Breathe

Po had full intentions of sleeping in the next day and then figuring out where on earth to hide his ring in case the thief came back. But before the sun could even rise and the gong could go off, he found himself being gently shaken awake by Song.

"Sorry to wake you," she apologized. "But I couldn't really sleep, so I thought maybe this would be a good time to see the sunrise?"

Po sat up tiredly and rubbed his eyes for a moment before Song's words finally clicked in his brain. "Oh. Oh right! Yeah. Yeah we can do that," he said with a faint smile as he got out of bed. "I don't suppose it's early enough to make tea?"

"Already thought of that," Song promised, and she took him by the paw and led him out of the barracks and towards the Wu Dan mountains.

Po was still pretty tired, so he just sleepily followed Song across the grounds and eventually up the steep path which led to the Wu Dan mountains. They had to stop halfway since Po needed a moment to catch his breath and keep trying to wake himself up, but soon they had reached the top where Song had already placed some hot tea on a warmer and laid out some cups on a small blanket over the grass. Po was more than happy to sit down and start drinking the tea. Even if it didn't wake him up, it could at the very least get his brain to focus. Song poured some tea for herself and just stared past the grass to where the sun was just starting to peek over the mountain. a deep red was beginning to start to engulf the sky along with some orange and a faint splash of pink.

"You're right," she noted. "The view up here is great."

Po smiled and suppressed a yawn that came up as he drank some more of his tea and just watched the sunrise.

For those who have perhaps never seen the sun's full arrival over the horizon and over the world it warms up daily, the idea of watching a sunrise in full swing may sound absolutely slow and boring. At the very least, let's keep it lively with some small conversations here and there. However, one would be very surprised to find just how long one can sit and stare at the sky as it slowly changes colors. The world is, for a brief moment, a bright night before the sun even makes its debut, splashing the sky in a beautiful blue shade with some little splashes of light just at the horizon line. Then suddenly the blue turns a dark shade as the shadow of the sun crosses the line and suddenly the sky slowly becomes filled with warm colors: red, some orange, a little pink. Perhaps even some yellow. Each one forming different patterns as each day is different. Sometimes the colors are hidden by clouds in the sky and simply reflect purple or gray, perhaps even a light blue. Perhaps there are just a few clouds which catch some of the rays and splash bright colors even farther across the horizon line. Sometimes the light is dispersed, making spotlights on every cloud that comes by, creating an awesome aura in the sky. But today there weren't any clouds. And the full light of the sun threw its light all over the trees, making beams of light shine brilliantly behind everything it touched. It seems much grander in pictures, it is true, but there is something about watching the gradual change in color that can send a warm calm through one's being. For those more color inclined, this would be a beautiful opportunity to take in ideas for painting, or for clothes, or to wonder how one's wardrobe could be just as radiant as the sight before them. But in the case of Song and Po, it was just a relaxing calm. For the moment, it was just them against the world. For the moment, the air was cool, but overtaken by the calming sight to behold. For the moment, it was a chance truly indeed to just step away from the chaos that had been happening to the pair over the past few days. For the moment, they could just breathe.
