Seeing Kara Again
A couple days after Kevin and Robin got acquainted with the extended Bat-Family, Barbara found a way to contact Kevin's ex-girlfriend Kara Danvers. The two of them were in the living room as Barbara found the contact phone number of Kara. By now, Kevin was starting to see Barbara as a big sister. "You okay Kevin?" Barbara asked once she dialed the number. "Yeah... just very nervous," admitted Kevin, "this is literally going to be the first time I have ever spoken to Kara in 4 years... What if she hates me?" Barbara shook her head and said, "no... I've known Kara for years since I was Batgirl. Saying goodbye to you was literally the hardest thing for Kara. I'd say more, but wouldn't it be better to find out for yourself?" Kevin chuckled, "yeah, it would." Barbara then called Kara. 30 seconds later, Kara Danvers picked up and said, "hello?"
"Hey Kara," said Barbara. "Hey Babs! How are things going with you and Dick?" Kara asked on the phone. "Pretty decent. Guess what handsome man is standing next to me," teased Barbara. Kevin blushed at Barbara's comments. "Johnny Depp?" Kara jokingly asked. "Actually no," said Barbara, "I'm actually standing next to your first boyfriend. Well, not standing, but you get the idea." Kara asked in surprise, "Kevin Beaumont???" Barbara nodded and replied, "that's him. What were the odds I would find him in Gotham?" Kara chuckled in reply, "yeah, what were the odds of that? Can I talk to him?" Barbara then gave Kevin her cell phone and said, "that's your cue." Kevin breathed in and out and then he nervously said, "hey Kara..." Barbara gave him an encouraging thumbs up. "Hey Kevin..." Kara said on the phone, "I heard that you graduated from UW. Congratulations."
"Yeah, I heard that you graduated from Metropolis University too. Congratulations to you as well Kara. It's good to hear your voice," said Kevin as he smiled a little. "It's good to hear you too Kev. I really missed you..." Kara said. "I missed you too Kara," said Kevin. "So what's a guy like you doing in Gotham City?" Kara asked. "You promise not to tell anyone?" Kevin asked. "Oh Kevin, you should know that the best promises are the ones you don't intend to keep," teased Kara, "but don't worry, I won't tell anyone. This secret will be safe between you, me, and Barbara." Kevin breathed in and said, "okay... the main reason I came to Gotham is because I wanted to meet my biological father. My biological father is Bruce Wayne." Kara then said, "wait your father is Bruce Wayne, the billionaire playboy CEO of Wayne Enterprises?? No way!" Kevin chuckled in response, "way. honestly Kara, it would make sense that I'm Bruce Wayne's son." Kara giggled, "it actually does. Now I know where you got your good looks from. Did you get to meet your father?" Kevin nodded and replied, "I have. He's actually taking this rather well. On Friday, he's going to take me and my new friend Robin Warner to a basketball game. I guess you could say it's father-son bonding."
"I'm glad you were able to find your family, Kev." Kara said, "I know how hard it was for you, struggling to celebrate Father's day without a father to look up to..." Kevin nodded and said, "yeah. Remember when we watched that one episode of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air known as Papa's Got a Brand New Excuse?" He sighed heavily. "Yeah, I remember watching that," replied Kara, "I remember how you really related to Will in that episode. You broke down crying at the end... Kevin, there's a lot I want to tell you that I wish I could've told you when we were together. I want to tell you now if you're willing to give me that chance..." Kevin could tell that Kara sounded hesitant. "Of course I would," said Kevin, "if you want to come over to Wayne Manor, I'm cool with that. I hear that Metropolis isn't that far from Gotham. I'll make cookies." Little did he know was that Robin walked in and sat next to Barbara, listening to Kevin's phone conversation. The toon blushed a little at Barbara. "That would be great," said Kara, "I'll see you tomorrow Kevin. And I'm going to tell you the whole truth, warts and all." Kevin smiled a little and said, "I'm looking forward to seeing you. Goodbye Kara..."
"Bye Kev..." Kara replied as she then hung up. Barbara gave an encouraging thumbs up with a smirk and said, "wasn't that hard to talk to her now was it?" Kevin shrugged and replied, "guess not. Either way, looks like Wayne Manor has another guest on the way." The next day, Kevin was in the kitchen alongside Bruce, Robin, and Alfred, making peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. Kevin then explained to Bruce and Alfred who Kara was and how long he dated her and why they mutually broke up on good terms. Bruce was actually shocked to know that his own son was romantically involved with a superhero! Bruce looked at Alfred and asked in a whispering manner, "should I tell him who she is?" Alfred shook his head and replied in whisper, "perhaps it would be better if the boy found out himself. Besides, Miss Gordon didn't say anything possibly out of respect for Miss Danvers." Bruce nodded, understanding. Soon Kevin was finished making the peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, with an aroma that was fresh out of the oven. "The cookies smell delicious Kevin," complimented Robin as he sniffed the intoxicating smell. "Thanks Robin," said Kevin, "if anything, these cookies will go great with a glass of milk." Suddenly, Kevin could hear Kara softly say, "Kevin?" The four gentlemen turned around and saw Kara there. Kevin looked at Kara and was surprised to see her wearing the Supergirl suit. "You think we should go?" Robin asked. "Yeah," said Bruce as he and Alfred left the kitchen. Robin grabbed a cookie and a glass of milk, leaving the kitchen. He tipped his hat to Kara as he left. Kara wandered over to Kevin and said, "you look good Kev... It's nice to see you." Kevin's eyes widened in shock as he asked, "Kara... You're Supergirl???"
"Yeah, pretty much," confirmed Kara, "I've wanted to tell you since we started dating, but I wasn't sure how to..." Kevin was flabbergasted and at a loss for words. "Wait, so you're related to Superman?" Kevin asked, regaining his ability to speak. "Well yeah, he's my cousin," replied Kara, "but back when I was growing up on Krypton, I knew him as Kal El. I know you have a lot of questions, Kevin. And I will explain everything." Kevin and Kara then went into the living room with the cookies, and Kara explained her entire backstory to Kevin, including the destruction of her home planet Krypton. She poured her entire heart out to Kevin, not leaving a single detail out. "I was unsure if I would be able to balance my relationship with you and my life as Supergirl at the same time," said Kara as she looked down. Kevin held Kara's hand and said, "Kara... I never knew that you had to endure such tragedy. I'm so sorry to know that you and your cousin are practically the last of your people..." Kara gave a weak smile and said, "that's what I always liked about you Kevin. You were always so compassionate and kind. And I'm glad you're not angry that I'm an alien." Kevin silently nodded. "So, my ex-girlfriend is a superhero and is the cousin of Superman. Never thought I'd ever say that," said Kevin, taking all of this in. "You're actually accepting this a lot more calmly than I thought," said Kara. "We're living in strange times, Kara. Besides, I made friends with a toon. At this point, nothing seems out of the realm of possibilities," chuckled Kevin. "No kidding," said Kara, "I mean, you just made friends with a toon. He seems like a nice guy. On a different subject matter, have you ever found another special someone?" A part of Kara didn't want Kevin to move on but another part of her did. "Well, while I was attending U-Dub, as us Seattleites casually call it, I may have gone on a few dates. I think it was four," said Kevin, "one of them was a Catholic girl I think. But I usually only took them on one date. Usually for coffee or whatever movie was playing. I never could find anyone special. You still hold a special place in my heart, Kara. Others could try, but I couldn't love anyone else after loving you..." Kara looked at him, tears welding in her eyes. "You deserve better than me Kevin," she said, her head lowering down. Kevin hugged her and said, "you're just right for me Kara. If I'd known then, I would have gone to Metropolis University to be with you. Don't ever think there's someone better than you. The girls I met in college could never love me like you did..." Kara gently hugged Kevin back, like she was going to lose him just as she lost Krypton. "I love you Kevin Beaumont. To the stars and back," she softly said. Kevin smiled, excited on the inside as he calmly said, "I love you too Kara Danvers. With all my spirit and strength. You have and always will be my world." He gently stroked her lovely blonde hair. There was so much romantic tension between the two, that Kara let her emotions get the better of her as she then kissed Kevin on the lips. Kevin was thrown off guard by the kiss, but then he remembered how much he liked kissing her, and didn't protest. Once Kara finished, she said, "I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me."
"You don't see me complaining," said Kevin, "Kara... I want to make this work between us again. But with no secrets... Would you give it a shot? You and me?" Kara held Kevin's hand and asked, "you'd want to be my boyfriend again?" Kevin smiled and nodded, saying, "without a second thought, I would gladly accept the opportunity to be your boyfriend once more." Kara smiled and said, "let's make it work then. You and me, Kevin. A new romantic relationship together." The two reconciled lovers then kissed each other on the lips, happy to be together once more. Robin and Bruce were watching, happy to see the new lovebirds together again.
