Chapter 1- Running

Running. There's nothing like it. I should know, I've been doing it my whole life.

Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Adam 'Skyward' Dahlberg the second, the first being my grandfather. Well, my biological grandfather, I'm adopted. Kind of...well, it's complicated. I AM adopted, but I was abandoned by my adopted parents, since they couldn't be taking care of me AND running from the law at the same time.

Alright, let me elaborate PROPERLY. I was abandoned by my birth mother because she couldn't take care of me and my birth father ran off as soon as he knew I existed, and she left me at the doorstep of an orphanage where after three or four years spent in there learning random shit I was adopted by said adopted parents, who were apparently drug dealers on the run from the law and after four years with them they abandoned me at a random bus stop where I've been jumping from town to town swiping food and stealing clothes and basic human necessities for, what...ten? Eleven years now? I lost count.

Anyway, enough about my back story, where I am now. I'm in a town called Chukiche (Choo-kee-chee) and I AM STARVING!

I rubbed my belly as I searched for a nearby supermarket or food stall or something, my eyes finally landing on a restaurant. Perfect.

I went round the back and searched for the kitchen window, following my nose and listening out for clangs of metal tongs or shouts of a french chef. I finally found it, hauling myself up on a bin and jumping to the ledge.

I pushed open the window and crawled inside, careful not to make a sound as I did. The cooks were on lunch break, so I had another advantage.

The aromas of the kitchen were so DAMN AMAZING! They made my stomach growl angrily with just one whiff.

I bent down in front of the lower cabinet and pulled out two apples and a loaf of bread, snatching a knife from the counter on my way out. I climbed out of the window and jumped from the ledge to the ground, landing perfectly on my feet. 10/10. (Tenoutaten! No!? NO one gets the reference?!? Ok then...) I snatched up my backpack and shoved the food inside, keeping an apple in my hand and munching at it. I savoured the sour, tangy flavour and smiled at the satisfying feeling of actually having food in my stomach.

I heard footsteps and horrid laughter coming from round the corner and I hid behind a dumpster, just in case it was a gang of thieves or rapists or something like that. (XD WTF Sky?!)

Six guys, at least all over twenty, came round the corner and started heading down the alleyway.

Shit.

I bent down more so they wouldn't see me, peering through the middle of where two bins met. They all looked like thugs, members of a bigger group, basically gangsters. Hopefully they don't see me. I crept out from behind the bins, making sure they didn't see me, and started to walk away from the alleyway.

"Hey! Stop!" I heard a harsh, rough voice call from behind me. One of the thugs had spotted me, and had obviously told the others. Not thinking, I turned on my heel and ran, not caring about the people chasing after me. I quickly turned the corner and pushed my way through the large crowd of people. Chukiche is a very busy town, more like a city to be honest. I glanced behind me to see that the people had stopped following me, so I turned another corner into another alleyway, slamming right into someone. I tripped over my feet and fell on my butt on the cold, cobble ground.

"S-Sorry I..." I heard a, somewhat beautiful voice start, but trail off, as if they were scared or amazed. I looked up slowly, coming face to face with a boy, around the same age as me.

He had longish brown hair and beautiful crimson eyes, one of which was hidden by his hair. His clothes were pretty basic, a dark grey hoodie and blue jeans with black and purple shoes, but slung around his pale, slender neck were a pair of green and black headphones. He was practically the image of heaven. Yeah, I'm gay, deal with it haters.

"Ty!" I heard another voice come from behind him, soon followed by a rather furry character in a black suit and red tie. That name is amazing. Ty...absolutely beautiful. I snapped myself out of my thoughts and managed to pop back to the real world, but not until i was surrounded by three other boys.

One had a sort of astronaut getup with a helmet and everything, another was wearing a basic red and black checkered hoodie and blue jeans with red and white shoes and had brown hair and brown eyes, and the third was wearing something similar to the one before but the hoodie was a shirt and it was red and grey and he had glasses as well over big blue eyes and brown hair.

"Who's your new friend Ty?" The one in the spacesuit asked, helping the boy, Ty, up off the ground, also trying to grab his attention as his eyes seemed to be glued to...me?

He shook his head and looked around at his friends, and then his eyes fell back on me. "I'm so sorry! I wasn't looking where i was going! God i'm so dumb....m-my name's Ty, as you could probably tell, what's yours?" He exclaimed, picking me up off the ground and shaking my hand eagerly, as if was someone famous and he was one of my fans or something.

"I...I..." I haven't talked to anyone in years, i was actually surprised i hadn't lost my voice yet. "M-My name's Adam...b-but you can call m-me Sky" I finally stammered nervously. "Sky..." He repeated my name and went into another trance, still staring at me.

"Uh...TY!" The furry guy screamed in Ty's ear, making him yelp and punch his shoulder angrily. "Don't Do That!" He cried, rubbing his ear. "You were in another trance biggums he had to. Oh shit, we haven't introduced ourselves yet!" The one in the checkered hoodie exclaimed, no not the one with the glasses.

"Ma name's Mitch, this is Jason and Tyler, and this is ma biggums Jerome!" He said, gesturing to the other two and kissing the furry one, Jerome, lovingly on the cheek. "Dude! We were gonna keep that a secret" Jerome whisper-shouted, glancing around at his friends. "It's Ok fluffy, we're cool with it" The one in the spacesuit, Jason, said throwing his arm round his shoulder.

"MEROME 4 DAYZ!!!" Tyler screamed suddenly, throwing his arms in the air. Everybody started laughing, including me, just because the kid's voice was hilarious.

"HEY! YOU THERE!" I heard the familiarly harsh voice call from behind me, so i turned around and was met by a fist to my face. I started to fall to the ground, but was caught by a pair of strong arms. I looked to see that Mitch had caught me.

Jerome, Jason and Tyler were surrounding us both, looking me over and asking if i was Ok, but Ty on the other hand was chewing out the guy for punching me. He's going to get himself hurt, or worse! I have to help him. My mind determined, my body pushing Mitch away and running in front of Ty protectively.

"S-Sky? What are you doing?" Ty asked quietly, just above a whisper. "Well LOOKY here fellas! The trespasser is trying to protect his little boyfriend!" The leader of the pack teased, pushing me aside, and making me fall onto a pile of full bin bags, and standing over Ty menacingly. "I told you, Leave Him Alone!" Ty shouted up at the towering figure, punching him in the gut and making him stumble back in pain, also making him fall onto his back. I have to admit, the kid had strength.

The others recoiled in fear of Ty, his friends stepping forward menacingly, as if to say "You mess with one of us, you mess with all of us," It was inspiring really.

The gang ran away, leaving the leader lying on the ground helpless. He stood up and ran, leaving us six behind. Ty immediately ran to my side and began to look me over. "Are you Ok? How bad did he hurt you? Where does it hurt? Why did he do that?" Ty started questioning me, starting to sound like a worried mother.

"Ty, you sound like my mom" Jerome said, a smile appearing on his furry face. "Shut up Fluffy!" Ty replied with a small giggle. I smiled weakly at him and stood up, bringing him up with me.

"I'm fine, really. I...uh...gotta go.." I said, picking up my bag and beginning to walk off. I felt a hand catch my shoulder gently, so i turned my head to look at whoever did that. Ty. "I'll see you round then?" He asked, a small hint of disappointment hidden in his voice. "Uh...sure. I'll see you round," I repeated, hating myself for lying.

I liked jumping from town to town, i wasn't going to just stay in one town for the sake of it.

I smiled and waved goodbye, walking off. I didn't get to leave though, because as soon as i turned the corner i was met with a fist to my face, knocking me out.
