't update this as much. I love this book, though....
